It just hit all the right notes.
Outstanding music
Awesome modern retro art style
Superior new VAs
Crazy, fun story
Great action in and out of the mecha
Never overstayed its welcome
That fucking narrator, man

Mecha be a decaying husk of an anime story element, but shows like this prove that there's still some life in the Emperor's corpse even still. I can't help but smile at almost every single scene, and I don't even think much of Mazinger otherwise.

I got into the series through hearing what shows derived from it.
From what I understand, Arc finished prematurely, author died a decade ago and no new works since Darkness was released outside SRW. Though I've only gotten as far as starting Hein and the what-ifs, but I completely enjoyed reading through the Ishikawa series and sort of saddened of what happened to him.

So what's your favourite series? Mine was honestly G or Go.

I know Age has its share of problems and hate, but ho about the good things? Post what you liked or enjoyed in that series.

I for one really liked the Diva as a whole, from design to concept and operational age. Also, as much as his character arc is debatable, it was pretty cool to see a regular pilot kicking ass by sheer rage and skill in a franchise plagued by special snowflake enhanced humans in Asemu

Dirty Vagans have the most unique enemy designs in Gundam up to date without them being over the top like the circus mechs in Crossbone.

Also love the sheer amount of wears the AGEs have and it's dissapointing they only used like 1/5 of them and never even bothered to mix and match them.
>>

Vagan designs were really nice.
OST was good.
AGE gundam had some great wears but it's a shame most of them stayed in the game only.

If this isn't just shitposting, the correct reply is you should watch at least a little bit to form your own opinion of it, but as far as mecha goes, the show doesn't really offer a lot of mecha content towards the end. It's mostly character drama after episode 14.

So there's this thing called the "Mazinger Bible" which is all but impossible to find now online ever since the crack down on file sharing websites in the early 2010s. Similarly all manga for various Mazinger and Getter Robo works have becoming equally scarce.

Additionally why can I find no information what-so-ever on the Mazinkaiser manga by Tatsuhiko Dan and only the one-shot Mazinkaiser manga that Go Nagai did. I can't even find dead file sharing links for it.

I mean all the stuff that matters of Getter Robo is still easily available. I think the only one that is difficult to find is the one where they made Getter into a shonenshit where they became bland 90s kids show characters, weren't a bunch of assholes, and they made Musashi into a female moe blob.

Extremely bad pacing and incredibly predictable and poor narrative formula, with the plot only actually starting when Haman enters.

Highlights from that interview and some personal insight into them:

>>“As to how the story of Dougram was made, during the 60s and 70s the security treaty between the U.S. and Japan was a very hot topic, especially with students. So there were lots of demonstrations and even riots. However, the older generation in Japanese society had no real issue with the treaty and were continuing their lives as normal. While students on the other hand would go to demonstrations and throw rocks. For me, I wasn’t involved with either group. I was a moderate, holding the middle ground. This was because my family was just my mother and I. My mother also worked at a labor union and as I child I grew up with that. In addition, inside the labor union I understood that there were many layers of management. It wasn’t a simple boss in charge and everyone else working, there was complexity. Though my mother was at the lower end. From that point of view, I didn’t agree with the communist approach. So I was more moderate. That’s why I wanted to show that kind of story in Dougram, where Crin’s father is part of the establishment and the guerrillas oppose that with Crin in the middle, as he doesn’t really know how the world works yet. As I was given a lot of freedom on the story, I put a lot of thought into it as well as my experiences."

>>“As for BattleTech and MechWarrior, I wasn’t really aware of the fact that they used the mecha designs and story setting from Dougram. Personally, I don’t tend to think about my own copyrights all that much. As long as people are happy with something I’ve made then that’s OK with me. Of course, if Sunrise finds legal problems with copyrights and asks for me to do something about it, then I will consider that. As an individual though, I don’t follow those things. In addition, I am not interested in gaming and don’t work in that either. Naturally, as a creator I am happy that people in gaming reference my work a lot. I really like that.”

>>"When I started on the second mecha series, VOTOMS, I started to think about what needed to be fixed after Dougram. The problem with Dougram was the mecha’s size. The Dougram was around 10 meters tall, which in animation can be depicted as being both small and large. So that wasn’t great in terms of the mecha’s sense of scale. The other major problem was the mecha’s speed at this size. Compared with Gundam, which features fights mostly set in space and looks fast, Dougram was entirely ground based. So battles were just running around on the ground and that lacked speed. I really wanted to do something about both the size of the mecha and its speed for the second series I did. From that point I thought about what would be a realistic size, so maybe 2 to around 5 meters. If it was 2 meters, maybe some small Japanese person could pilot it but it’s closer to a powered suit than a full on mecha. Also powered suits and powered armor were getting popular around that time too. Though, for me at that size, that wasn’t a mecha it was a powered suit, so 2 meters was too small. However, if it was 5 meters when drawn in the anime it won’t be that different between the 10 meter tall Dougram. People wouldn’t really notice the difference in terms of the animation. So I thought 4 meters was just right. At the same time, Okawara was thinking along the same lines and he too thought 4 meters was the smallest size where a mecha could still have a pilot and be a mecha. So we both agreed at that time that 4 meters was the right size for a realistic mecha."

And Asimov's work in general, please.

I've been rereading Foundation and Earth and I thought of something. It is possible that aliens do not exist in the Milky Way because the robots genocided them while the second wave of space colonization started? After all, neither the first nor the zeroth law of robotics do not apply to alien lifeforms. That would explain why the only sentient animals in the Milky Way are the humans and the solarians, who were like humans during the second wave of space colonization.

And another thing. If the reasoning behind Galaxia was the threat of an extragalaxial invasion, why nobody thinks of just building a robotic army with the three laws programmed, but able to kill aliens with ease? It seems a lot more simple than the whole Gaia thing, and not as creepy.

Seeing what happened with the spacers' worlds is cool, tho.

Is Full Metal Panic! any good in the mecha action department? I'm on episode 3 and it seems to be more of a awkward boy goes to high school slice of life story.

And I'm coming from watching some damn good Gundam series too, so I'm spoiled after watching all those epic battles in Unicorn, 08th MS Team, and F91.

I really hope this show doesn't become a big let down.

>Is Full Metal Panic! any good in the mecha action department?
Nope. The what little mecha action there is is not very exciting. Its a show you stay for the humor and characters instead of the action. It gets better once you move past the first season into Fumoffu and the Second Raid but they have even less mecha fights.

The bit in the desert had a decent fight iirc
