Did anyone else notice that Mask didn't really want to kill Bellri? In episode 11, when Mask lures Bellri out of the G-Self's cockpitt and shoots himi with the grappling gun, he notes that if that had been a real gun, he would have died? I wonder if that had been the original plan, but he couldn't bring himself to do it?

After all, despite all his bluster and hot air, Luin was from an age of peace just like anyone else that had gotten involved in the war. Luin just wasn't ready to kill a human being face-to-face, the only reason he had been able to kill people until now was because MS combat made battles a lot more impersonal.

He wrecked the G-Self in a grunt-tier suit

On top of being an extremely entertaining character, he's great because of what he represents. I think he was very well-written, and at the very least his role in the show was a great success on Tomino's part.

The other VG suits, Gastima, Masraster, Trinity, Dahack can all fly completely fine in the atmosphere with a bulky and vulnerable shoulder binder containing a minovsky flight system. They also have an abundance of weapons. The Kabakali has a rifle, beam sabers in the hands, and those wire guided chakrams. Even the chakrams are less advanced than the other VG funnels we've seen, they have to be guided by the Kabakali's arms.

Mask had a solid two seconds to shoot and kill Bellri right before the bird hit the Kabakali, but didn't.

And later on he only aims at the G-Self's head and does non-vital damage even though he could have used the hand sabers at any point during their grapple but stops using it after he destroys the G-Self's shield.

I think it's pretty clear Mask didn't want to kill Bellri either, he wanted to cripple the G-Self. Btw, in the cave Bellri says something like, "I can't just destroy his weapons", so he probably had the same mindset as Mask

He called a lucky punk who got handed a Gendum out on being a privileged shitter who didn't actually earn his good fortune. That alone makes him one of the best Char clones, since most don't strike right at the core of why their rival wasn't space paste in 10 seconds flat.

The fact that he actually gets MORE AWESOME when the mask comes off just goes to show that he's practically holding back by letting himself act like a raging asshole.
