Now I'm not exactly fond of CE but Rau was definitely a standout Char clone. This goes beyond treating him as a hero for wanting to end Seed. He was a nihilist and his goals were insane and twisted, but unlike so many other Char clones there was no weak attempt to cover it up with muh ideals, no prior baggage that makes his ultimate plan stand out as not fitting the character.

He was the clone of a madman who thought all too highly of himself, born and bred to be "perfect" but requiring a constant intake of medication to even remain alive from the onset, making for a twisted psyche. His views about CE as a whole are proven correct as humanity further advances down its pointless conflict which is only "solved" at the end of Destiny by one side posessing overwhelming power "pacifying" all the others.

The best/worst part is that this particular side is led by people who, like Rau, were created specifically for the goal to be superior, if not perfect, in the fields they wind up in. Kira was created to be the ultimate coordinator and spent a huge chunk of his life trying to avoid being dragged into conflict, yet he winds up being the spearhead for it all. Lacus was designed to be a tool of propaganda. Not only was Rau right, but the show was incompetent enough that it kind of wound up making Durandal right as well.

Here's the thing though. In 00 Innovators are meant to be a natural step of evolution, GN particles only accelerate the process, and the status as an innovator grants magic understanding powers that allow for proper communication with metal alien beings from outer space, never mind another human being. A closer parallel are Innovades, who were artificial beings created supposedly to assist with humanity's natural evolution but made superior to humans, much like coordinators, which led to the conflicts in the show, primarily prompted by a single asshole figure.

This guy gets it. Gundam SEED is so fucking incompetent and messed up, it's own main villain comes off as one of the most likeable, sympathetic and understandable characters in the entire shit show experience. Which is easily what solidifies him as one of the best Char clones to date.

He goes bat shit insane being the unwanted incomplete clone of a financial billionaire madman intended to be waste material for him so he could cheat death, he has to munch down specifically designed pills filled with inducers to stop his telomeric genes from rapidly aging in very painful sequenced bursts, he has to constantly eat the political shit from a fucked up age of morons too obsessed with what people do with their own DNA rather than cherish even having life to begin with given his nightmare life.

His whole character is essentially a well designed and carefully laid out wake up call for humanity and even Kira hasn't a clue what to say to him in the end during their fight. He knows Rau is completely correct in all his crazy ramblings.

That is how bad they fucked up Gundam SEED, the villain speaks more sense than the hero.

I think the issue is that it's clear that Rau is a madman and SHOULDN'T be allowed to kill all of humanity, the way that the antagonist groups carry themselves, they lend a little bit too much to the idea that Rau is right.

It doesn't do well that Rau says that people would want to be Kira and chase after his strength to have Kira retort that he's just a normal guy, and then have the sequel do everything in it's power to let everyone know that Kira isn't just some guy, he is THE GUY, and throw as many powerups and rankings at him as they can.

It just sours the idea, you know? It'd be like instead of Vegeta being the Saiyan Elite, he whines to Goku that Goku's the elite and that's why he's so strong, Goku says that's not the true, and then it's revealed that he's a super special breed of Super Saiyan.

Despite all his insane rambling, he was right. People can and will be jelly of people that are better, and people don't let go of their hatred easily.

Why the fuck did the conflict start? Because the Naturals are jelly that the Coordinators are better, it's pretty human.
Why did it get worse? Because Coordinators retaliated(Why wouldn't you?), and it just becomes an endless cycle of them attacking each other. By SEED, it became a full blown war where both sides want to wipe each other out. There's too much hatred going around.

Hell, why did the second war started again? Because a bunch of Coordinators were still pissed about Junius Seven and dropped it on Earth.
