It's probably the use of CGI you're seeing, but it's a huge improvement over the prequels. Personally I'd like to see a resurgence of practical effects but god knows that isn't going to happen.

BB-8 has some smudges on him, and I can't recall many instances in the films when stormtroopers were anything but a clean basic white.

Or chalk it up to a lot of return concept artists from the PT like Doug Chiang who favor more sleek designs.

Go look at the opening scene of A New Hope, and realize the Tantive IV interior is basically iPod themed. Shiny surfaces, slick white plastic, glassy screens. It's always been there.

I wasn't really a fan of the helmet when we first saw it, but the full package is alright.
Just hope we get a bunch of interesting new designs as well as the rehashes of the classics. The prequels were terrible films but they had a lot of interesting ship/droid/creature/costume/world design

That's really not that farfetched either, since Stormtroopers probably have a lot of time to brush up their uniforms and an expectation to do so. Militaries can be pretty anal about having uniforms be neat and tidy, and it's beaten into soldiers from the get-go (at least in America).

Of course there are obvious exceptions. You can only keep your uniform so tidy when you're in a desert.

Clone Trooper armor seemed more like actual combat wear. But this stormtrooper armor seems really bare in comparison (mainly only small blaster and no pronounced pouches) and could be more comparable to police-wear?

Here's hoping that we see some more militarized stormtrooper armor when we reach the climax.

It's a filter they're using that seems to blur out a lot of the details. Could be intentional to help the practical blend in with the CG but I don't like it much.
