Is Go Nagai and his brothers anti-semite? That Hitler story was dope.
Is Go Nagai, dare I say it, /ourguy/?
>dat ending
What?
>>15785322
>Shitty ending
>In a Go Nagai manga that's not Devilman.
Did you make this thread just to state the obvious or what?
>>15785322
It's okay.
>>15785523
Hi. How you doing?
>>15785523
>shitty ending
You clearly didn't read it you retard
So I was wondering which is more canon, since certain things happen and don't happen in each version.
Eh, I'd say the movies are more canon since they effectively complete the series more than the actual tv show, which was cut short during its original run. Zeta is a different story since those movies drastically alter the timeline of events.
why do you care? it doesn't matter what is canon and what's not
>>15785318
It doesn't really matter. I'm just wondering what the more complete version would be I guess, and also if Tomino considers it to be closer to what it envisoned when writing it.
what is /m/s opinion on Gundam Wing?
>>15785277
Some like it, some dislike it. It's not popular enough at present to present controversy or bring it up in recent discussions, and so it's mostly left alone.
Ripe for the occasional shitpost, though.
>>15785277
Mechs: Check
Zechs: Check
Checks: Check
>>15785277
I dropped it around episode 35-ish because the pacing was so slow. Sort of regret it though as I gather it gets good at the end.
Why is mecha/space opera/sci-fi is so unpopular these days?
Last good thing we had was remake of Yamato, Thunderbolt and Origins(didn't watch yet, but heard good things).
>>15784988
It's a mixture of a new things, first what is popular changes over time. Also a lot of the greatest mecha/sci-fi/operas are "old" and people are really put off by that. They are used to the newer and more colorful style. There is a chance that they like those shows and actually like the style, but it's too foreign to them and are too afraid to just try it out. Same when it comes to mecha, they see the the mecha tag on some show and decide to not even try it. Even if the synopsis or cover or art of whatever seemed interesting to them before they saw that it's mecha.
>>15784988
More like why are they so overrated?
Most people on /m/ just idolise the space opera genre as if it's the only way to make mecha entertaining and good.
Space, mecha and politics make them feel they're watching giant robot shows not for kids, because oh wow, this show has POLITIKSSSSSSSS and it's set in space so it must be a serious show
As if the autistic interactions you find in Tomino anime could be anywhere close to merit being called an opera.
It almost feels like an insult to classic opera when people use that term to describe dumb giant robot cartoons set in space.
>>15785006
You know that space opera isn't limited to anime and it's used for anime that are similar to the stuff that was first labeled as space operas right? In fact the definition that Google gives is
>a novel, movie, or television program set in outer space, typically of a simplistic and melodramatic nature.
I'm curious and /m/ is my last hope, why do some shows slap in a "versus" in the title whenever they do a crossover? I've watched Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo and Great Mazinger vs Getter Robo and it ended up like that. Looked at the Mazinger Z vs Devilman trailer just now and it seems they team up as well.
>>15784850
Because that's what it means.
>>15784850
Nip kids want to see their favorite hero racing each other, not working with each other.
There is no honor when ganging on some individual.
When you ask "how does sentai or a team of 5 works?" they always count that as 1.
>>15785084
>>15784906
I'm a fucking retard and I forgot a whole sentence.
What I meant was, why do they slap in a "versus" when in the end they team up with each other and beat whatever foe they are faced with, rather than actually fighting each other.
Before you >actually watching gundam seed destiny
me I just want to say thatMy dick is very hard.
>>15784837
Mine too.
>>15784878
>Flirting with Athrun
>But Shinn is getting the view of the show
She knew what she was doing.
Just wondering, I've just found out that the Harlock manga was a seinen. Does this mean that the anime was aimed at adults? Just watched it recently and it rather seemed like a kid/young teen show to me. Was the adaptation just changed to fit a younger audience?
>>15784686
Seinen would be close to the western Young Adult, if I'm not mistaken, rather than adults
>>15784686
shounen vs seinen makes little difference when dealing with /m/-core titles
Ideon of all things was marketed as a kids' show and it had guro in the first episode.
>>15784686
I haven't seen the nime, but Harlock ang the gang do go around torching random Mazone with flamethrowers a few times in the manga.
Anyway Shounen and Seinen are pretty loose terms. There quite a few Seinen shows/manga that are just shounenshit with more gore n' tits and there's also Shonen stuff that deals with mature and complex themes some times.
in general, not just in battletech (armored core, mightgaine, gundam SEED, etc). acquiring a mech alone would be a big investment. stuff like maintenance, equipment, repair would eat away at your profits so it can't be that big as a source of livelihood..
and does one exactly decide on how much to pay for being a merc? i know doing the dangerous jobs = money but just how much money are we talking about here? it can't be ridiculously big (something like $$ 60 billion for just one guy) that you can probably do it yourself (unless you really want your hands clean).
>>15784454
I suppose it would depend on a setting's established economy, the availability of mineral resources, the availability of contract work, and how lenient the governing factions are towards independent businesses using giant robots to make money. Battletech spans hundreds of planets so materials are abundant and relatively cheap and there is always court intrigue using mercenary teams in proxy wars or as buffers to their own forces, other menial tasks like security postings, espionage, and convoy detail notwithstanding. Something as big and broad as that, there are plenty of work and space monies to go around.
A setting like with UC Gundam might not see much mercenary activity as the ruling body, the EFSF, may have a larger clamp on the region so there's not much need to spend money funding independent teams outside of the military as there are very few jobs that they themselves can't fill out. It would likely be extremely expensive to get a mercenary company off the ground in a setting like that, provided there's even jobs that can cover the costs.
>>15784454
It depends on your role in things.
An actual private army would have the bank to provide their own materiel (or maybe the materiel to justify making serious bank under contract), but that's from accruing funds over time or from some form of investment. A merc can easily just be under contract to provide skilled labor so as to not cost the client the cost of training their own people, they don't necessarily have to bring their own goods.
So the merc life can pay maybe as well as a trained pilot but without the obligations of a uniformed serviceman, or pay as well as however much a government allocates to fund their military might maybe. It largely depends on contract.
Depends on the setting
Macross has PMCs that are hired to reinforce the regular military for the colonies. They are large and rich enough to arm their pilots with good hardware and earn enough to pay their pilots much more than the military would pay their soldiers, but in return they do riskier things like scouting ahead of the colony fleet like Pixie squadron in Frontier and generally doing any risky shit
Since me trying to lie about being a newfag to /m/ would be obvious and serve only to potentially irritate I'll just be blunt.
I like big stompy mecha, mostly from video games, and am looking to get a good foundation on what anime to watch to broaden my horizons and indulge in my enjoyment of large robots.
I like military scifi with more of a realistic aesthetic. Not to say I don't like kung-fu robot fights, just prefer stuff that feels more like mobile weapons platforms and not space robot samurai.
You guys have a /m/ guide to mecha to start me on my path?
Sorry for obvious newfaggory. I shall resume lurking. Thank you for your time.
Watch VOTOMS and Armour Hunter Mellowlink.
Gasaraki has probably the most realistic mecha I can think of
Can we get a thread going for the mastaPIECE that was Giant Robo The Animation?
How amazing was that soundtrack
Honestly just about anything was good about this series, you can see why it took so long to make. While I do think it qualifies as an /m/ series it's arguably more of a superhero series than pure mecha.
>>15784193
>it's arguably more of a superhero series than pure mecha.
You know the whole point of giant robots in anime has been, for decades, to make a Japanese kind of superhero? Right?
>>15784193
Personally I don't see why there's such a big distinction between super robot and real robot. It's as if they're two camps when we all just love big metal things that punch shit.
Have you all seen Heavy Metal?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_KXgFpguE0
>>15784122
I have.
Fuck such a great movie.
Den of Earth best part, this is not up for debate.
>>15784122
are there any good HD encodes of it?
the one I saw clocked in at like, 800megs.
But yeah it's really great. Great score, great music, great stories, tons of great lines.
That robot person the :D ship takes up reminds me of Ideon era Tomino.
I first saw it on TNT a million years ago that summer they played Heavy Metal, Robot Carnival, D, and some other stuff.
A couple of years later I saw it a bunch when they did the theatrical revival before finally putting it out on VHS.
I forget, do any of the other segments feature characters that had long comic runs of their own, or just Captain Sternn?
Riddhe, d-don't let the uuuuhh darkness consume you riddhe *even so* there's uuuhh genuine human empathy at the heart of all humans. *Even so* there's kindness at the end of the rainbow *even so* uuuuh d-despair is bad.

Hey /m/ how is juspion?
I love metal heroes, and this is one That's subbed haven't gotten to yet

Out of the few metal heroes I've watched it is the best even if it lags at times.

It's great.
Seems to be good, here's something if you want to try it out:
