Well, Mamoru defends the scumbag called Hazard Pasha because he carries a Nuclear missile on the plane he's in and when the plane blows up, the whole Tatsumiya Island will blow up too. Sakomizu wants to destory him and even call him a vile filth for using a mere child as a shield (He mistakenly think that Mamoru was Hazard's soldier). So Mamoru has to stop Sakomizu in which Hazard decides to destory both of them in one shot. Sakomizu survives but Mamoru was killed.

Given he has the Makabe factor, he might be able to handle it for a short time, before it backfires and attempts to consume him, forcing Kazuki to save his ass. Especially since the Indian Mir doesn't have a controller who can regulate the power the way Orihime can with the Island cores.

He did say he'd try testing it out at the risk of his own life, and did want his own super-Fafner; so it's more likely he'll attempt something stupid and try to be the UN equivalent. I personally expect that it might work out for awhile, be the UN hero they need, only for him to fail at the critical moment forcing Kazuki to save him.

It's less-likely but equally possible that he could try jacking Sein, maybe even be able to control it for a short time in a non-combat situation due to having the Makabe factor, only for it to fail or start attempting to assimilate him until Kazuki directly orders Sein to return to him and spare Johnathan, in exchange for a bit more of his lifespan.

Nah, I'm just exaggerating considering her relationship with Tsubaki/Orihime.
Really, though she acts more like a mother to Orihime (and not in a nofunallowed way like Yumiko).

I'd have to pay this a rewatch (and I'm planning to once this cour ends) so I can see if I overlooked anything important. I was rewatching the original series and the OVA just now and something just occured to me that didn't the first time. that girl that dies in the first episode, the one witht he glasses that was to be the original pilot always seemed like this weak character, but rewatching the OVA I can't help but notice that she was probably a pretty great and brave pilot. Such a shame we never got to see her fight.

I suspect this is a deliberate contrast to how Kazuki gets hot-blooded and yells a lot in battle.

Also, I really like the Diablo types and the new super Festum from this episode. It's really cool to see the Festum start to develop into types that mimic humans and Fafners. The Diablo feels very Titan Model-esque in its design (mainly in the hands). I wonder if we'll see Nothung Model based Festum later. They've already started mimicking the Nothung Model's weapons after all.

It does really bear a a lot of similarities to a Fafner.

It's got that kinda off-set, interlocking abdomen like the Fafner's have. And it's a lot more spindly like them too.

I personally like how they're improving their tactics. The Festum, I mean. They're deliberately playing on the fact that humans will be averse to shooting their own kind. And even going for more direct methods of Assimilation than just latching onto the machines.

I'm hella bothered by the fact that Soushi doesn't seem much affected by Kazuki having just three more years to live, and now after piloting Sein, it's going to be even less. I mean, look at Maya. She seemed devastated but Soushi is just meh.

I know it's implied that he got into research to find a cure for Kazuki but he doesn't show any emotions in this regard and it's pissing me off.

I agree, it's like he's too stoic about it. They've always been like that--Kazuki gets really fired up when Soushi is in trouble but Soushi is more calm in regards to Kazuki. I do think he cares about Kazuki but he needs to show it more. Not in a shipping way, just in a "hey you're my best friend who's gone through a lot of shit for me and I care about you way."

I actually thought the beach scene felt pretty natural, and I think stuff like teasing Kazuki there and reassuring him about the NUNs' situation is his way of showing he cares. He's just shitty at showing it other times.

Which makes sense, they work really well together (probably helped by the fact that they were in a state of very frequent crossing for two years). I hope this doesn't happen because it seems like it would hamper his character development, and also because there's been a lot of drama about saving him from the Festum already. In the words of an anon from the last thread, he's used up his plot points in that department.

I also feel like Maya needs some more character development in regards to her issues about protecting people, so hopefully she can deal with the Yumiko thing and come out alive. Plus Kazuki has known Maya for so long he probably depends on her to some extent, and Soushi has some sort of thing for her, so shit's really gonna start tumbling down if she dies.

So, in a best-case scenario where Exodus does well and gets more people into Fafner, how would you guys feel about a movie series remake of S1? I was rewatching the later episodes and thought it could be done pretty well, would love to see the fights with better animation and first 11 episodes written by Ubukata. Will almost certainly never happen but it's fun to think about.

Just rewatched everything before Exodus started though, and parts of it do feel a little strange, just by virtue of being a prequel. Like the Titan models being around so soon before the series started, or none of the characters getting mentioned even when listing off people who "left the island".

No way around it when it was written after the fact, though, and it still adds a lot to the background for the franchise.

Things like Kazuki not having the abnormal strength he had before and or if he had episodic fits that require him to be hospitalized. I imagined an assimilation death to only have side effects during minutes before a death. Don't remember any pilots in the OVA who had side effects due to the assimilation. Well they all had the psychological effect of them gradually losing one by one. Basically, it hits hard and fast.

The more you pilot, the shorter your life. Canon joined late so she would live longer. Kenji has more hours on-job compared to Sakura. Overall, their lives should truly last longer than the current adults. Then again, that is just my assumption.
