Redesign almost all the Kill-T-Gang forms. Most were way too humanoid
No Salty dogs
Cut the MotW Kill-T-Gang intro
Have the Machine Goodfellows getting Earth based fights from the beginning, but not in a MotW style that the show did
Have them go to space by the halfway point of the series. This introduces the Kill-T-Gang forms
Have more than half an episode to lead up to the Planetary Gears and Midsummer's Knights team up
Actually give the Planetary Gears more than a one note personality with actual screentime.
Cut that "she'll never leave this ship again" shit

This is too depressing to hear. I mean come on, it had the voice cast at least. 1277/1277 is like a slap in the face.
>>
>>12273913

Its actually really easy. Captain Earth was good most of the way, it just durdled around a bit too much, and because of wasted time failed to stick the landing. The designs were cool and the characters were fun, but they ultimately failed to bring what they had to a satisfying conclusion.

All Captain Earth needed to be great was an editor.

Personally, I would make the following changes:
- Cut the Red kiltgang entirely. He didn't do anything, and his backstory was one of the weakest of the bunch. He basically just existed to job, and that's a bad excuse for a villain. There were enough other Kiltgang that he was not needed. Cutting him nets us an episode.
- Reduce the among of Salty Dog screentime, especially after the halfway mark of the show. They served a role, but by the last third of the show it was already an established fact that Salty Dog was not even the second greatest threat in the show, and they still got like 3 episodes worth of content in a row. Just give them ONE late game power play to try to carry out the ark plan, and call it a day. This gets us 2-3 episodes, depending on content.
- For the moment, leave Teppei's Dad in on the assumption that he can be brought back for a satisfying use of some kind. Otherwise cut his episode too, but I am hesitant to because his episode was the first to give us a real peek into the space station and explain the ark plan.
- make the 'hyperspace makes you trip balls' episode only half an episode, OR give us mindtrips for Akari too.
>>
>>12274240
I read it was good but >>12274266 seems it didn't sell well.
>>
>>12275191
So we just freed up 3-5 episodes of a 24 episode show. What to do with them?

Give use more screentime with the Kiltgang human forms after they get recruited. Too many of the Kiltgang we see get their own episode and then basically don't show up again until the finale. Take a cue from Star Driver on making the antagonist faction fun to be around. The Kiltgang are alien world eaters that have spent the last 14 years living as their own food, thats an interesting situation to have a bunch of different perspectives on. Even in the show we got, there are a lot of hints early on that not all of the Kiltgang are as onboard with this plan to eat Earth as they once were. It almost looked liked Baku and Siren were going to try and call off the whole thing/turn traitor on the other Kiltgang, but we never got a payoff on that. Explore that angle a bit.

Rework Puck's final plan, or at least set it up better. It was really obvious that Puck was the real final boss from early in the series, and he had a plan of some kind, but the way that plan was actually revealed and implemented was really asspully and unsatisfying.

While not a huge deal, I was SUPER disappointed that we didn't get at least one fight where they had to use parts from different Engines to cobble together a mix-and-match mecha to deploy something for a fight after the Engines got wrecked. Seems like a pretty simple change to make to one of the battles.
>>
>>12275191
>There were enough other Kiltgang that he was not needed.
Given their numbers and being called "planetary gears", I always assumed each represented a planet.

Come to think of it, it doesn't really make much sense as they're probably not even from this solar system.
>>
>>12275260

I think that, ideally, the Midsummer Knights should succeed in defeating the Kiltgang in space and destroying the cocoon, crippling the Kiltgang space forms. Then Puck hacks into that thing that they were building to let Hana control the Blume remotely, the one that "didn't work". Puck takes control of the Blume remotely, trapping Hana inside, and sets course with it for Earth to use it to absorb the Libido of Earth and charge up the ship for his own uses. As long as he is on the ship, Puck will live forever and can explore the galaxy as he sees fit. Puck convinces the defeated Kiltgang that he can use the Blume to build them new Ego Blocks once it is charged up to full power using Hana, all they have to do is submit to his service.

This splits the Kiltgang, as some now want to avert the feeding and the others are willing to do it to survive at any cost.

This splits the battle into two fronts. Daichi stays in space with the Earth Engine to stall the Blume and rescue Hana. Teppei takes Akari and heads down to Earth with Nebula Ordinary to attack Macbeth HQ and shut down Puck from the source, hoping that they can shut down his control of the Blume from there. Space fight and ground fight go on more or less at the same time. Akari gets let out of Teppei's robot and probably does something clever involving computers to piss off Puck at some point. Teppei sacrifices himself to bring down Amarok (who refuses to quit) for good. Because SOMEONE has to die after all of the death flags we had in this goddamn show.

Earth Puck gets blown up, but Space Puck isn't stopped by it because separate copy. Daichi does his waifu rescue, saves the day, it is ambiguous whether or not they survive but get revealed to have crash landed elsewhere on earth.
Kube Puck is seen limping away from the battlefield, making plans for how this is not the end. He gets shot and killed by Teppei's dad, cleaning up the situation/ his secretary betrays him, I'm not sure which is better.
>>
>>12273913
The Engines besides the Earth one will be used more often.

The Kiltgang would be more competent regardless of form.

There will be more injuries and death; not for edge-sake, but for necessary tension.
>>
>>12273913
Everyone has sex at least once.
Didn't see much libido in a series about the damn concept. Except for the (literally) fucking AI
>>
>>12273913
Drop the libido thing or go full casual sex and have a few of them be canon bi.

Make the captain earth mech unique and make it so that the others look and fuction differently.

The characters all stay the course.

The Kiltgang should be given a bit more to do outside of get bitch slapped while riding around in space mechs.

Ditch the earth will be eaten by space aliens silliness and replace it with earth is doomed and the space aliens have come here to make sure that entity that has existed on the other side of the moon in the dark for millenia and lived off of and grew from the life and drive of the earthlings matures.

The ego block thing is kinda..silly. Have it so that they are in fact crystal or energy beings and grew their bodies so they can live among the humans without being burned out by their excess psionic energies.

The earth defense force mechs are all unique in look and function.

Only cap and the former kilgang kid have mechs, hana and hacker girl are the back up with hana being the heavy in the form of a sentient ship.

Oh, hana is the quantum ai of the kiltgangs star cruiser. It created the organic body as a failsafe and was forced to use it after it crashed on the earth. She's been amnesiac but has an amazing gift for navigation and astronomy and a wide variety of subjects while remaining completely innocent as far as people and human society goes.

Each of the Kiltgang represent a different form of "emotional energy". One they harness for their own power and ability. Kind of....power rangers/motw but thematically it would work and be more powerful then something as utterly meaningless as throwing around the world libido over and over again with no one being even the least bit sexual outside of a fucking robot.

And the guns are now the alien life forms attempt to interact with humanity and protect itself from the kitgang and them from themselves. Have the guns actually been explained? Like..at all?

Expanded to 40~50 episodes and most everyone has or had sex.

Hanna and Teppei were individually and repeatedly raped and abused prior to the series start as part of Salty Dog's crude attempt to unlock and build up their Libido powers.

Teppei later takes Akari's innocence after one too many belly-button dances early on. Tsutomu is too busy/dense to realize his daughter's relationship change with Teppei until near the end, upon which he gives Teppei a hard time.

Related, Teppei's dad reappears a few times to aid Teppei and give him additional dating/intimacy tips.

Hanna makes Daichi a man around 1/3rd to one-half of the way in after the necessary development, and become regular lovers.

Amara and Moco are of course lovers and partners, having found early on that human-style intimacy allowed them temporary access to their powers, though scaled down and limited.

Ai was your stereotypical idol-used-by-her-manager-fucktoy until she awakened, and later raped (for a quick and temporary power up) and subsequently killed a number of those men she had formerly suffered under.

Zin, after awakening, later decided to take the girl from his past as his pet (more slave). It's later revealed they're in something of a twisted master-servant relationship; she idiotically blames herself for his troubles and lets him use her, and he treats her with alternating bouts of kindness and roughness; the remnant kindness being from his human side and the roughness being from his Kiltgang side and pent up bitterness. While he doesn't hesitate to kill humans (including the ones who used him), he doesn't kill his pet, despite occasionally threatening to do so.

Lin is similar to Aoi (from Dancouga Nova); except it's shown she has had a bed partner or two she's used then kicked out, between chasing the next speed thrill.

Baku became a monk after Kumiko's death. Not even an offer from Ai or Lin would tempt him.

Setsuna may or may not have been used by Mao.

Those really don't fit with the tone of the show.

That said, I like the other ideas. Particularly the two-front earth/space battle.
>>
>>12273913
This is easy, cut out Salty Dog bullshit, that plot was so pointlessly stupid I get a headache thinking about it. I mean really, Salty Dog's whole goal is to fuck Midsummer's Knights and let the Earth get fucked by space vampires since they have a space colony ready for when it happens. How about you let Midsummer's Knights fight and try to stop the Kill-T-Gang and not skip to the end of your dumbass plot as if the Earth is doomed regardless.

Also change Kill-T-Gang, make them like Baku in which they had a story to tell and weren't one note pure evil like Zin. I mean Zin was just evil for the sake of evil. Baku and Setsuna were the only decently written Kill-T-Gang and they were barely used. Keep Ai as a filthy whore though, that was kind of amusing for me and my dick.
>>
>>12277084
>Nobody gave half a shit about the mystery in either show until there was some clarity as to what the endgame was.
Objectively incorrect. There were/are alot of people who found both settings and characters compelling, and wanted to know what was going to happen, and spent time discussing and speculating about what they meant and what might happen. Because watching a show where you know everything that is going to happen cause it's all been spelled out already is boring.
>>
>>12277091

Well, the first was because the show kept shoving really obvious death flags in our face. It honestly felt REALLY cheap that Teppei exiled himself and returned to the battlefield to dodge the plasma blast, which only retroactively became justifiable because that was the setup to the personal FTL they used in the last few episodes.

Also, Teppei giving up his immortality and dooming himself to a mortal existence rather than living forever lacks weight when that doesn't mean anything in the context of the story. Him sacrificing himself in a permanent death to end the conflict plays well into the whole psychology of the kiltgang (and his rejection of it) and would have a HUGE emotional impact on the surviving Kiltgang, especially if none of them have actually died in the fight up until now. I could easily see Albion and Amarok going up in the same explosion causing the remaining Kiltgang on both sides to stop fighting immediately purely out of shock.

And lets face it, Amarok is painted very much as someone who is not going to give up on this. He wants to harvest the earth more than anyone else in the planetary gears, even their leader. It is hard to imagine him surrendering to live out the remainder of his days as a human.

Likewise, something has to be done about PucKube. As long as he exists, Puck is not out of the game. Teppei's dad doing something about it would mean that Teppei's dad actually did SOMETHING, even if it is kind of an asspull. The secretary betraying him in some way is probably more emotionally satisfying, though, because she gets a lot of screen time but basically just vanishes after PucKube turns into a manwhore. I always assumed she was going to be the weak link that lead to PucKubes downfall, but she never came back.
>>
>>12277118
> Salty Dog's whole goal is to fuck Midsummer's Knights and let the Earth get fucked by space vampires since they have a space colony ready for when it happens. How about you let Midsummer's Knights fight and try to stop the Kill-T-Gang and not skip to the end of your dumbass plot as if the Earth is doomed regardless.

Not entirely true.

Salty Dog didn't want the Earth to get eaten by space vampires any more than anyone else, though there were those in the leadership like Kube that planned to use the ark to only preserve the 'chosen elite' for their own god complex benefit.

The reason that Salty Dog started to aggressively fight the MKs later in the show was because their plans had become mutually exclusive. If the Midsummer Knights take the Blume to fight the Killtgang and fail, there IS no ark plan. The Ark plan depends on using the Blume to get away from Earth during the time of the libido harvest, if the MKs take it to Oberon and get it blown up/captured in a direct attack, there is nothing any human can do to prevent the total extinction of the human race. There will be no colony, no survivors.

Really, the ark factions plans make perfect sense, as long as you buy into the same idea that they did which is that the Kiltgang winning eventually by attrition is almost inevitable. They got damn close more than once, like that whole week and a half where the Kiltgang nearly attacked while there were no functional Engines capable of engaging them, much less stopping them.

The par that doesn't make sense is why Globe never just told the Ark faction that Earth was going to be totally ruined after the harvest. Ark Faction planned on returning to Earth to resettle after the Kiltgang took what they wanted and left. they assumed that the humans would die, but the planet could be re-used after. Proving that was NOT the case would have taken a hell of a lot of wind out of their sails, but Globe never did it even when Salty Dog turned into a recurring enemy.

WIthout a good anime to create interest for the characters and inspire doujin creators then the doujins won't come.
I don't even think their VAs were popular.

It's the equivalent of using a generic random fap pic from someone else. Using your own art and inspiration is a lot better from a creative standpoint and safer from a financial standpoint.

CE's plot suffered more from rushed threads rather than taking it to a full 50 or so episodes to give them the proper time to fully flesh out everything and play the mystery/obscure alliances angle better.

G-Reko however, just has too many unnecessary characters being focused on, thus convoluting the plot threads unnecessarily.

>>12276644
In a story with Libido powers, you'd expect that both sides would have a few using sex as the easiest way to build up some.
>>
>>12277436

Only because you don't understand what Libido means in this context. It isn't sex related in any way. They are using Libido in the Jungian context:

According to Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung, the libido is identified as *psychic energy* [emphasis mine]. Duality (opposition) that creates the energy (or libido) of the psyche, which Jung asserts expresses itself only through symbols: "It is the energy that manifests itself in the life process and is perceived subjectively as striving and desire."

So they are using Libido to mean Psychic Energy, that which the Kiltgang feed off of.

They used this exact same terminology in Star Driver for the same thing.

I think you're mistaking
>What the hell is even going on?
with
>Wow, I can't wait to find out what's going on?

And that's not even getting into the fact, THE FACT, that G-Reco's plot isn't supposed to be illusive and mysterious.
It's straight forward as shit.
The only mysteries relate back to Cuumpa and where the photon batteries originate.

That has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the miasma of factions and their alignments, that barely matter for the bigger picture.

Except in stardriver they were highly sexual as well.
In this instance..without what you are just saying being common knowledge or it being explained as such to the audience it is just misapplied and kind of takes people out of the experience.
>>
>>12277620
They're written by Enokido, the first thing you should think of is Jung.
Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with a show not explaining certain aspects of itself and leaving it up to interpretation, which is another common quality in his writing.
>>
>>12277620

Honestly, given that they have done this same thing in more than one show at this point? I am just presuming that the word Libido has different connotations to the Japanese than it does to us, if the average viewer is familiar with the word at all.
>>
>>12277620
>without what you are just saying being common knowledge
It's common enough knowledge that you could just google "orgone energy" after it was mentioned in the show, and find all the information you need.

G-reco is twice as rushed as CE. The show goes at light speed and almost never takes time to dwell on its most important points, instead focusing on irrelevant characters like Raraiya, Noredo, Ringo while also wasting time with segments like "hey look guys in space things seem smaller than what they really are."
>>

A lot of idiots were confused because the show introduced terms without immediately explaining them.

>Amara gets out of a pod
>BOY I SURE LOVE THESE [MACHINE GOODFELLOWS]
>what the fuck is a machine goodfellow? help i cannot understand context

>WE FOUND THIS GIRL IN A GIANT SPACESHIP UNDERGROUND BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE IT CAME FROM
>SHE (HANA) IS THE [PRINCESS OF BLUME]
>what the fuck is a blume? help i can't remember dialogue from last episode

>WE'RE GOING TO EAT ALL YOUR LIBIDO
>THESE ROBOTS ARE POWERED BY ORGONE ENERGY
>what the fuck is orgone energy? how can you eat sex drive? help i'm a dipshit incapable of googling wilhelm reich

Some people just can't wait for a term to be explained in later episodes, put two and two together, or do their own research. They need everything spelled out for them regardless of how retarded it makes a scene; the earlier Machine Goodfellow questions are answered when Amara goes on a little exposition spree to MOCO, SOMEONE WITH THE SAME BACKGROUND, TRAINING, AND PAST EXPERIENCE WITH THE DEVICES AS HIM.

Basically people are dumb

I think it has more to do with the fact that in Captain Earth every single thing and person has 5 codenames and 8 synonyms.

I have to admire the balls on some writers, that they think that that people would automatically be so invested in the series that they memorize them all.

But hey who knows, if CE had been a better show I might have.
>>
>>12278094
It really comes back to bite the show in the ass, whenever it tries to be dramatic.
Of all the characters in the show, I only feel like we really know Aida and Bellri.
And even they are painted with the broadest strokes and don't really have much in the way of memorable character moments.
The only emotion I felt so far is bemusement at Bellri's siscon fueled rampages.

Needing to fucking google wilhelm reich, as if the average viewer fucking knows or cares, is basically a major reason why this show bombed and fucking bombed huge. Stop being such a pretentious faggot.
Them name dropping the ideas of dead philosophers without having the common sense to realize that their ideals are viewed differently in the audience is the height of masturbation.
The absolute WORST thing you can fucking do in any piece of media like this is make it for yourself and make a major part of it an idea or in joke that you or only a few people will get or even worse think is interesting or entertaining.

I'm just glad it sold at all. I feel like this series took some real chances and had ambition with the lack of proper time to execute it. Not many mech or otherwise genres do that too often.
>>
>>12282196

And it could have worked. Captain Earth just needed to have been a little more tightly planned ahead of time, and maybe have an editor onboard, and it would have been the best show of its season. They had all of the right parts, they just misused their airtime like giving Salty Dog so much goddamn screentime so close to the end of the show and then rushing the REAL final conflict so much that the Kiltgang barely felt relevant to their own show at the end.
>>
Sup, wasted potential

>>
>>12273679
Stop it, Yamakan

>>
>>12282269
Indeed. It suffers in the same way Escaflowne suffered. Too much plot and not enough budget to see the ideas through, causing them to scale certain aspects down when clearly they were meant to have more elaboration. One thing I can say is that whoever directed and produced did a better job giving the characters life than some of the below tier mech shows we've experienced.

It was literally just a blander version pf Star Driver. It didn't have any ambition and teh story was so mind-numbingly simple that you have to wonder how it even got approved.

The only way star driver was bad was if you don't appreciate monster of the week format. I feel like people always wanted more from that show then what it was actually selling on /m/.

>>12282759

I actually really liked the team dynamic of the Midsummer Knights. Daichi being pro-active without being a shonen idiot, and the raging bromance he had with Teppei. Teppei, meanwhile, takes one for the team and plays the brooding angsty hero for the first half so that Daichi doesn't have to, and his reasons for brooding are pretty damn legitimate. Hana was boring as mud at first, until you realize that she was only pretending to be retarded and that she is OP plz nerf. Akari was the weakest of the four, but she had enough going on and her own gimmicks that she never felt like she was just a background character to the other 3. In almost any other show, Akari would have been exceptional.

This. Their camraderie was comfy as fuck and a breath of fresh air for the mech genre as a whole. They were a team, that worked well together. The only criticism one could have is that they did not have enough time to build up their relationship as much as they could. Same goes for the Kiltgang, but again due to buget constraints they ended up telling a pretty strong story nonetheless.
>>
>>12282911
>Hana was boring as mud at first, until you realize that she was only pretending to be retarded and that she is OP plz nerf.
She reminded me of Nia from gurren alittle in the way that she wasn't just a damsel in distress, but someone who helped to build daichi up and could actively fight for herself.

Literally every name in the show that isn't related to Reich's crazy orgone stuff (and most of the Kiltgang) is a Shakespeare reference. All those extra terms are just there to facilitate that tortured joke.

>Midsummer's (K)Night
>Globe
>Puck
>Robin Goodfellow
>Oberon
>Macbeth Enterprises
>last names
>Salty Dog

If CE had done better, you can bet that'd be lauded as OHSODEEP the way half the shit in Evangelion is.
>>
>>12283642
I was kinda bummed they didn't do more with the Shakespeare stuff, on the other hand this show needed less, not more.
>>

The Shakespeare references made it easier to keep track of everything, since so many of the names are familiar.

But then, I suppose I shouldn't expect /m/ to be familiar with Shakespeare.
