In a world without the Mane 6, Celestia would still be aware of NMM’s return because of the prophecy (we know she knew, see end of season 1 episode 2). She would defeat Luna herself when she returns, but just barely. This means a slight variation in the conditions of her fight could tip the scales in NMM’s favor. Therefore a butterfly effect (as described by Zecora) could lead to some timelines where NMM wins, and some where she loses and the next big threat either takes over or is barely defeated by Celestia (which is also sensitive to past changes).

You are aware that Starlight Glimmer is going to be as much featured in future seasons as Discord (at best) and not really as official Mane7th, right?
They would never change the intro not to mention that there's still only 6 thrones. She's now just a character that give Twilight some arc/purpose as a teacher. Just like Discord gives Fluttershy a significant role reforming him.

Why would you ever want to go to Equestria? There are dangerous magical creatures, no WiFi, no Cell Phone reception, and no fast food joints.
People are like, "Yeah I'd drag my balls through a mile of broken glass to even set foot in Equestria"
Why? For what purpose would you even want to? Personally I don't want to wait at some over-priced shit-tier hay serving restaurant for them to import hamburgers and all the fixins over from the real world and it'd be like 2 hours before I even get a decent meal.
