Hey there. I'm back. I'll be scanning more Area 88 sometime soon, so here's a thread. This next batch is the last of the original Viz comic run, before it moved to Animerica for a couple of years.
If you want to help clean these scans, you can email me.
Original editor here; I've fixed the problem with my monitor's colors, but I've got uni shit from now until May that's going to eat all my time. If someone else wants to jump on these before then go ahead; I'll be back by then if nobody's here.
Because military technical jergon out of the ass, and according to what I've seen on various places, including /a/ looking up things that aren't "aaah" and "oooh" and "cum inside my nipples" seems to be hard.
Making em super-duper-bw-contrast is bad on my tastes. I like a touch of grey and some texture sharpness in my old manga. Do you, gais, like it, shall I go on like that and contact the OP?
This one thing >>12459484.
Also I wouldn't bother with cleaning the Viz chapters, IIRC even the OP said that it's best to just clean the tanks and put the Viz translation on those, while keeping psds or whatever while waiting for a translator to pop up and eventually just change the text.
Still, I made it. Please, compare. No need to hurry, it's best for best quality. I will experiment more.
Same details, but I guess, people like more contrast. I will wait for the original editor-kun. If he tells me what to do, I will start.
If you dig in the previous threads you can find the "preliminary" version of his scans. Look in the archive, use the subject field. If you want a more immediate answer you could try to holla OP on /a/ I guess.
They send SS troops to you if you use scans of their books? If I will place them on nyaa via VPN, i'm doomed because they have their men everywhere, right?
I just don't know, man.
I don't know, I don't really care, I thought the whole point of this project was:
1. providing high quality scans of the tankobon releases with the Viz translation on them (since the Viz releases are mirrored garbage and the already existing scans are of bad quality and also incomplete)
and, _IF_ possible
2. having someone that is good at moonspeak check the Viz translations for inaccuracies and such, and eventually fixing them, and then putting those on the tank scans.
The first part is totally feasible. It seems our boys are at a dead spot with the second one. Nobody seems to be willing to work on it for a reason or another.
It's too bad that people that aren't EOPs but still don't know japanese or any asian laguages don't have alternatives either.
Thank you. It's kind of a shame that to my knowledge there are no french/italian/spanish translations, otherwise I could have at least tried to help the project in a meaningful way.
Does anyone have a copy of the Area 88 - Mission Fuga album with a working copy of track 16, Angel's Theme (G-Aria)? This is what I have...
Kikaider 02, Captain Harlock, Five Star Stories, etc.
So I'm reading the first chapters, and the cleanup job is baaad. Not on the levels of the old "Hikaru" scans, but bad nonetheless.
>SUPER DUPER BW
>bad downscaling resulting in artifacts like aliasing
Just take a look at this shit.
Jesus Christ on a stick, they ARE the Hikaru shit. I thought you guys already rescanned the early chapters.
Translated ones? I don't recall the exact number, maybe 20-ish, assuming they didn't butcher it? IIRC OP posted about it in the past. Bakaupdates states it's 6 volumes.
In total? 171, according to the last chapters translated scripts.
My question is though, when does the Tigershark show up, and why was the Draken completely omitted from every adaption?
I read the wiki page and trope page that at some point Shin flies
an X-29. I wonder in which chapter he flies that and whether or not he is just testing it or it become his personal plane.
I remember him flying that to Area88 when he comes back to base after long absence, towards the end of series.
That was his second last plane. He doesn't get shot down though, just runs out of fuel.
Oh man I miss these comics I had in Japan. Had all of them, but had to throw them away since the school didn't allow me
at least in the OVA version, yes, it is IMPLIED that Shin dies (or flying toward his possible death) at the end judging by the state of the Area 88 mercenaries being severely outnumbered. The outcome isn't shown. Hopefully in the manga, he survived the whole series
