BTW, what Eva clones have you seen that were better than Rah? I agree on all the complaints you listed and it STILL manages to suck less than Brain Powerd, as one example.

I found Brain Powerd far more enjoyable than Rahxephon, personally.
Also, Fafner, which I found better than NGE itself.
But then again, it's not like the "Eva clone" genre is particularly saturated, despite the idea some people have about every second mecha show being an eva knockoff.

I remember someone explained in a previous thread. There was some book about dolphins published in Japan in the early 90s with the stuff in those episodes. To demonstrate that newtypes weren't anything like some destined space-adapted evolution like Zeon and the SRA love to preach. It's also an example of UNDERSTANDING, as through the newtype dolphin Tiffa was able to learn that all it knew of humans were the pirates who harvested dolphin brains to power their radar systems, and Tiffa wanted to help absolve this hatred.

Have you tried VOTOMS already? If you haven't check it out. It isn't all that "realistic" especially towards the end, but it does have that gritty, military machine feel to its mechs, almost to the point where it feels like they're disposable. It even has a Vietnam with robots scenario as its second arc

I have, but it was always kind of hard to get into what with the rather dated animation. The rollerblading robots thing is neat, though, and I like the way that VOTOMs handles their mechs less as walking tanks and more as heavy shock troops or small special forces teams.

I'm also just really fond of UC-era grunt suit designs.

Why is Luke's face so much bigger than whoever else's face there? The size difference is ruining what would otherwise be a fairly simple but effective poster. I don't know if that's Rey or Kylo Ren on the right hand side, though I'd assume Rey.

Also, hearing a little Joker in Hamill's voice when he's saying "Breathe. Just Breathe. Now reach out." in the trailer, which is nice.

I'll let you in on a secret, when season 1 was airing almost everyone rooted against Celestial Being. They were pro flag fighters and The Russian Bear.

In Season 2 the main characters really are the heroes
In the movie it and ultimate ending to the 00 timeline, It's the exact opposite of grimdark. Image very related.

Gundams aren't necessarily "For aces among aces" either. Usually they're prototypes for testing out new stuff.

no, because it's not so much the machine, but the pilot in the machine. The Gundam became outdated before the war was over. Amuro was just that damn good to get so far with it.

The gundam could cost as much as it wants but if the pilot isn't good enough then it just becomes a money sink due to repair costs and god forbid the thing gets destroyed .
