Well actually Tachibana sort of goes through a similar thing when he's manipulated by Isaka (who also had mind-control powers). He wisens the fuck up pretty quickly though and finds a reason for fighting as a Rider that helps him move forward though.

Like, the show even has the Zodiarts and the Fourze System grow according to who uses them (Zodiarts have a base ability that can become totally different based on the user's personality, and Fourze also has powers that come from the Kamen Rider Club and Gentaro). In the same way, the Switches are neat but they gain a whole layer of appeal from seeing Foure and the Zodiarts use them;.

Date wasn't actually meant to be an ongoing Rider, he was meant to die from a bullet lodged in his brain back when he worked in Africa, leaving Gotou as the true Birth. We actually got official episode summaries for it at one point, long before the later arc where they actually used that as a plot point.

Nobody knows the truth, but for some reason they changed the plan and Date became a main cast member. I know the cast in real life loved him, and I guess he tested well with audiences? Maybe nobody liked Gotou?

Kind of wish OOO had a similar Cell Medal sink. Like, I get that Birth is meant to fill that role intentionally both in-universe and out of universe, and I love that Eiji recognized that he didn't need Cell Medals and let Birth have them all forever to Ankh's horror. But the resource management aspect of OOO with the Greeed farming Cell Medals and OOO/the Greeed losing and gaining Core Medals each week was so good. Adding an extra layer where Eiji needed Cells to do non-sword finishers or to keep Ankh from getting too weak would have been interesting.
