How does one design robots that are visually appealing?
Is it just something only Japs and a few westerners are born with?
>>14181210
>he says as he posts a fuck ugly tubebot that originates from the seventies
>>14181210
I think an I eye for simplicity is important. All the most iconic robots I can think of off the top of my head have really simple designs (Mazinger, Getter, first Gundam) Usually only 3 main colors max on either a white or black base. Part of that was just that it was harder to make really detailed stuff on the animation budget of a lot of these shows. Meanwhile a lot of the shows that never took off have robots with lots of useless details, and random colors.
In the west (and Japan in recent years) we've made things "realistic" which is a better way of saying "add panel lines, different shades of the same color and weather it up." In my opinion, the best thing a robot design can be is simple.

***READ THE GUIDE***
For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, dont make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

All that Barbietoss *licks lips*.
What's with Jap animus and featuring literal children in the military?
>>14178464
them shota dollars
Because anime is for kids and kids relate to fellow kids better.
>>14178476
As a former child myself, this is bullshit. As a kid I usually hated kid appeal characters because they were grating and stupid, just like real children.
Mobile Armor thread!
Personally im a fan of the Apsalus III. Motherfucker blew up a mountain and shit.
I'm totally in love with the Asshimar, the colors, its flying saucer motif, the badass robot form.
It's perfect.
What good would armor be if you couldn't move in it?
Is Macross: Do You Remember Love, the most well animated mecha anime ever made?
I felt like it was comparable to gunbuster, but I think gunbuster has better detail.

What are some eastern spaceships that don't meet any of the following criteria?
>arbitrarily placed armor with exposed internals
>literally a boat with spaceship engines
>turrets that only turn horizontally
>two-pronged front end
>head and/or face
>huge glass canopy bridge
>open bridge
>superfluous panel lines
>rehash/homage/ripoff to western design (e.g. Star Wars, Star Trek, generic 70s rocket ships)

I've only seen Frontier and Delta, and one movie with the zentradi as bad guys so long ago I cannot remember.
I want to stop being a pleb, should I watch Macross in the order of release or chronological order?
release Order
Release order you stupid pleb. How is this not common sense?
>>14174313
Release order is best order. First there's SDF Macross. It's pretty well written with good characters, cool action scenes and mecha designs, and less emphasis on idols, but music is still a core theme. It's a classic. Then watch Do You Remember Love, it's a movie adaptation SDF, with georgeous animation. Then there's Plus, set thirty years after SDF. It's about the rivalry of two test pilots, and an idol AI. Also, god-tier animation and dogfights. Then you have Macross 7. It's about a rock band fighting aliens with the power of music. Also, the MC controls his Valkyrie woth his electric guitar, and that's awesome. Then you have Macross Zero, which is a prequel to SDF Macross. And then you have Frontier and Delta.
Don't you wish you were a kid watching anime in the 80's in Japan, /m/?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6kUh_Ott3U
Of course not. They didn't have the internet in the 80s, how would I shitpost?
I'd rather go with the 90's for the Brave series.
No because most 80s anime were incredibly shallow and toyetic. Put away your analog camera, shave your ironic mustache, and stop being a hipster, OP.
Is Fafner the closest mecha has to offer as an art? The otherworldly styling of both the characters and the Fafners seem to be something that the mechanical designers and character designers of today seem to avoid entirely.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is just a case of Fafner being something of a pinnacle in both Japanese art and story telling. The themes of post-humanism as well as strength through suffering seem so common and reoccurrent that I can't help but see it as a, not only a classic piece of mecha history, but as a piece of art to the world.
Why is it that NOTHING has come close to matching the quality of Fafner's visuals and story telling? Is the mediocrity of today's artist because of their blatant lack of skill, or is Tow Ubukata just among the greatest storytellers of the world?

KAKUGO SURU YO
Hey /m/, newfag here. im about 10 episodes in on mobile suit gundam, and I have one question that bothers the hell out of me. Do they ever explain how the federation was able to shit out the gundum, which seems to out preform anything the opposition seems to have in what seems to be so little time. I mean in the first episode an unskilled pilot was able to decimate 2 zakus, which nearly destroyed a section of a colony by themselves. How come zeon hasnt seemed to produced anything that comes near it, why is char so cool?
>>14183084
>why is char so cool?
Because his soul is not weighed down by gravity.
>>14183084
>Do they ever explain how the federation was able to shit out the gundum, which seems to out preform anything the opposition seems to have in what seems to be so little time
The Gundam uses reversed engineered Zeon tech and the feddies have a much larger manufacturing capabilities
>How come zeon hasnt seemed to produced anything that comes near it
Gundam is a very high performance one-off prototype that costs much, much more than any of Zeon's mass produced models. Luna Titanium is a luxury isn't viable for mass produced suits at the time.
>why is char so cool?
You have a thing for men in masks.
>>14183111
so just spoil this for me, does char get a gundam? or super zaku?
Episode soon, I guess.

I won't watch raw or shittily-dubbed anime so I've never seen one from the 60's
>>14159230
60's dubbing probably sounds better than modern dubs, to be honest
