Even most bad mecha can be enertaining but Captain earth is a whole different level of garbage.

I waited literally every episode for this shit to get going because I liked the main mech and you're saying I haven't seen it.

It's better than that other guy who makes the same Valvrave shit posts over and over. Positivity is nice sometimes.

Captain Earth was really bad.
Everything wrong with modern anime, the awful mannerisms of the characters being the most prominent issue.

At least it was pretty.
>>

I liked it too. Not perfect, but still excellent. One of the best shows of the year.

Pay no mind to the shitposter.

You certainly haven't truly watched it if you think nothing happened over those 25 episodes. You're probably the same kind of person who thinks Cloud Atlas is hard to follow because no Michael Bay explosions 24/7.

I thought it was Bone's best mecha show in years. Well done except for a few miss steps like Salty dog.

That said I realize it's an extreme minority opinion.

Positivity is one thing
'EVERY DAY UNTIL YOU LIKE IT' is another entirely.

People bitch endlessly about how Captain Earth is "boring" just because they can't stand a show with a focus on plot over action. So then 00 gets praised for having a lot of action even though its plot is complete nonsensical garbage and that means the action is shit too because it's all for the dumbest reasons ever. On top of not being that well done in the first place, but oh man, there's a ton of it, so apparently it's great!

00 fans have ruined this board.

I thought it was basically a more boring version of Star Driver. They kept throwing around all these high-concept terms, and the sheer weight of terminology gets boring after a while.

More, no-one actually got killed, and the final boss was barely animated. He just hovered around and spouted dialogue. This show just felt amazingly clumsy, for want of a better word: It's not bad by itself, but it has the problem of coming after Star Driver. Which did all the stuff with less clutter.
>>
>>11754736
Felt like it went nowhere.
>>
>>11754736
>Which did all the stuff with less clutter.
Pfffffhahahahaahahahahaahahahaha
>>
>>11754736
>the sheer weight of terminology

You mean the extremely easy to understand terminology that they made a point of explaining clearly in case there was anyone who was too dumb to understand it based on context? Yeah man, must be tough.
>>
>>11754781

Don't knock it, it's true. Star Driver had like five phrases you had to remember. ('Approvise', 'Cybody', 'Samekh' and 'Cybercasket'. Later, 'Samekh'.) Captain Earth had a whole goddamn lexicon.

I still don't know what 'Neoteny' means.
>>
Bones.
>>
>>11750031
>ITT: Wasted potential
FTFY. It wasn't in any way a bad show, but it wasn't stellar either. It had a great setting, awesome designs and some cool characters, but the plot itself was really generic, and the pacing was all over the place.

Also, the battles were predictable as fuck - every time an Impacter fought a Killtgang there was a few minutes of the Impacters jobbing, and then winning through some asspull. Though at least the final fight was cool.
>>
>>11754798
How can an asspull be predictable?
>>
>>11751007
>Captain Earth will never be the big heavy hitting brawler that it appears to be

Seriously, fuck them for making that thing out of paper
>>
>>11754805
I assume when something is so stupid and contrived yet predictable of bad writing at the same time.
>>
>>11754787
Then you're a fool. All Neoteny meant was "the special people who could use the Livlasters". And then the Livlasters were just the gun things they used to pilot their robots.

I suppose it's easy for an idiot to get confused by the way they nested it, but every single piece of terminology in CE could be explained with a few simple words.

Why? The blue-haired guy is explicitly alive at the end of the show. They literally say "Yeah, he stepped out." and it's not an euphenism, because his charred corpse would be lying in the pod if he was dead.
>>
>>11755037
I wasn't talking about Amarok
>>
>>11754787

A Neoteny is a juvenile that displays one or more properties usually reserved for an adult.

Like a tadpole that has legs.

From the perspective of a Kiltgang humans (which are supposed to be nothing more than food) wielding the power of the livlaster are special exceptions making use of a level of power that should be beyond their class of being.
>>
>MJP

Ewww Hirai face.
>>
How would I fix Captain Earth? Quite simply remove the whole Salty Dog politics bullshit. And just make it a generic mecha story about space monsters and how they have to use the Earth Engine to stop threats from entering the atmosphere. And get rid of Logicaru Logicaru, or have her do the math wrong and get blown the fuck out of orbit via Matt Damon in Interstellar.
>>
>>11755179
A quick Google search shows that it's the other way around: Neoteny is the retention of juvenile features in adult animals. Captain Earth probably got it the other way around: the Kiltgang view themselves as the "adults" who are functionally immortal and can utilize orgone, while Earthlings are the juveniles who don't have access to such abilities.

>A Neoteny is a juvenile that displays one or more properties usually reserved for an adult.
Neurofag here. This is backwards. Neoteny is delayed maturation, seen as retention of juvenile traits (large head-to-body ratio, delayed sexual maturation) in an adult. That is, the adult displays child-like traits which goes by the term paedomorphism and is hopefully the only time today I'll have to use that word.

This is particularly of interest in encephalization, or how a species increases its cranail capacity: by delaying the onset of a larger body frame, the cranial cavity to body ratio remains higher, allowing for significantly greater surface area (after infolding, since neuronal layers are static and adding more depth is not fruitful).

It was boring but comfy, with lots of cool shots of rockets and space and shit. Plus, it had a hopeful end. I once heard someone call it a mirror of Evangelion. Boy wants to pilot robot, father figure actually tries to stop him, even a single angel/kill-t-gang could destroy the Earth, etc.
>>
>>11755193
>Quite simply remove the whole Salty Dog politics bullshit
This. It was pointless and all they tried to do was capture Hana, multiple times. It got boring real fast.
>>
>>11755854
It being "anime" doesn't make it separate from other good things you're missing out on. It's just like not having seen a great work of art. Sure, you won't notice if you don't know, but it makes me feel bad for you that your life lacks that bit of greatness.
>>
>>11755580
Yeah, because the ending they wouldn't have heard anything about is totally the reason why people wouldn't be watching the show. While it is still airing. Before the ending exists. You are so smart.

My only guess is that it just wasn't marketed very well and the measured pace put off most of the few people who actually ended up trying it, because people have no patience. There was definitely something weird going on with how late into the season it started compared to everything else.
>>
I for one was shocked how grizzly M3 got in the end
>>
>>11757048
>because people have no patience.
Or the show took too fucking long to pick up and it's not worth the investment either. M3 like CE is under appreciated for a reason, both shows just sucked at drawing viewers into the world despite not being overly offensive or stupid. We may hate A/Z for good reason but it's appeal makes sense and it was able to capture viewers as fast as it lost them when it was shown that the people behind it had no idea what the fuck they were doing and was just going through a checklist of popular tropes to sell it by in comparison to CE which never went...ANYWHERE and just remained consistently mediocre and M3 which had a really bad start but got much better as it went on and then ended on a somber note where you can't even much recommend it as a whole.
>>
>>11757104

Id recommend it as a whole, I won't deny it was a slow build but it was dropping mysteries and elements of a larger plot super early

plus shit got weird fast

It was shit. The protagonists were dull and colourless. The antagonists were Team Rocket. The limp humour was cringeworthy. Most of the storylines were flat and uninteresting. It was filled to the brim with stupid terminology, and that's even by the standards already set by mecha and sci-fi in general. The mecha were OK but nothing special. The best thing about it was those awesome unnecessarily complicated transformation sequences.
>>
>>11757104
>investment
I'd call it a gamble. I literally found staring at my wall more enjoyable than to watch the first several eps of M3, and I am supposed to endure 4~5 more hrs of that so that I MAY OR MAY NOT enjoy the good parts of the show? How about I just drop the show that I have no obligations to continue watching?

Worst case scenario I miss out on a potentially good show that in all likely hood isn't gonna be a life changing experience. That and some random guy on the internet who takes his anime too seriously is gonna disapprove. Seems like the better option than to keep watching.
>>
>>11757315
>I literally found staring at my wall more enjoyable than to watch the first several eps of M3
I didn't quite feel that way, but I don't think I've ever felt the same way about an anime that I did about M3.

Every week, when a new episode came out, I was never really excited for it. It always took me a while to work up enough interest to even bother downloading it. But as soon as I started watching it, I would suddenly remember "oh yeah, this show is actually good." It felt like I had to rediscover the show every single week for months. And I still have no idea why.
>>
>>11757672
>>11757315

if you can really sit down and watch it at once it's a much better experience, it really has a lot of small things that make it interesting that you may forget between the weeks
>>
>>11750031
Captain Earth was shit. If anything is overrated considering it's a bones mecha anime that lowered their standards even more.
>>
I liked it. It was fun. Hana was cute.
>>
>>11757690
I did watch the several ep at once. After which I wanted to kill the entire cast, the writers, and the people who hyped it up. I tried to give it another chance, watch one more ep, and I started hating myself. That's when I just went fuck it and hit shift+delete.
>>
>>11756330
>unlikeable cast
Well, it takes a while for them to realise that they are being assholes and they have to change.
The only characters that was likeable from the start to the end was Iwato and Raika, unsurprisingly.
>>
>M3
Instead of waiting for the good parts to happen, why not apprecite everything else in the show while you watch? One thing they did great was the atmosphere, the setting was effectively end-of-the-world-is-here, and the backgrounds and such reflect that, the town near the area is deserted, there wasn't any people there that wasn't involved in the whole thing.
Another aspect I like is that the characters are fairly logical(and realistic), even the guy in charge of the whole thing went "This is horrible lets not risk the kids" at one point.
The message of the show, that's a good one, and its supported by the events in the show.
>>
>>11757855
>why not apprecite everything else in the show while you watch?
Because it's not particularly interesting
>>
>>11757883
To be honest, I was hooked onto the show after the first episode, I had questions regarding the mysteries and the characters, and the show answered them as it went on.
The tone shift halfway through was so smooth, watching the first episode after the last episode, they felt like different shows, the character development helped massively with that. The show takes unlikeable shits and brings them through lifechanging events, and they come out better people.

>>11757855

What is with this board? If it had aired in 2007 or something, everyone would have loved Captain Earth. But it's 2014 and every mecha anime is apparently "shit" and everyone's eager to jump over each other to talk about how much they hate everything.

>>
>>11759384
Captain Earth is a legitimately bad show. I can confidenly say this because I'm one of the few people on /m/ who actually liked Star Driver. Captain Earth has all of Star Driver's weaknesses with none of its strengths. It would be considered a bad show in 2007 or any other year for that matter because it's simply poorly made, with awful pacing, shit characters, and a story that has no idea where it wants to go. Star Driver is a show with plenty of style and almost no substance; Captain Earth is a show with no style or substance.
>>

> If it had aired in 2007 or something, everyone would have loved Captain Earth
Definitely not. If it had aired in 2007 absolutely no one would have watched it because 00 S1 aired that fall, and for a stretch of almost 2 years this board was 10 (and occasionally 15) straight pages of Gundam, followed by Macross, a bit of Soaring Cake Girl, and more Gundam.

>If it had aired in 2007 or something, everyone would have loved Captain Earth

But it is just... so boring. Either nothing happen or the most cliché stuffs happen most of the time.

>>11739926 has a OP with only a small bit more effort put in to it about the exact same show and has been going for two days more with people being pretty civil all around, more than likely for the simple reason that the OP didn't try and make the show sound like an underrated gem that /m/ was at fault for not appreciating but actually just talked about it instead. And got people talking in return, even though the majority opinion in the ensuing thread was that the show didn't bowl them over and could have been better.

Praising a show is inflammatory? Are you serious? Do you even realize how fucking much you're reading into it to get all that out of a two word post?
