And this isn't me being a hipster I watched Sins and the OVA first but I found the original just handled everything better without going to far into the over gloominess Sins had. and the OVA was just dull

Glad to read that, so I take that I should watch the original? I was impressed with the intro, looked a bit ahead of its time (only 2 years after Kamen Rider for a quick comparison), but I thought it'd be kind of "goofy" since I believe it was aimed at kids?

I don't think that Sins was too gloom or dark 'n edgy since it was the premise from the start and handled it more or less fine for the most part. The fact that a lot of stuff is not explained and simply left to the watcher to make their owns assumptions kind of worked on its favor.

Pic semi-related: Vanquish was partially based on Casshern (no idea if the original or Sins -which I can see some superficial similarities with-).

It's not goofy but not as dark as Sins. Still, it has some really grim moments, so I'm surprised hearing it was aimed at kids.
But the original is neat Robot of the Week show. The animation is good but after a few episodes you'll realise that a lot of the fights are almost entirely made of stock footage. Ignore that and it's still quite good and kind of fun.

Banrise decided to make a rushed sequel to cash in on SEED's popularity in an attempt to make a new UC. However, SEED's popularity was based around it's characters and SEED-fans were not open to a series starring a new cast. As a result, ratings were noticeably lower during Destiny's broadcast.

A large section of the SEED fanbase also were teenage girls, and in the word's of Bandai's former President were more interested in buying CDs and DVDs over Gunpla. There was reports on many Japanese blogs about how the Destiny line wasn't selling as hot as the SEED line, with Bakuseed being more popular in some hobby shops.

The older Gundam fanbase had already written off the original SEED as childish, and were not happy about what Destiny ended up becoming. They wanted something more serious, Banrise promised them something more serious leading into the show, and in the end we got a hot mess. Director Fukuda was also becoming controversial because of his statements about how he wanted Gundam to be less serious and more Super Robotty.

Throw in whatever behind the scenes issues there were.

In the end, they try to change the course of the show in an attempt to save it, with Kira back in the spotlight. Ratings improved, but Bandai didn't want to touch the Cosmic Era anymore outside of the vaporware movie. The original still has it's fans, but the setting is nowhere near as milkable as UC.

Depends what I'm in the mood for.

Does it have to be a style? There are shows which have a fight every episode but still focus a ton on the relationships between the characters.

And whether or not character B would stand a chance against character A if he got serious

I prefer the second type, but the only good anime I can think of that really fits this seems to be Code Geass. I feel like there were breaks of like four episodes before a mech appeared on screen again.

It's a really, really meta way of saying "this show was made for the sake of entertainment".

The mystery of Paradigm city was never supposed to be made clear. It was meant to be like a serial show; there's mystery and an obvious background that's always hinted at, but it was never intended to be revealed or truly explained.

Big O wasn't written with an ending in mind, just the adventure. When the show was picked up for S2 on CN, they asked for an ending and a revelation to the mystery; they got one. One that was very direct, but an ending.

No, it's an environment created to facilitate a particular atmosphere and to act as a backdrop, hence the stage parts.

Various things, like "I am just a character in a show", or, "This show will recieve merchandising". Maybe I'm getting it wrong but the gist is there.
