Oh man, I was just thinking about that a little while ago. A dude was mentioning how, of most Gundams, the Turn A had one of the most emphasized of that hairdo.
>>
Well, I'm not surprised if it was. The Gundam's face and rest of it's head looks like a samurai's helmet and crest; plus mampo/face mask.

You guys have threads for good Mecha games form time to time, but do you have any favorite Sentai or Toku games?

I was nuts about beat-'em-ups as a kid so I've always loved MMPR: The Movie for the Mega Drive/Genesis. It was pretty simple, but featured enough nods to various parts of the show and featured Megazord fights so I was happy.

On the SNES, MMPR: Fighting Edition is pretty rad too. Visually pleasing and plays well enough. The fighting game on the Mega Drive is alright too but a little more clunky. Though I generally prefer its character selection.

While it's a bit of a stretch, I kind of think of the Mega Man: Star Force series as being kinda Toku too considering it's got the transforming hero thing going on. Really enjoyable, but I'm not sure it counts.

Because then DP wouldn't stop doing crossovers and we'd end up with a DP Justice League and giant robots would be as convoluted as western comics.

how would you design an analog mech?

A diesel-powered, riveted-metal-plate armored, smoke-stacks pumping black smoke, four meter tall machine that is composed of a gear and piston anatomy and with no computers whatsoever, but still have it be Gundam-esque(pilot sits in cockpit and has foot pedals and levers and shit).

I was thinking of having a large analog computer in the back that operated off of program cards(like pic related) measuring around twenty-five to thirty centimeters in length and ten to thirteen centimeters in width. They would operate like old-timey,pre-digital computers.

I wonder because I got the idea for a fantasy story because I thought Escaflowne was cool and I like late 19th century industrial machines. I imagine it to look like a suit of plate armor with a head that looked like a frog mouth helmet that acted as the cockpit.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

Punch card operated mechs would be so hilariously inefficient due to the nuance and precise movement required for such a mech. You would need stacks of cards crowding the cockpit, the pilot would have to rummage through them for the one he needs at any given moment, and it would only have an extremely limited amount of input commands that it could manage. The reason Gundam and other highly advanced tech series can get away with simplistic control setups is because of macros and how simple inputs can basically be hotkeys to precision input.

It's a novel concept and I could imagine a scene where the MC would desperately be using a hole puncher attempting to come up with a new punch card that could get him out of a situation through a strange unpredicted tactic, but it would have to be a comedic series to work with such logic that's disconnected to reality. These mechs would be slow and horribly inefficient, at only 4 meters tall you legitimately could take these mechs out with hooks and chains and tripping them hoth style.
>>
First off it'll be huge, have you ever seen an analytical engine before? Far from volume efficient.

Next there'll be the regular precision checks because all the combat might knock some of the hardware out of place and that'd result in crippling calculation errors.

I'd probably try to move away from punch cards if only because they are a very shitty bottleneck but I didn't study hardware so I don't know how you'd do command inputs in a way that is easier than punch card chains.

...can you make an analog compiler? Christ I knew I should've paid attention to my courses.

Solbrain protects the people of Tokyo from high risk crimes and incidents, but what about the ordinary police officers who contribute to their communities? When one such ordinary officer, Sergeant Kageyama, refuses to fire his weapon at a suspect when his life is endangered, Solbrain discovers a surprising reason behind it.

Notes:
Veteran filler writer Takashi Yamada, writer for everything from Blue Noah to Robocon, to two of my all time favorites, Agedama and the Wondrous Crayon Kingdom, presents this very well written story of normal Japanese cops caught up in serious situations. In this story, I would say that Solbrain is actually passive observers. In this time of rampant police criticism, Japan still prides itself on small community precincts rather than large police stations, and even to this day it's not uncommon for communities to know their officers personally. It is something that used to exist elsewhere, but has become a relic of a simpler time. A very well written and emotional episode. Enjoy.

Well 0079 had a Canadian (Amuro) and a Mexican (Ryu Jose) along with Japanese in the cast, and several others were unlikely to be Japanese given their names and/or designs, like Bright and Sleggar. SDF had a fairly multi-cultural staff too, with Claudia LaSalle presumably being of French-African descent, Roy Focker (could be anything really, but unlikely to be Japanese), and Global among others all likely to not be Japanese. I'm trying to remember if the ethnicities of the cast of Vifam, Dougram etc. are ever specified, but a lot of them have casts that don't come across as Japanese either due to their names or their designs.

What does /m/ think of combiner-type mechs?

Don't really see them outside of the "super robot" subgenre -- even then it's usually some lame robot slotting into another slightly bigger robot.

They're great but it feels pointless when they eventually just start fights combining. What's the point of having the smaller robots then?
>>
>>14902546
good point

I always wished they would fight more as the dinosaurs and tank mode

atleast in a series like... Wild force? its been to long.. the modular pieces served purposes (Polar bear ice beam woot)

I fantasize about a Giant Graze that is made up of 5 Graze
