Lack of ideas.

Most mecha shows are overglorified toy commercials.

Everything is inevitably (usually unfavorably) compared to Gundam/Eva/Gurren Lagann depending on the show's general look and tone.

Western audiences for some reason just can't suspend their disbelief for mecha of all things. To them, mecha are silly and unrealistic. Also there's an added unfavorable comparison to Transformers or Power Rangers.

If Crossbone is made canon then Flanders is 100% a newtype
