Actually, UESA was formed in AC133, some 40+ years before the Leo.

It doesn't have any hardpoints, except for a rarely seen shoulder attachment for the dobergun. All other weapons are hand-carried, The Leo command type has larger shoulder armor with beam cannons.

That's not saying much when there are no other mobile suits to compare with because no one else besides the Maganacs have MS. Maganac MS are easily superior to Leos. The Maganacs even held off a Virgo assault for a few hours, waiting for Quatre to come back and reclaim the rebuilt Sandrock.

Although that's really it. One got a GM in its sturmfaust splash-damage but it's hard to call it a kill.
The one that shot Alex down in the simulator doesn't exactly count but could be taken into account for its performance, I guess.

Can't say for 0083. I only remember a Dom taking out a gun battery in one of the battles.

Anything will lose to anything else when plot armor's involved. On the other hand, those Doms that assaulted the Torrington base had a field day.

Doms aren't that heavily armored. Yes, they're typically thought of as "heavy assault" MS, but that has to do more with their speed and armament than heavy armor.

The Dom series might be bulky, but that's actually because they just have more inner space to hold propellant. The Rick Dom and Rick Dom II are actually lighter than Zaku II F and F2 types going by net mass, suggesting that they -don't- have thicker armor, and that most of their gross mass is propellant.

I'd have to look it up again but I believe the reason the Doms were lighter was because they were designed specifically for terrestrial use, as opposed to the Zakus which were either directly ported from space, or hastily covered for land type combat by removing unnecessary verniers. Weight was never a major factor for the Zaku in space because it was low gravity or Zero G combat, however on earth, that was a different matter, and even with heavier armor, the Dom would still need to be lighter to keep it from burning out. The Doms didn't need extra room for fuel since it was mainly powered by the three nuclear reactors it had. It was only the Rick Dom that they hollowed out to hold more propellent since the main advantage the Dom had on ground, was lost in space, so there was no reason to have the two extra reactors for its legs.

The space use Rick Dom is nearly 20 tons lighter at 43.8 tons. Supposedly the Dom was easily converted to work into space (on paper at least) by switching out the thermonuclear jets for rockets, which implies the Dom and Rick Dom bodies are more or less identical and that the Rick Dom's difference in mass are internal changes.

That said... the Dom Tropen and Dwadge are only 43-44 tons net mass, and those are Earth-use only. Either there's some kind of technical discrepancy.

Well, if we take the Gouf as a mobile suit designed specifically for land use instead of being hastily stripped down like the Zaku II J/JC types, it still doesn't save much weight at all. Zaku and Gouf are nearly the same in net mass.

Hand carried MS machine guns seem to be in a whole different class compared to head vulcans. Honestly, it's probably just not very consistent.

That's what I said, less elegantly though. Dom and Rick Dom look alive, minus the thrusters in feet and backpack and everything that the Dom used that wasn't useful in space was taken out. Which made a huge difference as opposed to the Zaku F and J conversion.

As for the Gouf, that was designed by Zeonic, while the Dom was from Zimmad, I'm making the assumption there were different design philosophies at play. As for the Tropen and Dwadge, there isn't a real rational explanation as to how how you can still keep the same fundamentals of the Dom, while shedding almost a third of the weight.

I was also just making the observation that the Dom had thicker armor than the Zaku. Another example would be in 08th MS Team where the Dom attacking Karen took a direct hit in the back from the Guntanks's cannons. Meanwhile the Guncannon's shot ripped right through a Zaku.

It's a pity that in both SEED and Destiny Athrun ditched a cool suit to go with a shittier one. I quite like the knight aesthetic of the Justice suits, but beyond that I don't really care for either. The same is true of upgrades all round in SEED/Destiny actually. Strike and Impulse are nicer suits than their upgrades too. Oh well.

Destiny is one of my all-time favorite Mobile Suits and I always use it in SRW as a result. But it really is overshadowed by so many other things once you bring the sidestories into the equation.

Everyone and their cat seems to get the Wings of Light, and the Destiny Impulse had everything the Destiny had, except double.

It wasn't complete anymore, since they stripped parts out of it to build the Double X. That's why the Double X could use the Satellite Cannon without a newtype inside it, it's Satellite Cannon system was already registered because it came out of Jamil's GX.

If you want Jamil to have a Satellite Cannon capable GX, it would make more sense to salvage the cannon from one of the G-Bits and put it on the X Divider rather than try to replace all the parts taken out of Jamil's GX to build the DX.

The Kampfer is a very lightweight suit. It's made for hit-and-run tactics, it's armor is shit. They even comment on this in the show. The Alex's weapons aren't particularly powerful, it's just highly responsive and agile (at least if it had a newtype pilot and not some dumb redheaded bitch who got the suit wrecked by a Zaku).

honestly expecting GMs to do anything other than die swiftly is kind of like betting against the Harlem Globe Trotters. the Kampfer didn't really seem like canon fodder. there's no evidence of them ever being mass produced and it looks sweet.

And it doesn't act like cannon fodder either. It takes out nearly an entire base on it's own. While the pilot is drunk no less. Just because it died to a single attack doesn't make it cannon fodder. Even then it got to do some damage to the enemy that defeated it and used up almost all of it's weapons during the attack while making the enemy pilot sweat.

Also, this thread isn't for rational thinking about how tiers of suits deserve such amounts of attention, so it's perfectly within thread limits to be upset that actual cannon fodder suits get treated like cannon fodder.

I"m not saying it's completely irrational and I do understand your pain. in Seed Astrays and Murasames were awesome looking cannon fodder but all you ever see of them is getting blown up.

There was already a niceguy Leo commander in episode 14 who defends the hidden Heavyarms until Trowa can come back. He did alright, but decided to sacrifice himself and was overwhelmed at the last moment.

He could have taken it and used it for himself, but he's a noble gentleman. He also takes down an Aries by punching it in the face.
