The S5 ending should be dismissed as a writer's tool, and nothing more. If we treat each alternate universe as "canon", then it absolutely destroys any means of measuring comparative power between specific entities like Discord, Nightmare Moon, Tirek, etc. It gets messy really quickly, and really can't be accurately understood.

G1 is definitely the next best gen, even if it is a fairly distant second. It was good for the time it was created and definitely had a lot of good ideas going for it, even if they weren't executed all that well. I also found myself genuinely liking a handful of the featured ponies and was hoping some of them would find their way into FiM in some shape or form. What it really had going for it was the villains as they actually do find their way back into the current continuity.

Anyway tl;dr it helped pave the way for the pone we enjoy today, take it for what it is.

I think if more people watched G1, G4 could be critiqued better

She's a horse, so it's more likely that I would ride her into battle. Whether or not I would do that I guess depends on a lot of things. I suppose if I had to ride something into battle, I would prefer the magical flying horse over the normal horse. However, the whole situation seems not very desirable.
