how does humanity manage to churn out so many colonies left and right? I mean these things are getting dropped, gassed and torn up by mecha combat all the goddam time.
I mean they have to be extremely expensive and time consuming to make, right?
i think they keep making it i mean they even have colonies on mars and jupiter
>>14979046
A single asteroid can contain more metal than has ever been mined in the history of humanity. Once you have the proper orbital infrastructure set up, it's not hard to imagine mass producing them. At least that was Gerald O'neal's plan.
They have like a couple hundred of them iirc and they were built over the course of a century. Remember, each side can have dozens of colonies in it.
Is Turn A Gundam the closest mecha has to offer as an art? The avant garde styling of both the characters and Syd Mead's Mobile Suits seems to be something that the mechanical designers and character designers of today seem to avoid entirely.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a case of it being something of a pinnacle in both Japanese art and Japanese story telling. The themes of post-humanism as well as strength through vanity seem so common and reoccurrent that I can't help but see it as a, not only a classic piece of mecha history, but as a piece of art to the world.
Why is it that NOTHING has come close to matching the quality of Turn A's art and story telling? Is the mediocrity of today's Japanese artist because of their blatant lack of skill, or is Tomino just among the greatest storytellers of the world?
>>14978932
I really like Turn A but...
How exactly does it investigate post-humanism? Seems like you're just throwing out a phrase.

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.
Start Date: 12/1/16
Due Date: 2/1/17
Submissions go to
[email protected]
Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

I haven't ever gotten any Kotobukiya kits and I was thinking about getting one or two but I'm unsure of their complexity and build quality.
The first one I was thinking about was the Formula Skell unit from Xenoblade Chronicles X. I wish they had some of the other heavier Skells like the Amdusias, Mastema or Inferno but it seems the Formula is the only one.
https://www.amazon.com/Xenoblade-Chronicles-Formula-Plastic-Model/dp/B01CV0E0X4
The second kit I was looking at was the Sahelanthropus from Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
https://www.amazon.com/METAL-GEAR-SOLID-PHANTOM-SAHELANTHROPUS/dp/B015X6WYU4
From the description of the Skell kit, it seems to be about midway between HG and MG in size once completed and it's at 1/48 scale.
The Sahelanthropus' description describes it as being at 1/100 scale so I assume it's similar to an MG in scale.
Another thing is that both kits have a transformation gimmick and I was wondering if that would lead to problems like parts breaking in the future.
Why didn't these two big toku shows become popular in the west and developed into long running and popular western adaptation like the sentai became power ranger ?
Is not like they didn't try it,
we have got ultraman G and Power, and we also had kamen rider dragon knight,
Why didn't they made more ?
>>14978644
They didn´t make more because they didn´t become popular.
For Kamen Rider it´s easy to get, Masked Rider came out in the shadow of Power Rangers, and had none of the charm or the effort put into it. Dragon Knight failed to appeal to the group of people it tried to(not to mention that as time passes it becomes harder to break into western pop culture).
Power Rangers itself had it hard at first, Saban had been trying for almost a decade to bring it to the West before he managed to make MMPR.
As for Ultraman I don´t know, but I guess the lack of popularity of the old entries set a bad precedent, which is why Saban had so many problems to bring sentai and rider. As for why Ultraman itself didn´t catch on, I guess people didn´t like it as much.
>>14978644
The initial attempt in the 90s was really fucking bad. Masked Rider is one of the absolute worst disasters to ever come from saban butchering a dub, seriously they took Kamen Rider Black and added Alf. They made further attempts about a decade or two later but just kept trying to copy power rangers due to their success, even though only select power ranger series were successes.
As for Ultraman I only loosely remember the dub, and I remember it did is own thing and actually not being bad just a little campy. The thing is there were two problems with it: one it was so campy most kids couldn't get into it two the time slot.
I remember really liking it when it aired back when I was like 8-9 years old, but I was a little weirdo who only had local television and grew up watching 60s-70s sitcoms (my favorite noncartoon show as a child was Sanford and Son). The camp factor since it was dubbed like an old Godzilla dub was really off-putting for most children, also I remember a lot of Tiga gets dark and they left that in making it alienate kids more. You combine this with the fact that, in the states at least, it aired on foxbox... at 6:30-7:00 on Sunday mornings. Most kids either were asleep or getting ready for church at the time, and if you woke up early enough to watch ALL shows like I did you would have to sit through Tokyo Mew Mew, Winx Club, Bratz, and the Cramp Twins before more popular shows like Ultimate Muscle, Sonic X, Kirby, or TMNT came on. I liked the show but hated what came on for 1-2 hours after so often I ended up sleeping in till those shows came on because i didn't want to watch certain shows.
To my knowledge that was the most accessible dub of Ultraman for most of the USA. This is why when people ask me why Ultraman didn't work in the US I say "the cramp twins."

Episode 34 - New Thread (ver 3.0)
Oh ffs
So wait, people actually didn't like IBO S1?
>>14978361
Too much filler. From ep 3 to 15 or something, barely anything happened. This season is slightly better. Also, I think pic related makes this season better for many people. I know it did for me.
>>14978364
my problem with season 1 was how repetitive the arcs got. Buildup/development -> combat -> mourning for the dead -> repeat. Everything else was easily the best gundam-ass-gundam show I've seen outside of unicorn. Honestly think it was on the level, if not better than 08th MS.
I've been finding pacing problems with S2 since everything is going super fast with like 5 concurrent factions all having their own stakes, but whatever.
What do you guys think about Susano Ou?
If I were you I'd delete this thread immediately.
No one wants to summon the Italian spic in here.
Never read it. I've heard it's odd, but entertaining. Would you say is it any good/worth a read?
>>14978289
>us everyone ready
>>14978324
It's interesting how there's a guy willing to watch /m/ around the clock ever vigilant for anything Go Nagai related so that he can complain about a spic that has yet to ever materialise despise constant warnings about him.
>No mecha show about individual humans gaining access to mechas and gradually becoming warlords out of the fear of letting the other ones make the world in their image, despite originally acting out of what they perceived as good.

>my rage
>>14977924
Wait that concept happens in almost all taniguchi guro shows.
>>14977924
Nah.
I'd rather see a spy show like some 60s movies, but set in a mecha universe like UC. So hero has to kidnap or kill scientists and officers, set the laboratories on fire, arrange bombings, with a main hero being like Stierlitz or Hans Kloss.

>>14977919
Casuals love Unicorn

>>14977919
I have 0 idea what is going on because i still dont know the difference between an OVA and a regular series, plus i havent even gotten that far because i thought watching NGE would be a good break from gundam
Now we have mahjong themed Getter Robo
Q. Who's the artist?
A. Google "Drill Jill"
>>14977843
>"Drill Jill"
That transexual hentai artist?
>>14977889
yup
So I started watching Ideon (cuz you guys)... I'm only on episode 11.... but like... I kept hearing youz guyz say it was like Getter/Evangelion, God-machine bent on destroying all existence, make-you-go-oh-shiiiiitttt! ... and so far its just been space opera...
At what episode does the whole part that makes me go "oh shiiiittt" start?
>>14977676
>At what episode does the whole part that makes me go "oh shiiiittt" start?
it's a little while
Ideon is more an SF story about first contact between space-faring civilizations
the unknowable horror awakens as a slow build background thing
>>14977700
Sorry for my impatience.... I just got done watching everything the guy who made "Dead Leaves" made.... and all that stuff is much more "whizz bang" in tempo....
I am already noticing the horror of war and inhumanity to fellow man aspects.... hints at the Ide and the God-robot.... I can see it building.
I just figured there was maybe a part where "the other shoe drops" (so to speak)
I'll stick with it.
>>14977714
I would say that it won't be until you reach the conclusion move will the Ideon really show itself as the monster that it is. But there will be a few notable instances allon the way that will hopefully leave your jaw dropped like It did mine.
