I'll be honest, I was cringing the whole way through it. It is so vapid, so heavy-handed, and such a concentrated stream of transparent tropes, contrivances, and fanservice, with a bunch of Fukuda's leftovers from SEED mixed in. The good thing about Speculative Fiction is that you can easily externalize character beats . Like Zuko in ATLA or Luke in Star Wars or Peter in Spectacular Spider-Man. Having her skills at dragon saying grow with her new status quo, having her become jaded, confronting her with her own inner evil, her first rape, making her friends, loosing her friends, etc. Adds levity to the Gee Whiz robot stuff.

Since you're trying to determine the relationship between the setting and the character, let's go back to the show and begin from there.

To my knowledge, it's been established that the show tends toward constructivism, that a character is constructed by the society which she belongs to. During episode 2 it's stated by numerous other characters that if Ange is still a stubborn fool attached to her previous life, she won't last long there. Since her background seems to be important, it's to be expected that she'll deal with the royalty and her previous 'human' society sooner or later (unless they daringly want to make a deliberate plothole like all the bullshit with 3rd Galactic Empire in VVV). Yet, her stubbornness as to persist with the 'division' within herself will reinforce herself, interactively as a source for her willpower. This seems to be her path as a heroine.

It would be pretty boring if it turns out to be another UNDERSTANDING. Like, the magical kingdom got trashed by the drag-I mean DRAGONs, then the Normas become heroines, saving humans, then they fight side-by-side with the normal humans, etc. Like, the plot twist is that the reason 'normal humans' could use magic is because they use DRAGON not-Lavos corrupted energy source, and thus making DRAGON endlessly invade the kingdom, and this greed will bring about their downfall, turns out the robot is the salvation, this is the future of our times, etc.
