Also interested OP.
I watched this years ago on tv but cant remember anything.
>>
It was years ago since I watched it but I remember my main gripe with it being that the show showers you with way too much tragedy. Basically so much terrible shit happens to everyone that at some point the main theme of the story - the girl losing her self and becoming a weapon - becomes just trivial in comparison, I don't wanna spoil anything but it's just that ridiculous.

Crying: The Anime

It's alright. Not awesome, but alright. Every cries all the time.

I can't believe this happens in the manga. No wonder the anime took her touching his dick out. Fuck me.

Yes

Wouldn't bother rewatching these days.

Anime or manga? Also, why do people like the manga more? Is it just because of the ending?

It's full of some of the most overblown forced drama I've ever seen in an anime, and that's saying something since that's been a staple of anime since always.

I recommended it because I think it's good (if you want some suffering), it's only 6 episodes so it's not like you'll waste a lot of time if you don't like it.

The English title sounds so much better than the Jap one. They're like "ok but how should we translate kanoujo?" and came up with something far more imaginative.

>>13442089
this is the manga ending right? I'd like to think that being the last humans alive she either heals the earth or goes of to a distant habitable planet and become the next adam and eve

Ok, watching this now. It's surprisingly better than I expected, the trailer makes it look awful. So far it lacks all the problems that keyshit has and actually has half decent writing.

Does anyone want to explain why people didn't like the anime ending? It's been awhile since I've saw it, but I remember it being near enough the same as the manga except a little difference.

>>13450023
She like symbolically takes all the souls and history of mankind with her into outer space as if to say that we, humanity existed. That's how I see it. Though it's a shame that the OVA and live action movie killed the series for many people. I still have nightmares of 'em.

>>13450200
At least it's in a good way. Honestly, I've never seen another manga/anime evoke such emotion from its readers/viewers.
>>
>Does anyone want to explain why people didn't like the anime ending?
Bump. Anyone?
>>
>>13450207
Pretty sure people would still want to keep on living.

Or was there some super virus going around?
>>
>>13450694
>She like symbolically takes all the souls and history of mankind with her into outer space as if to say that we, humanity existed.

Most likely this. She was busy with preserving some knowledge about all the places and people she was told to turn into brown stains in the geological record after all.
>>
>>13438035

Didn't you pay attention to what was going on? The planet was dying, and the earthquakes and the like were a part of that. Everyone knew they were going to die. They just didn't want to admit it.

>>
>>13456701
they never quite made it clear who or what they were fighting did they?
>>
>>13457614
The world was dying, everyone knew it. The war was all about running away to places that were still safe. At the end, Chise kills everyone to stop it.
>>
>>13457623
That sounds like bullshit. All of humanity is going to die, so might as well put them out of their misery? No, fuck that noise. There's always hope, even if you have to build second earth (Blue Gender) or abandon the planet (Muv-Luv, Alternative 5 plan)
>>
>>13457646
Humanity itself gives up in the setting, anon. They decided to fight until the bitter end. They didn't try to save themselves, they were too busy denying everything and killing each other. Chise didn't have the power nor the interest to save mankind. She only cared about Shuji.
>>
>>13457657
Humanity isn't a collective.
Somewhere out there, there is hope, and the people that yearn for it.
>>
>>13457841
The setting does offers you that, but at the same time shows you that people will follow their leaders, even if they know it's pointless to do so. Another thing is that there wasn't any hope. The planet was dying, period. There was nothing that could be done about it.

Except Saikano has meaning and reason for everything while those other stuff don't. They're pleb shit in comparison. And, Muv-Luv? Please leave.

This guy >>13457657 understands, so it's like you haven't even read the manga or watched the anime. Because you'd come to the same conclusion.

>>13457614
They mention wars in other countries before the Sapporo bombing, and it's also implied. Humanity went to war with itself and instead of healing the planet, they just built new weapons (Chise being one of them) which pushed the planet further to its death.

Also, they mention the SDF being "deployed overseas" so I presume that WW3 or random wars started and everyone just went insane and invaded everything around them. Or, the entire planet invaded Japan (Russia, France and USA only seen) because they made Chise/the Ultimate weapon. Really, it's left to your imagination because that's not the focus of the plot or story.
>>
>>13460072
>while those other stuff don't. They're pleb shit in comparison. And, Muv-Luv? Please leave

Again, sorry to be harping on this but did anybody watch the OVA? Or the live action movie for that matter?
>>
>>13465880
I watched the OVA. It's boring and focus on a "previous generation" Ultimate Weapon. Who, somehow, was in love with that military guy (Fuyumi's husband) It's a really stupid addition that doesn't really adds anything of value to the overall story.
>>
>>13467999
Same here. It was shit and pointless. Even more so seeing how the original author didn't write it, or at least I think so.
>>
>>13470525
I doubt he did. the stuff he added later to the Saikano storyline was despair inducing. That guy is twisted as fuck.

Oh, those? Already read 'em. LSK sucked and wasn't written by the author, I think. There's like a bazillion other peoples names slapped on it. Then again, as it itself states its not meant to be liked, just listened to. Meh.

Anyhow, LSK is part of the Gaiden, too, FYI. It's essentially a bunch of short stories like Neo Devilman.
>>
>>13474369
generally I hate those kind of story because it's depressing, the thing is they're meant to be, LSK tried to show the senselessness of it all and on that front I think it works, I mean sure there are plenty of other works that present this much better than LSK but it works for me.
>>
>>13474369
Manga updates list Love Story, Killed under Shin Takahashi (Saikano's original author) I guess they got it wrong.

This is the "gaiden" I mentioned: Saishuu Heiki Kanojo Gaiden - Sekai no Hate ni wa Kimi to Futari de - Which is a collection of short stories, but only one chapter was ever translated. It is listed under Shin too.
>>
>>13474419
Of course he's listed on it. It's like slapping Go Nagai on Neo Devilman (even though he did write one or two of them). At most, he probably just gave them guidance on it unless I'm just talking out of my ass. Though we'd be able to confirm if credits were translated which I doubt.
>>
>>13475245
Well, Saikano is pretty much dead as IP everywhere. No one would translated those side stories.

Cough. Cough. I might. Cough. Cough. Anyhow, the live action pretty much killed any interest in the series in Japan. It was that bad. Have any of you guys seen it? It's fucking awful.
