So, can we talk about the state of mecha in 2016?
The two big classic franchises have shown that they've no longer got the magic and needs to be retired. Where do we go from here? Just sit back every season and watch crappy original mecha series like Comet Lucifer, or Regalia?
Hell, when's the last time there was actually a good mecha series in the 2010s?

So /m/ i wanted to know some reasons for both people liking and disliking the show strike witches. Now personally i like the idea of the show, humans fighting aliens with magic machines in ww2. i just wanted to know what people thought about it.

Is it just me, or would the Warring Space States era of the UC 0120's been a far better backdrop for Gundam Thunderbolt's story than the OYW? The Moore Brotherhood damn near feels like a completely different faction from the Federation, albeit fighting for it, and the Living Dead Division seems to barely answer to Zeon, only doing so as needed.

The wreckage of Side 4 seems entirely useless from a strategic standpoint, yet the Moore Brotherhoods seems to have plenty of resources dedicated to taking it back (a Gundam, even,) which makes sense for them, but not the Feds themselves.

Having a functional, extremely mobile Full Armor Gundam during the OYW is awkward as hell no matter how hard of an Endless Waltz-esque makeover you give the One Year War. I actually think it would have worked better as an F90 or an off-shoot of it, and the Living Dead Division's equipment makes a lot more sense if they're late UC refits of old OYW MS used by one of the random factions that popped up during that time frame.

It also makes the idea of a large part of the Federation attempting to secede a lot more palatable, since during this time frame, the Earth Federation was heavily weakened from a political standpoint and the idea of a large group of territories organizing and leaving the EF isn't all that farfetched, not to mention it would have given the Atlus Gundam the leeway from a design standpoint to be as visually distinct as it needs to (just change the model number to a forgotten unit of the Formula series, like F93 or something.)

Thoughts?

Is there any instance, in military science fiction (or even regular science fiction), where a heavily fortified base is shown to be adequately prepared and ready to repel an attack? I'm trying hard to think of one, but even in instances where a base is successfully defended it's always because the attack would have worked but the MC came in at the last minute with the critical information and/or action that saved the base.

Even in instances where the base is kicking ass on screen, usually they're still really losing according to canon. Like at A Baoa Qu, Feds are getting killed way more often than zeeks are on-screen, but according to canon they won the battle decisively. I know it's to build tension and everything, but it's still weird.

Why do /m/ bases suck so much?

So these 3 Gundam TV series are mostly poorly received around here, which is sad because they happen to be the 3 most recent Gundam TV series.

Honestly these shield funnels don't have any jet or booster like any other funnel used in UC atttached to them, So how are they flying?

Would the Apsalus have actually been the super-weapon that it was intended to be if it had actually been deployed to the front lines, or would it have been doomed to be just another mobile armor for Amuro to destroy, which the Zeon was right to cancel production of? It certainly doesn't seem as impressive as the Elmeth, despite having triple the energy capacity and a cannon powerful enough to turn a mountain into glass.
