If you ask me if District 9 & Elysium are subtle, no they aren't.
However they are packed with lot of details that people will miss; mostly if they think its a Hollywood movie where lazy author make 3 hours movies about a single ideas and fill up the rest. (not that single minded movie are a bad thing, but they can be)

In any case I'll watch this movie because (1) it have robot (2) not shitty robot (3) I like the 3D-to-Live integration from the director, I was stunned by the Prawn and wished for an entire movie with Elysium's robot as a plot point.

NB has an interesting way of taking a retreaded idea, then taking it to levels that make it feel original.

"District 9" was "Alien Nation" on steroids.
"Elysium" felt a bit like Logan's run with some gritty shit and Based Kruger.
"Chappie" is starting to feel like "Short Circuit" taken in a really rough direction.
