I'm in the planning stages for a YA novel.
Should the protagonist have a non-human sidekick?
I was thinking something like Senketsu in Kill la Kill, or the motorcycle in Kino no Tabi. Can they contribute to the story or is it some odd form of wish-fulfillment? Is it mainly for comic relief?
What was the original logic of these things? Is it a Japanese thing, or are there Western examples of it? It feels as if the concept has been around forever.
I mean they could, technically, but the chances are astronomically small. Usually they're just unbearably annoying.
Here's an idea: Make the protagonist the non-human sidekick.

Often that's deliberate. It's a slightly cheap way to make the protagonist look more poised and impressive.

Unless the protagonist isn't all that much impressive. Make them a more human character
>lok up word
>defenition has anuther word I dont know
>lok up other word
>lern new word
>define [x]tion
>to [x]; the act of [x]ing
Just marathoned this play... Hardly understood a thing.
What can read to improve my understand of Shakespeare? I started reading Bloom's "Shakespeare: Invention of the Human" and it seems a little too lofty for my liking, and for someone who reads a lot his writing style is poorly read (glad I bought it used).

>writing style is poorly read
Faggot.

Read "Hamlet: Poem Unlimited" by Bloom. It's shorter and easier than "Shakespeare: Invention of the Human", and its more directly applicable to Hamlet.
Honestly, you should watch Hamlet first. There's no adaption that does it 100% justice, but if you're a recovering pleb its better to watch it the first time. I suggest Kenneth Branagh's version.
Then, the first time you read Hamlet, don't be afraid to check sparknotes if part of it is to confusing.
But for now I would just take a break. You'll get burnt out reading Hamlet two times in a row too close together.
Wait a few months or maybe a year, watch an adaptation, read "Hamlet: Poem Unlimited", and then reread it.

Watch an adaption then read the spark notes.
Then read the play carefully. Read the passages out loud and try and puzzle out what the characters are saying.
the story will take place in the short distance future and tech was banned across the world it will be a comedy and the title will be "Underground Tech" it's in new york and a group of people are selling black market computers radios ect. but it will be like drug where a they sell it by the kilo and other weights and it will be real cheesy like a gram of motherboard goes for 35$ thoughts we can get more in the story or we can branch off
Instead of the distant future you should set in in 1995 and explore the consequences up to 2017.
Woah, now that's A STORY.

Pro tip always have a consortium of shapeshifting inter-dimensional vampiric child molesters as your antagonists.
Paranoia and dread move books, have these guys moving whatever obtuse drug you've just invented.
Interesting perspectives for a short story?

What is your opinion on neologisms? I like to coin ones for (attempted) humorous effect in my shitty little writings. Is this a good idea, or is it just stupid?
>>9626465
Good idea if the context for the word is understood. Bad if you don't want to come across as a dfw fuccboi

I use em all the time. I'm a prissy bitch but you learn to love me honey

I've never read anything by him so it would be bad if this was the result
I want to start writing fiction. Are there any guides that give tips on writing fiction? I haven't written any kind of fiction since I was a little kid.
>>9626334
look at your friends for ideas for characthers, now I don't mean walk up to them and go "durr, how do I write" but rather just pay attention to some of the stuff they do, things they like and dislike and what makes you smile about them. I have written a few short stories based on the people I know and they all loved it, even my friend who hates reading.
another good thing is just..,experience stories (movies, books, shows, etc) and take away things that you like from them (like character traits, concepts and styles of writing). last thing I'd have to say is that if you want to publish something do something interesting with your book cover (this doesn't apply to what you are asking but I'm just gushing man) seriously, so many shitty books have made sales because of they have sick ass covers (cough...hunger games...cough) and that's about it from me, no more wisdom for you.

You're also not allowed to read The Three-Body Problem in Chinese
This rule applies to classical literature too, the only languages of the ancient world worth learning are koine and classical chink.
Why is there so much exceptional and revolutionary American literature, despite the fact that it is only 240 years old? What conditions brought this?
A landed gentry and stable middle class with time to write without having to go through the steps of feudalism or despotism
A belief now shaken in the American dream, baby!
Is this an effective rebuttal of evolution?
It probably just challenges Darwinian evolution which is really outdated. Someone should tell /pol/
