I just realized something really obvious that I've never seen brought up before:
Killy is a traditional FPS protag. That's the whole concept behind his character:
>he almost never talks
>his field of vision is filled with gauges, pop-up windows, crosshairs and stuff
>his primary means of solving problems is shooting at them
>he looks like an average dude
>he barely expresses any emotions (cause it's the 90s and facial animation in vidya sucks)
>he never runs out of stamina
>he has a health bar/regen system (body mass % restauration)
>his character boils down to completing his mission
>he levels up instead of smoothly getting better at stuff
The tagline of the manga is "adventurer Killy in the cyber-dungeon quest", but he really doesn't come off as an adventurer, he's just a player-character with almost no personality of his own. What little character arc he has consists in becoming less human and more focused on his mission. Which mostly involves walking a lot and shooting stuff.
It turns out to be way more compelling than it sounds at first.

Damn! Thats a neat interpretation OP. I always saw the Megastructure as similar to the levels of oldschool Quake/Unreal, miles and miles of machines and alien landscapes filled with factory-grown things that want to murder you.
Also Killys gun is just a miniature BFG9000 imo

Don't get excited just yet. It's only been written in manga form and the 'anime' is just clips of a production studio making test runs with the material that Nihei ultimately said no to. There's going to be a movie soon, so there's that.

No, SEED and Wing have legitimate problems that a nostalgia fag would never be able to see. SEED suffers from tryhard edginess, Jesus Yamato, and a shit load of flashbacks and reused animation. Wing is blatant fujoshit, MCs are boring and unlikeable, and the pacifist shit is reptitive. Personally I feel SEED is better than Wing and I'm from the West. But neither are as good as the UC and as for AUs, G Gundam will always be the best.
