HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOMINO!
>>13459403
Lalah looks disappointed.
how old is he
>>13459416
I'd be disappointed too if my boyfriend tried to kill everyone on Earth for ~reasons~.
>>13459419
How would you defeat EF with a single fleet? You're not Yang Wenli.

Yeah, sure.

Happy birthday you old bastard!
>>13459429
He lived almost 7 times more than Ple already.
>>13459498
He should survive to the twelve time.
>>13459403
Is there another one for shows from 1985 (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam) until 2014 (Gundam Reconguista in G)?
>>13459403
I wonder why it cuts off at L-Gaim. I suppose it is basically all Gundam after that point to the mid 90s, so it'd kind of dilute the impact to have a shit load of Gundam and make it more a "Gundam" image than a "Tomino" image.
>>13459422
I wouldn't. Char only tried because he didn't want to wait any longer to achieve his goals and because he wanted to fight Amuro. He was a moron. He'd have been better off strengthening his position through politics and trade than trying to achieve a quick military victory.
>>13459537
Nope.
>>13459540
>I wonder why it cuts off at L-Gaim.
Because Japan thinks Golden Age of mecha ends with Zeta.
Because these are his most famous original works.
>>13459544
> Because Japan thinks Golden Age of mecha ends with Zeta.
Then Zeta itself would be in the image, even if that were true.
> Because these are his most famous original works.
Brain Powered and Overman King Gainer are at least as famous as L-Gaim or Dunbine.
I'm pretty sure that it's because those are his most productive years turning out original property after original property, and that after that it becomes Gundam only for roughly a decade.
>>13459540
The legal fight leads to nothing or to repressions (the peaceful movement would be supressed by the force of police and LondoBell).
The ideas of Char would be hard to spread in the other colonies - the EF would launch a mass-media campaign against Zeon.
And building heaven in a single colony would end in its failure (USSR became a stagnating nomenclature state while it began as the revolutionary power).
>>13459426
>No mole
Its an impostor!
>>13459554
>Then Zeta itself would be in the image
It is not included.
>even if that were true.
/m/ has discussed this a billion times. This is what Japan thinks, and it doesn't mean they don't like Zeta.
>Brain Powered and Overman King Gainer are at least as famous as L-Gaim
Maybe.
>Dunbine
Not even close. Dunbine is one of the most loved Tomino's anime in Japan.
>>13459540
And there's no representation of colonies in EF Assembly, no elections to choose the colony mayor.
>>13459558
> /m/ has discussed this a billion times. This is what Japan thinks, and it doesn't mean they don't like Zeta.
That doesn't mean /m/ is right or any kind of authority on the subject. Saying Zeta was the cutting off point for the Golden Age of mecha means that shows like Layzner, Dancouga, Dragonar and Gunbuster, some of which were only a few months behind in airing aren't included. Which is just plain silly.
> Not even close. Dunbine is one of the most loved Tomino's anime in Japan.
You're probably right actually, yea, they'd still be more popular than some of the other works like L-Gaim, Zambot or even Xabungle, much as I love that.
>>13459607
>Which is just plain silly.
And yet, this is what Japan thinks. Golden Age ended with Zeta. It is not about quality, it is about industry and how it changed with sequel like Zeta and Yamato.
Deal with it. And if you want to talk about it, make another thread, don't turn this one into an off-topic thread.
>Xabungle
Xabungle is popular too. Lately it is getting a lot of love in plamo events and even a kit from WAVE.
Meanwhile nobody seems to remember Brain Powerd and King Gainer is more known for the silliness and the opening, but nothing more than that.
Why did Tomino made Lalah indian? There wasn't many indian characters before and now there's not many of them too.
>>13459556
> The legal fight leads to nothing or to repressions
Nice conjecture. That's all it is though, because we have no idea whether it'd work given that we don't actually see Char try. On the other hand, he did actually have some success trying peaceful methods, given that the Earth Federation was willing to negotiate with him and then let him leave without incident afterwards despite using the Zeon name when in control of Sweetwater and having just dropped an asteroid on their heads.
Even in the original show, Zeon was allowed to secede and the Federation didn't start any fighting until Zeon attacked them. Outside of the Titans the Federation's MO isn't to violently suppress political movements, because it's more hassle than it's worth. The Federation was just too tired, broke and unconcerned to be fighting him if they didn't absolutely have to.
> the peaceful movement would be suppressed by the force of police and LondoBell.
Londo Bell was a special forces unit formed with the remit of fighting armed anti-government activities. If Zeon was peaceful, they'd have no reason to fight them and even in Char's Counterattack it's Bright and Amuro that's pushing for them to attack Char, because he suspects duplicity on Char's part. Shit, Bright has to disobey orders to actually attack Char in the end.
If Char wasn't acting suspicious and actually genuinely tried peaceful methods there's nothing to suggest that Bright, Londo Bell or the EF would have gone after him.
> The ideas of Char would be hard to spread in the other colonies
Why? They'd be no harder for him to spread than for his father, who already spread them quite successfully only a few decades before hand. Successfully enough that Degwin saw it as a political opportunity and (probably) assassinated him to take over his role.
Char was even having success, given that he'd managed to take over at least one colony, build up an armed force and getting political attention at his speeches.
>>13459639
> the EF would launch a mass-media campaign against Zeon.
The EF has never used a mass-media campaign in the show and given the history of their treatment of the original Deikun and Zeon movements, there's no reason they'd start with Char.
> And building heaven in a single colony would end in its failure (USSR became a stagnating nomenclature state while it began as the revolutionary power).
There's no reason he had to stick to a single colony, even if that conjecture were universally true including in fiction.
>>13459559
That didn't stop him being the dominant power in Sweetwater so I don't see why it should stop him becoming the dominant power in multiple colonies if he actually gave it more than a handful of years worth of effort.
>>13459634
Well it's made her stand out in that case I suppose. So it worked.
>>13459646
Sweetwater is a colony full of refugees with great protest potential. I suppose that Char took over Sweetwater during a sort of coupe. Conquering colonies is hard and may end In loosing too much men
>>13459422
I'd probably start by not trying to destroy the EF or Earth at all, because that's dumb.
>>13459403
Is this pic from a parallel universe where he died in the mid 80s or what?
>>13459654
And how will you deal with the unfair distribution of wealth between Earth and colonies?
>>13459622
> And yet, this is what Japan thinks. Golden Age ended with Zeta.
And yet you still haven't posted any proof.
> it is about industry and how it changed with sequel like Zeta and Yamato
Yamato and Mazinger had sequels long before Gundam did, so why would Gundam be the decider? Also, the glut of good, new original properties continued after that point for at least another year or so, which is why I pointed out shows like Dancouga and Layzner airing a few months after Zeta.
> if you want to talk about it, make another thread, don't turn this one in to an off-topic thread
The thread barely has a topic as is, and was immediately off-topic as is discussing Lalah and Char.
> Xabungle is popular too. Lately it is getting a lot of love in plamo events and even a kit from WAVE.
Well that's nice to hear.
>>13459652
> end in loosing too many men
It can't end worse than his actual plan did.
>>13459661
Zeon always manages to find ways to spend the billions it costs to outfit an army despite that unfair distribution of wealth, so I'd probably start with re-allocating some of that.
>>13459661
I'd say "Suck it! If you really wanted, you wouldn't be poor"
>>13459662
>And yet you still haven't posted any proof.
Go look for the document about mecha genre history written by Japanese government.
>>13459639
Char said that he will buy Axis to let his supporters settle there. He promised to give away his nuclear missles. Probably the EF officials thought that Char is just an egomaniac which is easier to calm down with presents than fighting.
Zeon wasn't allowed to secede, it was granted with an autonomy, which is not quite the same.
About ideas. EF may launch information warfare, just like modern governments. For example, when indians became interested in what was happening in Russia in 1917, British government has funded publishing anti-communist and fabianist pamphlets.
>>13459666
Free market will solve everything, eh?
>>13459663
>outfit an army
Principality had facilities on Side 3 (which is shitload of colonies) and some facilities on Granada.
Axis Zeon had asteroid belt factories and resources.
Char's Neo Zeon was depending on the Anaheim money
>>13459677
> Char said that he will buy Axis to let his supporters settle there. He promised to give away his nuclear missles. Probably the EF officials thought that Char is just an egomaniac which is easier to calm down with presents than fighting.
They didn't give him any presents though, they just allowed him to do what he wanted to do if he promised not to be a violent leader. Which falls entirely in line with their treatment of other leaders, like Degwin (let him make Side 3 independent), Haman (let her drop a colony) and afterwards, Zanscare - who they let to their own devices as a rule. The Federation have never tried to solve political uprisings using violence, only used it in kind.
> Zeon wasn't allowed to secede, it was granted with an autonomy, which is not quite the same.
If it only had autonomy then it'd still technically be part of the Federation and thus allowed to trade. It wasn't, therefor it wasn't autonomous, given that it had to do everything for itself, not just home rule.
> About ideas. EF may launch information warfare, just like modern governments
Tomino has very rarely had the EF act like a modern government, and again, it flies in the face of precedent, because as far as we know they did nothing similar for any of the other conflicts they went through, political or martial.
>>13459691
All three of those still cost money. A lot of it.
>>13459700
>never tried to solve political uprisings using violence
What about police and guntanks on Side 3?
>>13459717
Which was when exactly?
>>13459732

So basically from some supplementary material or dubious canonicity to anything ever and definitely not in the actual animations?
>>13459749
>definitely not in the actual animations?
Gundam The Origin OVA, Ep 1.
>>13459756
You mean the alternate universe (that I haven't watched and really should get around to at some point) that doesn't actually affect Char's Counterattack?
I hadn't actually known of that, but I wouldn't take it as an example personally because it's Yas' vision of things made years later and not really meant to be in the same canon as Char's Counterattack, even if Banrise make it so.

> A great deal of evidence points to roughly 1985 as the turning point into decline for
robot anime.
> roughly 1985
The document only gives it as a rough point and says that Zeta is symbolic of the end of that era, not the exact end point.
