Currently going through Gundam. At the recommendation of a friend, I had intended for ZZ to be the only UC series I skipped out on.

I'm almost done with Zeta, and I'm wondering if I should still heed his words and move straight to CCA and Unicorn, or take the piss and go through ZZ. The prospect of slogging through another 50 episode show is kind of disheartening, though.

It does get better (the MS fights in Africa and the Purus are cool, a lot of us have crushes on Haman, and there's some nice space battles in the second half) but if the overall tone and art style of the show has not grown on you at all by now, then it may just not be the Gundam series for you. Watch CCA instead if you really want to continue the UC storyline. The only Gundam thing that really references back to ZZ is Unicorn, so there's no real need to suffer through it if you don't like it, even if you are otherwise a huge Gundam fan.

Personally, I loved ZZ except for that first episode that seemed like an infomercial and the characters Beecha and Mondo who actively try to get their friends killed and suffer no comeuppance

I'm watching ZZ too, and it's just boring and not engaging at all. I liked Zeta and 0079 (the former made no sense to me most of the time, but is was still really interesting), and I practically did a marathon of both since I liked them so much, but I'm only getting through an episode a week of ZZ. It's just not interesting at all. I'm on episode 13 (basically 12, since that bizarre first episode doesn't really count), so that might be why.
