It's one of the things keeping me on this season actually.

Unlike other seasons, Spike is actually being a character and not just being shat on.
Spike has been having some great interactions lately, and seeing how he's being paired up with Glimmer as well, whose chemistry also works, I actually have high hopes for the little guy.

I thought the episode should have been a two parter, 'cus it felt good up until the end. All the characters reacted the way they should have until the EXTREME change of heart near the end. If it had had a second episode we could used it to make a more believable transition into acceptance from Shinning and Cadence. Besides that I thought this was one of the best episodes, plus I want an HD still of all the larva crawling on Chrysalis.

Why? Zecora was a pretty similar case and Ponyville overcame that. Luna too. Twilight probably would have trusted Spike and as a Princess and sister to the captain of the Guard, her word would mean a lot.

Changelings aren't particularly strong either, so if push came to shove it'd have been easy to shut him down

Neither was Thorax. I said it was a similar case, not the same. The Ponies believed them to be evil (less so for Luna) and that's where the point lies really. It's those kinds of experiences that can lead you to be a bit more open minded. There's also this >>28207186, it just felt odd to me he went to the guards rather than to his close friend Twilight who holds power of her own and potentially could have cleared things up right there.
When Spike did eventually tell Twilight, she trusted him. Couldn't he have done it earlier?
