Friendly reminder to not annoy the Hibiki too much.

The results of constant Hibiki bothering may be entertaining and even hilarious but, like playing with fire, you will eventually get it which can be pretty awesome in it's own right. It's a win-win deal really

Glorious Break - Lyrics:

今、天に問い掛ける願い
もうひとふりの力を下さい...
背負う覚悟は胸に在るか
力とは何か
Reason why I can fight...!

ぬくもりより孤独が相応しい
そう言い聞かせ 心を殺しては
偽りの「強さ」に縋つていた

涙を 重ねる度 証明される現実は
どこまでも残酷な結末 -termination-

(Desperate)

(Glorious Break)
衝動抱いて 輝き放とう

「正義」を纏いながら 傷つけ、罪を数え
底無き深淵で悪夢に侵され続けていた

信じて、裏切られて...想い出は血塗られて
逆流した切望が牙を立てる

(Misery) いつからだろう 理由さえ燃え尽きた
全てを壊すことで救われるものなどない だから...

どうか示してほしい
切なる歌は誰かに届いているのか
慟哭に震える魂 無力さ思い知って

凛と、貫く勇気を (Glorious Break)

(Glorious Break)
暁(あけ)の空へ 羽撃くだけ
それが Reason why I can fight...!

That's incorrect though. If you've never had any sort of feelings for a fictional character, you're more likely to be mentally unstable than those who have. An emotional response is a response all the same, being able to rationalize between what's real and what's fantasy is the real indicator.

There's no need to keep the thread constantly moving and bumped if there's nothing worthwhile to talk about, that's what /a/ is for.
Hell, Nana's new album was released today and it's been largely buried under "I WANNA FUG/MARRY/HOLD HAND WITH THIS GEAR" posts. This thread actually started out pretty well too.

While I don't like how you're going about it, I do agree with you that these threads are being taken up by far too much blogging, waifu posting, and especially avatarfagging as well. And it's only getting worse. We are burning through threads now almost faster than when the series was airing. It is starting to get tiring with the endless waifu posting. There's something wrong when we can't go more than 4 hours without someone crying over Kanade out of nowhere. Though I will accept that I am in the minority with my views and I highly doubt these threads are going to change no matter how many arguments are made against them, so there's not much point in antagonizing an entire thread against me repeatedly. My only hope is when the zesshoushinais drop these threads will return to some semblance of what they were when the show was airing.

I think its just the result of not having any topics to talk about.

Once we get a topic going, the waifufagging tend to stop while the discussion of the topic goes on.
>>
>>13484096
If there's nothing to talk about then we don't need to be going through threads almost daily. I feel like part of the reason we never discuss anymore is because everyone is too busy waifu posting and blogging so no one bothers to bring up topics, or when they do it just turns into the regular arguments like GX sucks or topdad needed to burn. And as is now we hit the image limit incredibly early when posting because everyone just avatarfags about off topic things or reposts the exact same images.

I always hate it when people use this argument. If you're too scared to make a post starting your own discussions, then you shouldn't be on 4chan at all. Plenty of discussion is had, and these threads aren't going to die off any time soon. Everyone has equal power to change the direction of discussion, don't be afraid to do it.

Either way it's not like it's a common occurrence in these threads.

Since I guess we're just bitching about everything tonight I might as well join in, the Kanadefag really needs to tone it down with shoehorning her into every conversation.
>>
>>13484113
I've never been scared of starting discussion. The problem lies in when I see multiple posts trying to start discussions that get lost or ignored in favour of waifu/blogging.

>>13484135
There are so many things wrong in this statement. No one needs to be identified on 4chan. And if they do they should just use a trip. And besides pastebin anon avatarfags even when they're not posting about the pastebin, when there is absolutely no need for them to be recognized as the pastebin anon with their comment.
>>
>>13484145
>And if they do they should just use a trip.
This. That's the exact reason the tripcode function exists.
>b-but I'm too good to tripfag
But avatarfagging and choking the image limit with the same images every thread is okay?
Not to mention the added bonuses of tripping when you actually make contributions. People (including yourself) can much more easily find you posts in the archive to check for updates and the like. And people who don't care can ignore or filter you. The only reason to avatarfag rather than trip is for le epic butthurtz.
>>
>>13484145
>multiple posts trying to start discussions that get lost or ignored
People didn't want to talk about those things then. The plot has been discussed to death and most people are just waiting for the zesshoushinais at this point. So obviously the discussion turns to the characters.
>>
>>13483678
Lossless when?
>>
>>13484152
That just feeds back into my point though. If we have nothing of value to discuss then we don't have to spend entire threads crying over how we won't hold any of the gears for the millionth time. Or when we do get actual discussion going it very often gets derailed right into waifu posting at some point. As >>13484143 put it, a lot of anons keep shoehorning waifu posting right into the discussion and it keeps going from there.
>>
>>13484159
What's the point of this, though?
So there's nothing to discuss, but you're mad all that people are left with are waifu posting. Your point is that we should just stop with the threads? You can simply leave until there's something new.
>>
>>13484159
If you don't like something, report it. Policing threads does not make them better, it makes them worse, so stop.
>>
>>13484163
No the threads can stay. /m/ is a slow enough board the general will stay up with slower posting. What I'm getting at is we don't need to be going through threads so quickly. Besides everyone taking a break from the same repeated items a bit would probably help everything overall since we might be able to come up with newer discussions that people will actually be interested in discussing.
>>
>>13484168
You're trying to have people post slower, just so we can cut out stuff you don't like. Why don't you take a break, and come in when you think it's good?
>>
>>13484174
Because on the odd chance someone attempts to start a decent discussion between the endless blogging and waifu posting I would like to be there to actually discuss with them. The discussion in these threads are quite enjoyable when they actually occur. Enough that I'm willing to sift through all the shit to get to them. And as I already mentioned before this is the first and probably last time I will be bringing this up, as it makes no sense to make threads worse by constantly antagonizing everyone against me with arguments, as I get the sense this thread is unwilling to improve on what they're doing. And as such that is what little I can do to try and not worsen the thread's quality.
>>
>>13484180
Your mistake in this argument is claiming that slowing the threads down because you want them to be slower for whatever reason is somehow a guaranteed improvement.
>>
>>13484168
There are quite a few posters here. The speed of the thread isn't something you can control. It just happens.
>>
>>13484181
Removing blogging and pointless waifuposting IS an improvement. The fact that you don't see this only goes to show how far gone you are. The people you're arguing against aren't the ones who need to take a break from /sgg/, you are. You've lost all sense of perspective.
>>
>>13484181
Yes it will be an improvement. The removal of blogshit and repetitive waifuing, which would result in a much slower thread, would probably be a great improvement. As the thread will actually be about discussing Symphogear.
>>
>>13484182
This, these threads usually have like 70 unique IPs by the time they roll over to the next thread. That's about the same as the SRW general right now, that's pretty fast for /m/.
>>
>>13484183

>removing
>removal
Who is going to remove it? You don't have the ability to do so. Mods/Janitors can, so report what you don't like. At the end of the day, threads will move in the way that the people posting decides. If a Symphogear thread is 100% waifu faggotry, then it's the will of the people posting in it. If it's 50/50 waifu faggotry and real discussion, then that's what the people in the thread at that time want to post. You need to take a break and step back to consider the fact that you're not in charge of these threads, or the people posting in them. If someone wants to talk about fucking Platypus, and then everyone wants to talk about fucking platypus, you have no right to tell people to stop talking about platypus, even if a platypus killed your entire family and fucked your dog. You report it, you hide it, and you close the thread.

It's exactly what you're doing now. Repeating an argument that happens in every general style thread, on every board that plays host to them. It's the exact same thing, every single time.

>Also I don't think you know how reporting works. You don't report what you don't like. That's the fastest way to get a warning or ban from improper reporting.

For all you anons that can't into Japanese:

Glorious Break

Now, I raise a prayer to the heavens
And wish for one last spurt of strength...
The resolve to bear this burden is in my chest
What is strength?
The reason why I can fight...!

Loneliness suits me more than warmth
While saying that I killed my heart
And clung to a fake "power"

As tears pile up, the truth is revealed
No matter where I go there's only a cruel conclusion -termination-

(Desperate) This prayer has been twisted by my defiance
In searching for my answer, like I was screaming mad, I... yell into the depths of darkness!

Now, I raise a prayer to the heavens
And wish for one last spurt of strength...
Even if I'm not allowed to wish, or
these hands reaching out are rejected

No matter how many times I'm hurt (Glorious Break)
Hold on to that impulse, and shine bright

While donning "justice," I hurt others and accumulated many sins
I was violated endlessly by nightmares in a bottomless abyss

I trusted, and was betrayed... My memories were drenched in blood
Regurgitated yearning made me raise my fangs

(Misery) I wonder when it happened? When even my reasons were burnt away
There's nothing that can't be saved by destruction, so...

Please show me
How can an earnest song reach anyone
I'll show you how powerless a soul that is shaken by crying is

A dignified and piercing courage (Glorious Break)
As I am now, just like myself

What is "true strength"? What am I wishing for?
Pulsing life signs -vitals- awaken
For a do-or-die breath...!

Now, I raise a prayer to the heavens
And wish for one last spurt of strength...
The resolve to bear this burden is in my chest
So I stand strong without fear

Here, with an unbendable fighting spirit (Glorious Break)
I simply flap my wings towards the dawning sky
That is the reason why I can fight...!

Nana wanted to reward herself for completing SMASHING ANTHEMS and for finishing Live Adventure, and for finishing Live Adventure, so she went alone with her "cute little sister" somewhere in the south. She saw lots of beautiful sceneries with Masami-chan (Nana calls Asami "Masami-chan".), but the most beautiful one that she'll never forget is the starry sky she saw. "Is this CG?!" Is what she thought because she saw that the sky seems so close, the lights from the stars are strong, and the sky is filled with fucktons of stars. Nana rested on the bench together with Masami-chan, and they enjoyed their time together, talking with each other. They also saw lots of shooting stars. Lastly, Nana said it was really refreshing and was a great power charge. It motivated her to work harder.

>As tears pile up, the truth is revealed
>No matter where I go there's only a cruel conclusion -termination-
The revealed truth is the topic for the second sentence. "No matter where I go" doesn't seem like a good translation of どこまでも in this context.

>(Desperate) This prayer has been twisted by my defiance
>In searching for my answer, like I was screaming mad, I... yell into the depths of darkness!
>抗えずに
That's a negative. Also working as an adverb. The prayer was wrenched without resisting. That prayer is also what is yelled into the depths of darkness, but I guess that bit's fine as is. Just clarifying it.

>I'll show you how powerless a soul that is shaken by crying is
Not sure of this myself, can 思い知る be used as "show"?

Just leaving two my cents. I've been pretty alienated from this general as of late.
It seems the Symphogear "discussion" we have going most of the time is only tertiary at best, be it Anon's futanari fantasies about Tsubasa or the "create your own Geah OC" /tg/ stuff. I don't even mind discussion that you could qualify as secondary, like discussing Nana's and Aoi's works outside of Symphogear or yuri doujins but you have to drawn the line somewhere.
The waifu-fagging and /m/ not being able to keep his collective pants on for more than two minutes have always been recurring issues, nothing new here.

I just wish you would find a more appropriate place to discuss these things as, like it was previously mentioned, these circlejerk about your fapfic or whatever drown-out any actual attempt at discussing the show itself.
But yeah, just posting to remind that these are actual issues and not a single Anon being paranoid.
>>
>>13484330
>drown-out any actual attempt at discussing the show itself.

>Just woke up as well

I would like to second these points. So that's not just two or three paranoid anons, it is definitely a larger issue that I think some of us are starting to take note of. Actual discussion of the show is being drowned out and these threads really just aren't as fun as they used to be. Just my two cents added to the pile as well.
>>
>>13484344
There is a discussion related to GX happening right now, that is being ignored because of the meta arguing. Imagine the irony.
>>
>>13484348
>Actual discussion of the show is being drowned out
Fucking stop. Nothing gets drowned out, you're all incapable of either looking for the discussion where it's had, or hiding the posts you don't like. It's your responsibility to find what you want, not to make others stop doing what they want.
>>
>>13484330

Trust me, if this becomes like /a/ all the people complaing would wish to things stay the same. Futabasa is far better than crackfag and 100 posts of "Hibiki doesn't love Miku".
>>
>>13484358
Well then go ahead and talk about something instead of complaining about how others aren't doing it for you.
>>
>>13484330
If you guys get lost when people suddenly talk about Nana you can literally say anything Symphogear related to start discussion again. Nana discussions are like CMs when we're running out of things to discuss or news flash posts. Don't blame us Nanafags and Aoifags, we make sure not to mention them every single post we do. If after a single Nana post the following hours she's still the topic, that's not really our fault unless we samefag 10+ posts to desperately talk about them.

There's a status quo, and it doesn't need thread police ruining the thread.

Same here and I've never seen it used in another way, which is why I was asking. Either way, the sentence seems off. I wish you people had a little more tact when talking about this issue.
Aoi said that she didn't consider her performance matched Nana's and Ayahi's, in part because she was very nervous as she was not used to singing live, and feel bad about it. It was a bad experience for her.
We don't know if she "fucked the song" as you put it as nobody here or got to hear it.

As for what Anon was talking about, Aoi herself said that she conquered her trauma in the 2013 live, not to mention nowadays she has a lot more experience singing live and even had a solo concert this year, so singing First Love Song again would be hardly an issue. Hell, I bet you would love to have such an opportunity.

It has less to do with her performance of the song being regarded as poor and more with the fact she cracked under the pressure she was facing. That event was not easy for her, especially considering who was on either side of her during that song. She practiced really hard to prep and I think her own dissatisfaction of her performance far outweighs what any spectators thought. The crowd cried out in support of her when she broke down, so saying she "fucked the song" is not only harsh its flat out wrong.

Let me point a couple of things out for you.

First off, there's nothing unhealthy about waifu-ism if it doesn't effect your life. This is simply not up for debate. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING is defined as a mental disorder unless it interferes with your everyday life and relationships with family and friends. I can be the biggest daki hugging faggot alive and it doesn't matter as long as I can hold down a job, stay in shape, and not alienate family and friends. You're "it's not healthy" stance ignores the fact that human empathy leads to feeling things for fictional characters, and it's factually wrong per medical science.

Second, this is a Symphogear thread, not a Nana thread. Despite your complaints, posting images and talking about the characters in the show will always be more on topic than discussing a new Nana album, even if we're enjoying said album and like Nana.

Third, no one is stopping you from discussing the Nana album, and threads dying means absolutely fucking nothing when we can make as many threads as we want if people are still posting.

Now fuck off.

>You're "it's not healthy" stance ignores the fact that human empathy leads to feeling things for fictional characters, and it's factually wrong per medical science.

The first season was a niche original show with a few A-list VAs attached that suffered from a bumpy start and rough animation. G and GX's success was due to fixing the technical problems of S1 along with the addition of 3 new singers and double the amount of character albums released.

Also >>13484778

There are more VAs now, they're more popular (Aoi exploded and Nanjo has since done Love Live) and the show being around longer gets it more exposure.

I want this meme to die. The start and original tone of the series were fantastic.

Actually, think about it. It started off very dark and heavy, and slowly lightened up. By the end of season 3 every character was shitting heiki hecchara rainbows and Kaneko said the sadness is done forever. Where do we go now? Will the pendulum swing back?

You can't let someone tread all over a story with an existing canon for the sole purpose of selfish escapism and wish fulfillment. He just threw the entire story right down the toilet because he wanted to say "Hibiki and her dad are happy now!"

Her mom went through hell and back protecting and sticking by her daughter, forcing the man who beat her then ran out on her back into her life sickens me.

But wasn't that also Kaneko's fault? He changed the script and then he put the Chris' scene and the Mikufag producer saved his ass. Now we can hope that after him saving his ass Kaneko puts more Miku the next season so the producer feels satisfied.
>>
>>13483929

That's because Cross Ange was better than GX.
>>
>>13485504
Kaneko didn't made it easier for them with the heave cuts, but they should had complete script before the planning schedule for the animators, so the schedule fucks up is not entirely on Kaneko. Anime production usually start few months before it airs and we know that the last episode storyboard was completed one month before it airs. That means ep 7 should have been completed for some time. Any script change shouldn't appear before the 3 last episode because other episode should have been completed by that time.

FYI schedule fucks up happens all the time and its not only because the staff suck at making schedule but also because of other uncountable reason like the animators missing the deadline or late deliveries of outsourced cuts.

Isn't that Kaneko's fault? They gave Nana a full script but then it was changed because something, possibly some shit about topdad's redemption and he coming back with Hibiki's mother. It isn't production's problem if Kaneko came 1 day and said "hey guys, something to me happened and I want to change the scrip".

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It had some great moments, but the signs of the downfall were mixed in as were some bad parts. A lot of the first half banked on the second half being good and delivering on certain things, which it didn't.

>I'm never a fan of obligatory jobbing to a new enemy just to show off how strong they are with their new power.
Neither am I, unless it's going to be a consistent thing. Alcanoise were ultimately pointless but if they were consistently a threat like they were in episode 2 then I'd have been fine with it. The banana would be absolutely horrifying since the majority of its body is comprised of the antimatter white parts. As they were, though, the Alcanoise could've been cut from the plot entirely and literally nothing would have changed.

Y'know, if they were treated like Obelisk Force or something. Not unbeatable by any means but still to be feared.

There is nothing wrong with the idea of Hibiki forgiving Topdad. It's the way they handled it in-show that's bad. Maybe if we got some scenes with him outside of that diner to actually give him character. Fuck, Ending episode 7 with Hibiki running away and then starting with them back at school going "Oh hey we worked it out off-screen and now I'm gonna go meet up with him, everything's heiki hecchara Miku" was a fugly-ass cop out.

I'm tired of all the hype, honestly. I think it's detracting from actual quality.

S1 had hype moments, to be sure, but the reason it still holds up on rewatching is that it spends plenty of time building on its themes and characters.

This is the main reason why I hate Carol. How many good things did we lose in GX because we needed more scenes of geahs jobbing to dolls, alca-noise filler, convoluted keikaku, geahs in the hospital, papa flashbacks, elfnein flashbacks, "unimportant" doll characterization, ignite bullshit, alchemy bullshit, and so forth? It boggles the mind how a newly created character can have so much dead weight dragging down the entire show
>>
>>13485908

He's working at a convenience store in the middle of nowhere, of course he's going to have to talk to communicate with the two customers at the store. Even then when Hibiki would have to go up to the register and pay he'd notice it. There's no way that the two going to that store wouldn't initiate some form of contact with him.

In every language I know (including moon) to "raise your hand against someone" means to hit them. The idea permeates pretty much every culture.

Also, fuck the keywords. When it was like a jrpg glossary for technical stuff or background events, I liked it. Now we get 3 per episode so that Kaneko can shove all the exposition in there, and literally say "THIS IS WHAT MY CHARACTERS ARE THINKING AND FEELING!"

My God the series has fallen from grace.

Ah, okay. When I used "hype" I meant looking cool, or trying to do so, regardless of whether there is any substance to back it up. By that definition, GX was practically hemorrhaging hype all the way through, but of course I couldn't bring myself to give a shit.

There are so many things I wouldn't have minded if they had put in a little effort to back it up, but they just took it for granted that we'd instantly accept everything that happened or was stated to have happened. You could basically fit all of GX into a Star Wars opening crawl and not lose anything.

Even in blank air and cool-looking stuff GX kind of fell short. Like, I know some people probably dig it but the choreography took a severe nosedive. Really the best comparison here is probably Build Fighters. Earlier seasons had really intense, fast-paced fights where both sides put on a strong showing of mobility and technique just like the original Build Fighters (a little less tactics in Symphogear, though, not that it's a strike against Symphogear because it's not exactly a show where those are the main draw). Then Try/GX comes along and the fight scenes seem to completely forget anything remotely resembling choreography, covering the screen in close-ups of characters, filling the fight scene with more dialogue than direction, and boiling everything down to both sides hitting each other really hard. It doesn't take a genius to tell you that fast fights are more exciting and that close-ups and dialogue both tend to slow the pace down. There are exceptions to this in both cases but as a general comparison I think it makes sense.
>>

All Miku did was try to stop Hibiki from running away, and she could tell when Hibiki's clearly not hecchara with the situation. That's consistent with her character. Getting back with Topdad was all on Hibiki, and she could have just as easily walked away if that's what she wanted and Miku would've supported that if she just wasn't trying to dodge the issue.

Zoid did a TL for the song awhile back which includes the speaking dialog

Ban
“Yes, this is the special investigations division.
Roger that! I’ll move out ASAP!”

Got a 911 call from you, emergency dispatch
A jolt of electricity escapes from the chest, it’s shocking!
Unmoved by intimidation (Energy blaster!)
The bad guys can never escape (Sheriff cuffs!)
Destroying alibis with detective’s intuition, earth is his jurisdiction
At the street corner where dreams faded
In the darkness where love died out
Arriving on the scene to vanquish lurking evil!
Ba-Ba-Baan! Lightning Detective Ban!
On the front lines of criminal investigation, a top-class fighter
An electric spark of one-hundred million volts, it’s unstoppable!
An enforcer of justice (Justicket!)
A lightning-fast speedy chase (Mach Patroder!)
Praying while pulling the trigger, an inescapable memory

In the starry sky where tears stop falling
On the traveled road where flowers keep dying
Arriving on the scene to apprehend them in a flash!
Ba-Ba-Baan! Lightning Detective Ban!

???
Heheh, Ban! I wonder if your justice can reach me from here!
The immeasurable darkness of the Space Crime Guild exists everywhere!

Ban
Old man! …Why?!

???
If you keep up with the dirty dealings in this rotten world, you end up pretty fifthly yourself…
Hiyoko, you…don’t turn out like…

Ban
Old man?! OLD MAAAAAAN!!

The grip on the gun, held even tighter
Drawn along forcibly by the strings of fate
Vowing up to heaven, ignoring death’s lurking presence
This is….the cross I must bear

At the street corner where dreams faded
In the darkness where love died out
Arriving on the scene to vanquish lurking evil!
Ba-Ba-Baan! Lightning Detective Ban!

Why? It was a bit drawn out with shitty still animations, but the EXU DURAVIO DATTO?! Carol reaction was still nice, and they're the best Ex-Drive designs yet. It suffered from poor build-up if anything.
>>
>>13486880
X Drive just isn't as interesting the third time around, particularly when they throw away their cool new toy (IGNITE) away to bring back the old one. The lengthy buildup and ultra cheesy dialogue made it unbearable.

>>
>>13486888
I honestly don't mind the mechanic they used (stealing Carol's phonic gains), but again the execution wasn't very good. It's a running theme for GX. I'm a sucker for pulling something out of your ass in the face of utter defeat but again it was unconvincing because of the prior scenes where double ignite didn't seem any different whatsoever to regular unignite. If they made some ground but in the end still got their shit kicked in and the timer lapsed with an actual negative effect to it, that Ex-Drive scene wouldn't been fantastic. No suspense or build up is what killed it, not the scene itself. To me at least.

Hibiki was clearly bothered even when she said she didn't need him. She needs to get everything cleared up even if she decided to leave him. If she had a talk that actually ended with a conclusion and decided that she didn't need him and wasn't bothered by her decision, Miku would have accepted it, but she was bothered by it, and thats why she told Hibiki to talk to him again.
Remember, she just walked off after getting worked up by how horrible he was. She needed to tell him to ask her mother for forgiveness on his own without going through Hibiki, she never did tell him that until their second meeting.
>>

No. This right here is a load of supreme bullshit. She was bothered because of all she just went through, and because no one would just realize they were going to walk away from their father and be 100% ok a minute later. The leap in logic that she secretly needed to go and make up with him and that everything would turn out heiki hecchara is complete and utter bullshit.

>Remember, she just walked off after getting worked up by how horrible he was
Yes. She didn't look for vengeance or ask him for penance. She realized that he just wasn't worth it and she walked away. No need for that that "Well I'll just keep talking to him until Kaneko pulls redemption out of his ass" shit.

Oh, okay.

Probably Chris or Maria, yeah, for the dem thighs factor. Or Kanade, were she alive. She had some pretty fucking fantastic legs and thighs, too. Chris might be slightly less comfortable though because of how short her legs would be compared to Maria's, but it's really probably not that big of a deal. Given the choice I'd still pick Spearwing over either, though, because cuddling with the person you love makes up for any perceived or actual lower quantity of fluff.

After she got rekt, she spelled out why she was upset about.
The image that he had was completely different from what Hibiki thought of him, thats why she got upset and left.
She didn't get a proper conclusion from their talk, and she knows, because she walked off halfway through because she couldn't take the fact that her dad isn't the same person as she remembered.
She didn't tell him "Hey, you gotta get some balls and ask mom for forgiveness yourself", which is what she needed to tell him the whole time.

If plot didn't end up making him man up(after seeing Hibiki fight) and he still insisted on having Hibiki ask her after she told him that, she would have left him to rot.

You're right anon, how could I forget? Hibiki isn't allowed to explain her feelings and thought process after sitting down to think about something and then learning as a person. Her lying and denial aren't only a result of her running away from reality, as opposed to this situation where she got a heavy dose of it that shattered her delusions and allowed her to see things clearly. She has to say the complete opposite of what she's feeling every time, even if it doesn't make sense, and then Miku gives her the REAL answer because Hibiki is too stupid to figure it out on her own through experiences. She's not allowed to grow on her own or learn as a person. Even in a situation like this where she made the mature and level headed decision that would play perfectly into the other ideas of the show, we can't let her walk down that path. Miku has to tell her that she's wrong and that she needs to go back down the idealist retard road (because Miku always pushes her that way) until her denial of reality is so strong, that her dad magically finds the perfect opportunity to grow a spine and develop fatherly feelings, doing a complete 180 in a single scene.

The kinds of people who that that whole thing made sense and was ok aren't completely fucking retarded with their heads so far up Kaneko's ass that all they can see are heiki hecchara rainbows, and talking like a passive-aggressive and sarcastic woman doesn't make you sound like a faggot.

But hey, Hibiki needs a reality check sometimes, so that excuses any character development as long as we coat it with "But she's not being honest, let's figure out her true feelings based on nothing but plot contrivances and Kaneko's wish fulfillment." right?

>after sitting down to think about something and then learning as a person
>allowed her to see things clearly
>she made the mature and level headed decision that would play perfectly into the other ideas of the show
Just because you agree with the initial decision she made doesn't make it a level headed decision. From the show's perspective, Hibiki was wrong from the moment she left the diner.

>Miku has to tell her that she's wrong and that she needs to go back down the idealist retard road.
Again, this is not about ideals. Miku knows Hibiki avoids her problems; she's done so for years. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that she's hiding how upset she is. And that's what Miku's addressing. She's not saying, "Topdad needs to be redeemed, go make it happen." She's not saying, "Genjuro and I will never be a substitute for a real family member." She's saying, "I know you're not okay." Because Hibiki acted rashly, storming out without actually seeing the issue through to its conclusion. Even if removing Topdad were the right decision, making that decision on the basis of their first conversation, the one where she ran away crying after 2 minutes, would be a mistake.

>The kinds of people who that that whole thing made sense
I'm not saying the whole thing made sense. I am saying you are wrong when you claim that going back for a second meeting was unsupported by the context - that she had absolutely no reason to do so. I hate Topdad. I hate that fucking redemption scene more than any single scene in the rest of Symphogear. But you are wrong. A decision is not rationally made just because you agree with it.
>>
>>13487718
>Just because you agree with
>From the show's perspective
You're right. Despite the fan backlash and the director himself commenting negatively on it it was the right choice. The world is in black and white, and everyone can be forgiven and deserves forgiveness no matter what, because forgiving your blood relative no matter what happens and creating a cohesive and traditional family unit is what the series has been about from the start.

>Miku knows Hibiki avoids her problems
Miku knows that she avoids them, but in this case she went and talked to him, and after thinking about it she reached a conclusion. You can say "Miku didn't tell her to go redeem him and ignore her and Genjuro" all you want, but the reality is that the story and writing was doing exactly that. 100%, with no room for argument. They never even pretended the issue was "Go think about it rationally and made the decision when you're satisfied with things." it was "Go see what a shitbag he is until the story offers him up a pretense to act selfless (based on you and Carol becoming temporarily retarded) where he can fully redeem himself instantly and THEN AND ONLY THEN can you be truly happy."

>I am saying you are wrong
And I'm saying I'm completely right. She always ran away from reality and saw the world through the distorted lens of of idealism, which is what caused Miku to correct her actions and give her advise. She saw things for what they were, cooled down and then made a decision that wasn't based on idealism, nor did it go in the opposite direction into spite or hatred. Having Miku suddenly say "No, you're not ok! I just know it!" is not supported by the story at all. Miku always had a reason when she said things before, but this time it contradicted those reasons and we're told to accept it because it fits into Kaneko's shitty narrative. If that actually managed to fool you, you have no ability to follow a story and think about it at anything other than surface level.

>>13487821
It'd be different if it wasn't for the fact that it's always the same exact posts with the same exact points every time.
>>
>>13487745
You are literally claiming that a decision that was written as emotional had to be rational, because it makes sense to you. There is no other evidence that she made an informed decision based on a conversation where she said three sentences and then ran away crying. On the contrary, Miku's concern implies that she was still very upset, and that that was influencing her choice. And you can say "the theme of nonstandard family units is sacred" all you want, but the reality is Hibiki's judgment was clouded. That's how it was written.

And don't claim you're the only one who thinks GX was poorly written, or that because you think that anyone who disagrees with you has to defend everything about GX. I already told you I hated Topdad's redemption scene, so stop pretending I'm Kaneko. Miku wasn't contradicting Hibiki's impeccable logic, Hibiki was running away from her problems.

And you're so shortsighted that all you can see is "Miku tells her when she's doing something wrong and hiding her feelings. Miku told her she was doing something wrong. You're ignoring the circumstances and reasons behind how and why Miku knows when she's lying to herself, because none of those signs were there. The story just wanted an excuse to portray it as a rash decision (it wasn't) and you ate it up.

>There is no other evidence that she made an informed decision based on a conversation where she said three sentences and then ran away crying.
Except that she thought about it afterwards and walked Miku through her thought process which was completely rational. And can we skip the part where you pretend that explaining she met with him and he wasn't the man she remembered, then realized she already had people in her life who loved her and didn't need him was rational? She tried talking to him and he was a completely unapologetic scumbag who didn't show the slightest hint of remorse or desire to change. Her assessment that he just wasn't the great dad she remembered was spot on.

>you're the only one who thinks GX was poorly written, or that because you think that anyone who disagrees with you has to defend everything about GX
We're talking about this one scene and have been this whole time. While we're taking requests, could I ask that you not stray from the point and try to strawman me?

>Hibiki was running away from her problems.
See that's the thing, she wasn't. Miku literally stating that she was with no support from the story, then Kaneko's divine (read: bullshit) justification later on doesn't mean that scene made any sense or was consistent with the story's logic.
>>
>>13487874
>then realized she already had people in her life who loved her and didn't need him was rational?
wasn't rational*
>>
>>13487874
>No signs of Hibiki lying to herself
She was so emotional after the meeting, she got fucking rekt in battle and caused the bulk of the collateral damage.
That seems like Hibiki being really upset and affected by it.

And Miku being her childhood friend would know how Hibiki used to think about her father. Miku do have the clues.
>>
>>13487912
>she got fucking rekt in battle and caused the bulk of the collateral damage.
Yes. The show spouting inconsistent garbage like Hibiki telling herself "No wait, dad didn't ruin everything. I broke our family, too." was how they tried to justify it. If you listened to those lines and thought it made even a little bit of sense, then I don't know what to tell you. Even the idea that Hibiki is a self blaming idiot being the cause behind those actions and outbust doesn't make sense, because then Miku (who apparently can read her thoughts) would have actually addressed that. Miku's job has always been to catch Hibiki when she's spiraling down into self-hatred and irrational self inflicted punishment. We all know without a shred of doubt that Hibiki did nothing wrong as a child, and topdad was 100% in the wrong for what he did to his family, yet despite being the voice of reason she usually is and explaining this to Hibiki, Miku just told her to go talk to her dad again. In this scene Miku was not reading Hibiki's emotions or helping her solve her issues like she normally does, she was quite literally acting as Kaneko's plot device to push her back towards topdad, and the writing banked on the idea that the viewer will always accept whatever Miku tells Hibiki despite it being inconsistent this time around and not making any sense given the normal motivations behind Miku's talks with her.
>>
>>13487912
Well her dad who she hasn't seen in years after he left at the worst possible time being unapologetic and a complete scumbag on top of that couldn't possibly have anything to do with any reasonable person not being in the best mood.
>>
>>13487937
Her being mad was fine, you're right that anyone would be angry after seeing their father like that. Her then shifting the blame away from him and onto herself, and none of the support characters (remember when Genjuro and Miku were real people?) helping her through it was not fine. I can't believe they just neglected that character dynamic and set all the development and ideas in the story back for the sole purpose of setting up the topdad redemption.
>>
>>13487874

>And you're so shortsighted...
Okay, here I honestly want to make sure I'm understanding you correctly. You think Kaneko consciously had Hibiki make the "correct" decision of ignoring him, then - again consciously- had Miku give her "incorrect" advice to railroad the plot?

>didn't show the slightest hint of remorse or desire to change.
Except calling her.

>Miku literally stating that she was with no support from the story
Except when she literally ran away from him at the diner.

>We're talking about this one scene and have been this whole time. While we're taking requests, could I ask that you not stray from the point and try to strawman me?

Not exactly.
Miku is not telling Hibiki to accept Topdad, she's telling her to actually TALK to him and not run off halfway through after getting emotional.
Deciding to ignore him after half-assing the first talk and failing to reach a conclusion is not dealing with the problem.

Hibiki let her emotions cloud her judgement(Because her image of her dad is shattered), DIDN'T tell him the crucial line("Go get some guts and talk to mom yourself"), and ran off crying. She didn't deal with the problem, she ran away from it.
>>

>>13487948
>You think Kaneko consciously had Hibiki make the "correct" decision of ignoring him, then - again consciously- had Miku give her "incorrect" advice to railroad the plot?
No, he had her make the correct decision (which he thinks is incorrect, because he's lost his mind) of ignoring him, then has Miku give her incorrect advice (instead of the appropriate counseling I mentioned here>>13487935 , again, because he's lost his mind) to forward his plot. Just because Kaneko thinks it's the right idea doesn't mean the story presentation and existing characterization line up with his delusions.

>Except calling her.
The repeated calls happen later, he never came to visit her, and everything up until his redemption scene was him quite literally asking her to just get over it and ask her mom to take him back like nothing happened.

>Except when she literally ran away from him at the diner.
But that was completely justified. She didn't sit down to hear him say "Hey, I was kind of a dick back then. Things were really tough on me, and here's why, but that doesn't really excuse what I did. Sorry, my daughter. Do you think we could maybe take the first step towards starting over?" and then run out. He was a complete piece of shit every second he was on screen, right down to trying to push the bill on her.

>You're right. Despite the fan backlash and the director himself commenting negatively on it it was the right choice. The world is in black and white, and everyone can be forgiven and deserves forgiveness no matter what.
Come on now, context. I was replying to your ideas
>Just because you agree ... doesn't make it a level headed decision
>From the show's perspective
that the show's presentation of ideas isn't absolute.

>>13487956
The prose and grammar are worlds apart, there's no way to confuse them. I appreciate the thought, though, as responding to different points between different people can get dicey.
>>
>>13487985
But she already did try to talk to him. Not sitting down until he's said everything he wants to say and she acknowledges it doesn't mean she didn't try to talk to him. She didn't half ass anything, she made a real effort. He didn't even quarter ass it and expected her to come around. You're putting the entirety of the onus on Hibiki, and that's wrong. And again, Miku never tried to address her self-deprecation like she usually does, she just pushed her to talk to topdad again. Despite you saying "Miku's intention wasn't to get her to accept him" that's 100% what the show was doing with it, and Miku focusing on her talking to her dad before telling her "It's not your fault, you didn't do anything wrong." doesn't make any sense within the story.
>>
>>13488010
That instance of self-deprecation that got her hospitalized the second time was never brought up again outside of Hibiki's thoughts. It makes perfect sense if you file it under the things Kaneko forgot while he was writing GX. Actually, it might be better to say it's just par of the course since Kaneko has been avoiding touching the topic of Hibiki's self worth since S1.
>>
>>13487999
>he never came to visit her,
How is he supposed to know which fucking hospital and which floor/ward she's in?
Shit, does he even know she got hospitalised? Hell, he doesn't even know she was fighting the Noise.
How is someone supposed to visit another person in hospital, when they don't even know the guy is in the hospital?

Miku is the only one that can tell him, and she probably would have just told him to let Hibiki think about the whole thing on her own first before meeting again.

>>13488010
>You're putting the entirety of the onus on Hibiki
Sorry if you think I'm doing that, but I'm not. I'm merely explaining why the second meeting was a rational choice.

She got upset and left abruptly during the first meeting. There's no conclusion to their conversation, she didn't tell him to fuck off, she didn't tell him to man up. She cried about it later, and that's a reasonable response to what she's been through. She needed time to think about it before actually making a decision, and that's what Miku was doing. Hibiki is making a decision without thinking about it, while her emotions cloud her judgement.
>"Go talk to him again"
>Take this time to think about it before you tell him what you feel
>>
>>13487999
>No, he had her make the correct decision (which he thinks is incorrect)
So if he had her make a decision he thought was incorrect, was it made rationally? I think we're starting to approach an understanding.

>The repeated calls happen later
But he does call her in the scene with Miku. Her ignoring it is what leads Miku to point out something is wrong.

>But that was completely justified.
I was going to say something else, but the threshold for irredeemable douchebaggery is subjective, so I'll leave it at this: I think that A) even as comically scummy as he was, it wasn't enough to write him off forever, especially in the same season as Carol Malus "trying to break Hitler's record" Dienheim, and B) two minutes of flaring emotions isn't a good basis for a rational decision. If you accept that - and I'm not going to force you to - then there's enough doubt that he's truly beyond redemption for Hibiki of all people to give him another shot, even if just to get closure by making certain she made the right call.
>>
>>13488046
>It's makes perfect sense
>If you just assume the writer forgot to address it entirely
That still leaves it as a problem.

>>13488050
>How is he supposed to know which fucking hospital and which floor/ward she's in?
You want the real answer? He'd call the closest level one trauma center and say he's Tachibana Akira, Tachibana Hibiki's father and that his daughter had been hospitalized. Please don't say "Well that's real world logic that's too smart for an anime" because we're to believe this is a father who's looking to see his daughter.

>How is someone supposed to visit another person in hospital, when they don't even know the guy is in the hospital?
He wasn't shown to try looking for her at home, either.

>Sorry if you think I'm doing that, but I'm not. I'm merely explaining why the second meeting was a rational choice.
Those two sentences are 100% mutually inclusive. She didn't need to sit down and give him any more chances to explain himself, or need to tell him to fuck off and grow a pair. He came out swinging by showing what a piece of shit he was, and thinking that she should have tried harder is absolutely putting the onus entirely on her. He made absolutely 0 effort.
>>
>>13488059
>Carol Malus "trying to break Hitler's record" Dienheim
Trying to break MAO's record.

And more than likely succeeding.

It isn't a stretch to assume she at least got past Stalin.
>>
>>13488077
Yeah, Hitler was just the first to come to mind. Plus, you know, literally worse than
>>
>>13488059
>was it made rationally?
Did Hibiki make it rationally? Yes. Did Kaneko think so? No, he thought she NEEDED to talk to him again, despite cooling off then saying she didn't need him in her life being the rational choice because she even acknowledged she's built up a support system of other people who love her. Again, you keep falling back on the idea that author intent supersedes what's actually portrayed in the story.

>But he does call her in the scene with Miku
He called her once, and at that point he wasn't shown to want to make an honest effort, he was still in the mindset that everything should just be handed to him and Hibiki should be ok with him and help him get back with mom. That's reflected in his "actions" when he just tries to (quite literally) phone it in instead of looking for his daughter. He wants to dial her up and have her show up where he is on his watch.

> but the threshold for irredeemable douchebaggery is subjective
Then the conversation is over, because if we're going by my subjective scale the first words out of his mouth not being an apology for hitting his family and then running out on his family after they objectively did nothing wrong and needed his protection (the thing a father is supposed to provide, as apposed to making the mom work crazy hours and the daughter fend for herself as a helpless child) should have ended in Hibiki breaking his face. I can understand not everyone having the same line there, but the way he acted after everything he'd done followed by pushing the check off on her is 100% irredeemable, and if that doesn't cross your threshold then we really have nothing left to say here, as that's the linchpin of this entire discussion.

>it wasn't enough to write him off forever
What part of refusing to guide a few helpless kids away from danger is "comical"?

>same season as Carol Malus
2 wrongs don't make a right. She deserved death, he deserved to be simply left to die alone, unloved.

>He called her once
Wait, wasn't there a scene at the end of one of the episodes where you see her phone is filled with voicemails/texts from him?

Don't answer that because it's rhetorical and the answer is yes.
>>
>>13488126
Wait, didn't we already differentiate between the two phone scenes with the second one being after her conversation with Miku where she was told to go see him again?

Don't answer that because it's rhetorical and the answer is yes.
>>
>>13488070
>He'd call the closest level one trauma center and say he's Tachibana Akira, Tachibana Hibiki's father and that his daughter had been hospitalized.
That's assuming he knows she got hospitalised, does he even know she got hospitalised? He doesn't. He doesn't even know she was fighting the Noise at that point. All he knows that she's a student, and he probably doesn't even know what school she's studying at.

He called her(The only way he could have contacted her), and Hibiki refused his call.
She didn't even take his calls to tell him to fuck off. She "made" a decision, and doesn't tell him about her decision.
That's not dealing with the problem at all, she's just ignoring him under the excuse of having "made a decision"

Miku told her to talk to him so, you know, she's actually dealing with the problem, whether she wants to accept him or not, she can tell him right there.
Ignoring him(Which is what she's doing after the first conversation) doesn't solve the problem, making a decision after thinking about it and telling him solves the problem.

He's a terrible person, but ignoring him is not solving the problem.
>>
>>13488134
Well excuse me because I'm only tangentially paying attention to this conversation. I'm not going to chug this much bile.

Also it seems kind of odd to put such a huge focus on superficial actions when a whole episode of GX was spent talking about implicit signs of affection. Not saying anything one way or the other, just pointing that out.
>>
>>13488151
>He called her(The only way he could have contacted her), and Hibiki refused his call.
He knows where her mom lives. He knows where Miku lives. He could have been shown making an effort to find her, but he didn't. It's plain and simple, cut and dry. The attitude he took with "making up with her" was reflected in his conversations with her and his attempts to contact her. He wants everything handed to him, and he doesn't want to actually try to mend anything.

Any speculation you provide along the lines of "Well maybe he did try..." is complete head canon, as Kaneko has been bashing us over the head with every little plot point via Keywords since GX, and topdad just never fucking tried. That's all there is to it.

>she's just ignoring him under the excuse of having "made a decision"
She has absolutely no fucking obligation to tell him what's going on with her life. Don't pretend for a second that ignoring him isn't something she was allowed to do, and that it's not a real decision.

>He's a terrible person, but ignoring him is not solving the problem.
You're flat out wrong. Ignoring him is the best thing should could do. Don't waste energy hating him, don't put yourself through trying to forgive him. Just let it go and walk away. "Cut your loses" is a common expression for a reason.
>>
>>13488106
>What part of refusing to guide a few helpless kids away from danger is "comical"?
Sorry, I meant "Saturday morning cartoon villain."

Anyway, I somehow didn't realize you were going full "death of the author." And if we're doing that, I'd rather forget about GX completely unless S4 is amazing and fixes all its problems I know, it'll never happen. In any case, whether events in episode 9 are consistent with the rest of the pulpy, mangled, rotten pile of garbage seems rather a moot point.

Good talk, anon (heated as it got at times). Night.
>>
>>13488171
>Well excuse me because I'm only tangentially paying attention to this conversation.
If you're going to be a complete fucking prick and drop a line like "Don't answer that because it's rhetorical and the answer is yes." while trying to sound clever, maybe try actually reading the conversation you're jumping into next time.
>>
>>13488181
>"death of the author."
I'm not rewriting his story or the messages behind it, and I acknowledge full well what he was trying to accomplish with every scene. I'm saying that his ideas were a mess and the story didn't make sense. You can't write it off as someone crying death of the author (let's be honest, it's never invoked for anything other than people who want to write fancanon) when the series has an entire production staff behind it with a history of internal strife and disagreement. I'm not projecting my ideas and saying the superseded the story, I'm saying that he overstepped his boundaries and killed every other authors' voice. You're allowed to say "This writing is shit" without it being a callout to death of the author.

No, no, I get that not everyone is worth emotional weight.

But, saying that when you clearly rewatched every Topdad scene multiple times so you can have ammunition for if you get into multi-hour long arguments about him on a daily basis simply because someone has a dissenting viewpoint about a very minute detail about the way the arc's execution didn't match perfectly with your ideals.

I'm mostly confused because that seems mildly hypocritical.

I know there's some of you guys here that like Nana, please go to this page and answer the survey.
http://form.mizukinana.jp/enquete/index.php
Since Nana is celebrating her 15th year as an artist, she's going to have a special program on December 6 in NHK BS Premium.
For question 1, please pick ONE song of Nana that is really filled with memories to you. In short, your favorite fucking song.
For question 2, tell why is it important to you, what kind of episode you had in your life that made you love that song. (I think its okay to put in English because they have an overseas option in question 4)
For question 3, pick which is your age group from the choices given.
For question 4, pick where you are. Since most of us are non-nipponese, pick the last option (日本以外の国 "Countries other than Japan")
For question 5, pick your gender. 男性 is for man, 女性 is for woman.
And lastly, put in your handle name or your nickname.
This is an official survey, as you can see it has NANAPARTY's emblem.
>>
> What I eventually came up with is found in the climax scene of episode 13 where we combine two songs together: (G)lorious Break and E(X)terminate. When I brought the idea to Ms. Nana Mizuki I asked her, “Can you help make 2 songs that have a single meaning?” and she cheerfully replied, “That’s interesting, let’s do it!” So thanks to her we were able to make it happen.

Also on a final note cause new thread: if I'm correct and you're the dude that was arguing one half of the shitstorm that happened before, I think you need to realize that people can share opinions and state opinions because they want to. There's nothing wrong with that, but when you get so trigger happy to tell people wrong and start yelling "stop policing" "stop doing this" "no", then you're just breeding arguments as well. You don't have to respond, but you do and you want to prove the point that you don't like policing, or what you assume are people policing? Then be prepared to realize that you're one half of the reason for why those shitstorm arguments ruin threads because you are incapable of ignoring things you don't like, which ironically is what you seemed to be advocating for. Or at least what I read when I first saw this thread. Just my impression from what happened in this whole thread
