>makes sense
Sure...just like how people irl treat OPEC as a holy thing and let them tell us things like "don't look up".

Seriously, the taboo against astronomical observation is as stupid as you can get. The most reliable way to make SURE people look up is to tell them not to.
>>
>>12508376
Or maybe just stick to A/Z?
>>
>>12508376
If they can't look up at the stars, you limit their dreams. Without dreams, ambitions are diminished. Without ambition, people become content. And when people are content, what reason do they have for war?
>>
>>12508392
Very poetic, but ultimately stupid because your poem presumes that the people CAN'T look up, when actually they still can and are, in fact, more likely to do so if you tell them not to.
.
"Don't look up"
"Why not?"
"Just DON'T"
and then people look up the moment your back is turned.
>>
>>12508376
>>12508422
It worked (and works as a concept) because they also attached to that "don't do astronomical observations!" bit the fact that the Earth was recovering from horrific catastrophes that also resulted in Human farming for cannibals.

When people ask why they shouldn't look up and your answer is, "remember that apocalypse a while back?" it tends to be a pretty compelling argument against doing it.

All this talk of not looking up reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
>>
>>12508422
You can look up all you want, but if you start building high-powered telescopes you'll find your battery supply cut off.
>>
>>12508447
Not to mention, the people tasked with distributing the space batteries are very big on their religion. You break the Taboo, they cut off your power. So, are you really going to look up knowing that?
>>
>>12508376
>Seriously, the taboo against astronomical observation is as stupid as you can get.
Just like not eating during Ramadan. So what?
>>
>>12508353
It's a good thing I need complex charts and a study guide to watch a children's cartoon.>>12508351
>>
>>12508554
At least this information all comes from the show itself and not supplemental materials.
>>
>>12508463
But you don't need high powered telescopes. You only need a decent back-yard model to see the level of detail shown in the picture during the scene where Noredo mentions observation being taboo.

But that's beside the point. When your people are ignorant and you can threaten them with ultimatums ostensibly received from God you can get people to try to not think about certain things. But the fact of the matter in G-Reco is that Capital Tower is not some ancient holy site, they remember building it. They remember why the undernut is not counted as one of the 144, etc... Everything about SU-Cordism revolves around treating things they know for a fact they built themselves as if they were sacred to a higher power. Also the idea of no one ever questioning where the batteries come from before Belliri wanders up into space is impossible to swallow.
>>12508492
Oppression does not inspire obedience. Battery deliverymen demanding to be treated as sacred cows would NOT last for a thousand years. Also, unlike god, the battery deliverymen cannot be presumed to be able to watch everything you do every second of the day so people WILL still look up.
>>
>>12508575
>the battery deliverymen cannot be presumed to be able to watch everything you do every second of the day so people WILL still look up.
You do realize this was exaggerated on purpose to highlight how ignorant they were?

>>
>>12508575
>But the fact of the matter in G-Reco is that Capital Tower is not some ancient holy site, they remember building it.

And how's this different from any number of Holy sites around the world how? It's the importance that people have given it that makes it "holy." SU-Cordism is a measure humanity adopted in order to save themselves from themselves.Things that are related to it, in this case the Capital Tower, take on a different meaning when you consider that it helped them rebuild civilization.

When people are content, they don't question the world around them. Think of a child getting a chocolate bar. He doesn't think about where the bar came from, what's in it or who made it.
>>
The taboos were never a perfect system, and the show doesn't treat them as such. They probably worked for a bit while civilization was still recovering, but eventually the Capital started losing the war against progress. This is why other countries have kickass robots and spaceships and shit.

>>
>>12508697
>different from any number of Holy sites around the world how?
Because holy sites are places where events from a story involving people doing what God told them took place.
Capital Tower is a fucking bridge, not the site where God appeared to a farmer to deliver a prophecy.
>>
>>12508734
The Capital is more "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Say what you will about the Taboos, they still have ushered in 1000 years of peace.

Ameria, though, wanted to expand. The system in place allows them to get by, but not to stockpile resources. As a result, the get hit by poverty by spreading theirs too thin. They can't even switch to alternative sources of energy (Aida mentions solar early on), but that would break Taboo and have them cut off. That's one of the reasons why the Megafauna was acting as a pirate ship

It's peaceful status quo vs. change with enhanced freedom.
>>
>>12508774
>Because holy sites are places where events from a story involving people doing what God told them took place.
And they probably have a story that the magic people of towasanga told them to do it
>>
>>12508774
>Capital Tower is a fucking bridge, not the site where God appeared to a farmer to deliver a prophecy.

There's a quote from the Salem's Lot miniseries that applies here. "Whoever feeds you is your god." It's all on the importance they place on it.
>>
>>12508789
But people weren't freaking out about having their battery rations cut, they were freaking out about being cursed, which is inexplicably stupid when you consider that they don't believe the tower was provided for them by a supernatural power. We're not talking about Moon Moon where people think technology is magic and only priests are allowed to touch light switches. These people know what batteries and vehicles are and they know that people built the vehicle that brings them the batteries. It's tantamount to people believing that the Society of Automotive Engineers will curse them if they don't follow safety regulations and wear their seatbelts.
Tomino is taking a jab at the bullshit that religions pull, but he's doing it in the most glaringly irrational way.
>>
>>12508754
this was a good douji
>>
>>12508830
Dude, what are these measures there for? To prevent the events of the Universal Century from happening again. The series of wars that facilitated the development of worse and worse weapons. They had to start eating people it was that bad.

The UC is treated like the boogeyman, so what better curse than returning to such an era?
>>
>>12508830
>They were freaking out about being cursed
>It's tantamount to people believing that the Society of Automotive Engineers will curse them
They're the same thing, Anon. They're not being punished 'by' being cursed, the punishment is their curse. They're being excommunicated, or otherwise afflicted with a punishment.

The religious component to the battery supplying refers to it as a curse, but it's not some sort of supernatural "I CURSE YOU TO HELL!" sort of thing. It's: "As a result of your actions you've been cursed, enjoy not having photon batteries you loser."
>>
>>12508830
Some people believed the crazy superstitious shit, others did not. Almost like real life.
>>
>>12508830
>when you consider that they don't believe the tower was provided for them by a supernatural power.
But Bellri and others from their do strongly. Everyone else is just varying degrees of believer

>These people know what batteries and vehicles are and they know that people built the vehicle that brings them the batteries.
And they believe super magic holy people up there make them

Just cause it doesn't fit into a Christian view of religion doesn't stop it being one
>>
>>12508881
Bullshit.
The Crescent ship threatened them with cutting off their battery supply, Bell freaked out about being cursed despite being shown in the first episode to know the actual history of the construction of the tower. He didn't say anything approaching "we'll be denied batteries", he was freaking on a superstitious level despite knowing full well that the system was man-made.
It. Does. Not. Make. Sense.
>>
>>12508925
That's because you don't understand what a 'curse' actually is. To them, having their battery supply cut off translates as being cursed. They're the same thing.

Bellri isn't afraid that some hellspawn boogeyman is going to come and kill him, or drag him away, which is what you seem to think a curse is. You're projecting your understanding of the concept on everything else and assuming it lines up. It doesn't.

I have not watched G-Reco, and from what I have seen, the main complaint seems to be that many people including the Japanese audience, find the story a bit confusing. However, it still looks awesome as all hell and I can't wait to watch it. I really hope it does well financially and critically, because for Tomino to leave Gundam on a sour note, would suck.

It looks MASSIVELY better than AGE, or am I wrong? I have not seen AGE either.
>>
There is nothing wrong with G Reco. People here expecting it to be a children's cartoon don't actually read/write/speak japanese so they take everything Tomino says literally.
>>
>>12508993
AGE was a massive flop. G-Reco was not. Even though G-Reco was far from perfect (something that even Tomino recognizes), it's still a show worth watching.

It's really not a bad show, it just has some problems. Hell, a lot of those problems could probably be fixed with a compilation movie.
>>
>>12508942
cool fanfic.
No, really. Your headcanon makes more sense than what actually happened in the show. That's the problem, though: If I'm having to come to you to make stuff up to explain the wildly inconsistent behavior of tech-saavy grade-skipping superstitious ignoramus then there's something really, really wrong with the writing on this show.
>>
>>12508993
You ever see Yahtzee's review of Dark Souls? He mentions that it tells the backstory by not telling it. G-Reco works in a similar way. It's going to tell you what you need to know, just not going to call attention to it or repeat itself unnecessarily.. And at the end of the day, you're going to have to piece the damn thing together yourself. Things will make more sense on a rewatch with knowledge you picked up from later on in the show.

It's kinda satisfying in a way, to be honest.
>>
>>12509037
Being good at school doesn't preclude you from also being highly superstitious, especially if you are raised in a highly-superstitious society. Welcome to humans.
>>
>>12509037
Except it's not a headcanon, I just pieced the information the show provided together. There is an underlying logic to this show, and once you happen upon it it all starts coming together.

>It. Does. Not. Make. Sense.
About 32% of the world believe in the words of a number of miss-attributed authors that refer an all-powerful zombie despite knowing "full well that the system is man-made". The stone in Mecca is an asteroid.

Being intelligent about one thing doesn't make one necessarily irreligious, though that is more acceptable in some societies than others. In fact, even clearly intelligent people will obfuscate their own means of procuring scientific knowledge to protect that superstition; on at least three occasions, the Israel government has prevented archeological digs in its territories because they knowingly did not the remains of non-human (mostly neaderthal) villages uncovered because that is not particularly in-line with their understanding of their dogma.

If you're suggesting that our world religions are better founded than worshiping a space elevator, you've just grown up in our world and not theirs.
>>
I'll be forever impressed by how Tomino managed to make a whole 26-episode show where the longest conversation in each episode is six lines, with the average being around two to three.
>Look, Bellri!
>What? Oh, a robot!
>Come with us, Bellri.
>Sure! Where am I?!!!! That's a nice structure.
>>
>>12509037
Do you not live in the real world? Do you not see exactly that in your day to day life?

The show does a good job at reminding you that Belli believes in SU-Cordism and at almost every chance he says something vaguely religious when anything concerning it, the tower, the moon, etc comes up.
>>
>>12509207
I found it interesting in the very least.

The dialog structure and how it will just skip things kept drawing me in. Fueled by this need to understand this madness.
>>
>>12508925
The tower is merely an altar to the moon gods. There are still tons of people who think breaking mirrors or going out on Friday the 13th cause bad luck even though mirror's are manufactured by men and Friday the 13th is a manmade concept. Some people are scared of certain floors on skyscrapers and others think that objects can hold spirits of the dead.

Your scope of human behavior is severely limited.

>Fueled by this need to understand this madness.
I'm not sure if it's a method to his madness or a madness to his method.

The Capital Tower also provided them with food, clean water and oxygen, all things essential to life. To the general public at the time of the disaster, the Crown coming down with supplies they desperately need must have looked to them like a gift from God.
>>
I don't understand how people can get so confused at Reconguista.

The Space Pirates are good.

Amerians are clearly "good" but the president clearly has his own agenda. Based Genius Klim isn't interested in world domination like his father.

Capital Army is bad, G-IT is bad, Dorette are bad.

Ten-Police is neutral, then turns good. Capital Guard is good.
>>
>>12508575

This is why so many people are confused by Greco. Its because the plot requires everyone in-universe to be incredibly retarded, but everyone involve acts like this all makes sense for vaguely defined reasons. This leaves a lot of viewers thinking that there is some secret explanation that they are missing, some puzzle piece they don't have that holds the whole thing together. But none exists, its legitimately just really stupid when given any amount of detail.
>>
>>12511106
At least they can prove their thing of worship exists. If you told the people in the RG century that people used to worship something they couldn't see, hear, or touch and no one really knew if he existed or not they'd be the ones calling us retarded.

It's a difference in culture and upbringing.
>>
>>12511106
>the plot requires everyone in-universe to be incredibly retarded
Not really, it is not like SU-Cordism is any different from any religion we got IRL. Its rules are even probably more smart than real religions'.
>>
>>12511115

SU Cordism falls apart the moment someone in the setting decides to use a power source other than photon batteries. Yes, investing in other power sources gets you cut off from Photon Batteries, which leads to an energy crises. But after your new infrastructure is completed, you have already gotten past the worst punishment that the capital tower can inflict on you, and are outside of their control.
>>
>>12511139
No fucking shit. The show does not disagree with you. This is why Aida wants to put solar panels everywhere.
>>
>>12511139

Its also an alarmingly easy to disrupt system. The whole supply chain of photon batteries is heavily reliant on single points of failure. Destroying either the Capital Tower or the Crescent Ship would plunge the entire Earth into darkness. By the time that the Cordists formulated a replacement plan, most of the nations of Earth would already have had to come up with alternative solutions, making the photon batteries no longer a monopoly.

And this is exacerbated by the fact that the photon batteries themselves are wired to catastrophically explode. All it takes is for an idiot or a martyr to get onto one of the things whose sole purpose is the storage and transport of Photon Batteries with a screw driver. Pop the lid on a photon battery, triggering the explosion, and suddenly an entire religion/interplanetary stranglehold goes down in flames.
>>
>>12511166

Yeah. The problem is that I refuse to believe it took humanity 1000 years to realize this. This is shit I figured out within 2 minutes of hearing the premise.

This is the sort of thing that all of the major nations should already be sitting on, secret (or perhaps just "secret") reserves of fusion reactors and solar panels and stuff built in underground factories out of sight from their orbital masters. Waiting for the day the photon batteries stop coming so they can roll out the emergency generators and kickstart controlling their own electric grid again.

SU Cordism isn't just a religion, it is a hard block to technological and societal progress. This makes enemies easily and often, and the weakness of their plan is just too fucking obvious to ignore.
>>
>>12511139
This is assuming they actually have the people with the technical skills to put together a new energy infrastructure while also suffering from the energy crisis. They're so dependent on already existing technology they don't even bother to change security systems from the Universal Standard, allowing anyone to get in anywhere.
>>
>>12511188
I refuse to believe humanity needed Newton to understand gravity. This is shit I figured out within 2 minutes of hearing the first lecture.
>>
>>12511188
For hundreds of years people didn't do shit cause they were scared of angering a guy in a dumb hat who said his magic dad would beat you up

Also jumping from photons batteries to a few windmills and solar panels is a bit of a drop, never mind if they get found out doing so that is the supply of what you need to make them gone

>Amerians are clearly "good" but the president clearly has his own agenda. Based Genius Klim isn't interested in world domination like his father.

Wot

The Taboo worked. This is fact. Earth enjoyed peace for centuries because of the Taboo. Ameria wanted to break that Taboo, overthrow the power the moon people had over the Earth, and give energy to everyone, which we implicitly know will cause war just like it has throughout UC. They most certainly were not good whatsoever. They simply believed in an agenda that sounds fair, but isn't as practical as having the Taboo. Also, Gusion was very clearly not a good guy. In the final episode we learned that he and the president plotted to have a second fleet on Earth, so we retroactively know that he was talking about wiping out the Dorette fleet on Earth using the second fleet.

The reality is that Ameria's ploy to break the Taboo is just a power play so they could gain power. The talk about breaking the Tower's monopoly is just an agenda they filled people's minds with to convince them war was necessary.

The Capital Army literally did nothing wrong. Even with Cumpa's plotting the army never did anything evil other than fight invaders, unless you count breaking the Taboo as evil, in which cause Ameria is also evil. Keep in mind that Ameria invaded the Capital and tried to occupy the Tower by force more than once.
>>
>>12511188
You're fucking retarded m8. Photon batteries are tiny slates that can power MS for like days. Minovsky fusion reactors were large, volatile reactors that required Helium-3, fairly rare near Earth unless they were willing to vaporize the moon.

Solar panels are a fucking joke. They could never replace photon batteries even with an impossible 100% efficiency.
>>
>>12511429

What if they just made photon batteries, but without the explosion trigger?

They are a manmade technology, you can't say it is impossible for non-venusians to figure them out even if they have to research them from scratch.

Why would they though? The people of Earth enjoyed fairly stable lives on Earth. You saw how people were at the tower. They live simple lives and party all the time. The reality is that the Photon Battery situation was never really a problem.

They probably did try to create some new source of energy, given what Aida said about solar panels and exploding photon batteries, but considering the world enjoyed a long period of peace, there isn't much incentive beyond Ameria's "muh monopoly"
>>
>>12511471

So don't dismantle any.

In the past, humans invented photon battery tech without knowing for sure that they would work, and without having an evidence as to how they function. The current generation of humans cannot have any less chance for success than those past humans did, because they have a much better starting position to develop the technology even if all they have to go on is theory and observation. Needing to take photon batteries apart to figure out how they work is pleb tier understanding.

It isn't a question of IF photon battery technology can be replicated, but rather how long it takes and how many accidental explosions happen along the way.

Okay. I know that it is based on bit-based logic gates. Give me the resources of a state-level research team and we can have a Turing Machine in a month. 1960's era computing technology will come a few years after than, and in half a century we will more or less catch up to where we are now.

> Which would literally kill anyone involved and all tech used, basically putting you back to square 1

The first time, when you don't know it is going to explode. After that, you can be damn sure that any prototypes are going to be assembled and tested under the same conditions as nuclear weapons, aka 'not in the middle of a research lab surrounded by your top scientists and all of your notes'

I would make her vag00 go KABOM! She is so damn sexy.

She's a cunt

>and in half a century
half a century to make one shitty computer by even UC standards, and you are proposing a battery that is way beyond even late UC. While also keeping this secret, not blowing up and destroying all the research and getting all the materials that may actually require space shit

That is a very bad plan

> After that, you can be damn sure that any prototypes are going to be assembled and tested under the same conditions as nuclear weapons
Oh that's okay then. After the first lot of people are blown up so all the people who know about it are dead and you get found out they can send another group that will work on it but really far away

Just say it is fireworks, Space Pope will buy that one

Yeah, 50 years is a long time. Earth has been under the thrall of Cordism for more than a thousand years. 50 years is a really reasonable time investment compared to that.
>>
The one thing anon seems to forget is that it's only recently that any nation has had the resources or tech to wage intercontinental warfare. For about 1000 years, people were fully willing to live under SU-Cordism and battery dependance because there was peace. It was only when the Rose of Hermes blueprints were leaked that Ameria sought to expand it's influence and prepare for the arrival of the Dolette fleet.

How would it be if Reco showed signs of being a 00 prequel and Awakening of the Trailblazer showed signs of being a SEED prequel?

And SEED turned into Gundam X/

That's 50 years of trying to keep that secret, hoping your government not only keeps funding the project, that the government even stays long enough (could be hundreds of years), dealing with the very definite chance one will blow up and all the problems that createsand also assumes you even can with the technology they have

> it is not like SU-Cordism is any different from any religion we got IRL

SU cordism is an excuse to have a space pope, we barely know anything about it other than muh taboos muh holy ship.
>>
>>12513875
on what foundation is it really worshipped as a religion? just because some people give other people batteries?

we are never told or shown this in the unfleshed world.

Like more than half the stuff on greco.

>he don't know cargo cult
Tomino really should stop writing fiction.

Sophisticated modern audience can not connect real life concept like realpolitiek or cargo cult to a fictional universe. We need more story like animal farm where the antagonist (humans) and traitor (snowball) clearly defined.
