I'm a visual artist and never found anything more motivating than a)non-fiction/fiction about this profession;
plus b)aesthetic imagery-doused /lit/, would be more than appreciated
but nothing too philosophical on the nature of beauty and such (kant) as I really can't learn from those, it needs to be more like, "beautiful writing for beauty's sake" or "On being an artist/poet"
what the hell you made it this far, I have enjoyed Christian theology so much when the imagery is used for aesthetic's sake, so it doesn't have to be secular in nature. also I'm Russian, so you can include those as well.
anything similar to?:
Emerson - The Poet
Oscar Wilde- Dorian Grey + essays
Paradise Lost
I realise I'm probably asking a lot, but I'm a regular to /ic/ and actually wish I was more /lit/ for this board.
post your art
In a certain sense, the discovery of Capital by secularists is analogous to the discovery of the Holy Grail by the questing knights: an unthinkable eschatological event that brings about the end of the world conceptually, narratively, psychologically. The end of the world is no longer an imminent event but an immanent one; it is both always-already and always-going to be.
For the first time it is possible for a generation to imagine being smothered by the never-ending gifts that stream from the Horn of Plenty. The cure for the lack, for the missing object, is even more of a disaster for thought than the lack itself. An infinitely multiplying hyperabundance swallows us up, deranges thought, confounds ordination. There is nothing to make offerings or sacrifices to: we have to keep it all. We can't give it away, we are too clever, too sensitized to risk; perhaps this is the cruel and primitive revenge of unmannered and childlike gods for our having taught them the meaning of simulation.

Do you think the quality of the prose really matters in the end?
Yes, beauty, truth and goodness are all the same thing
>>9636159
Quality of prose can be compromised in certain cases. In Crime and Punishment the disorganization of character's voices and inclusion of little stories and episode create and effect of prose being unable to sustain itself under the heavy press of it's subject - a dialogue with devil.
Though cases like this are not often, so quality of prose is always very valuable, but you shouldn't be pedantic about it

Thoughts on Skulduggery Pleasant, liking it so far and see little of it online so wondering what people think.

So I started a Smashwords account so I could download pic related, should I use the site to self-publish my erotica while I'm at it, even though I have e-books on Amazon?
Goddammit bump.
What did you gain from rereading your favorite book?
For me, I picked up on way more of the humor in Moby-Dick
>stubb killing the first whale of the voyage with his pipe in his mouth the whole time
>the analogy of the gallows and pirates thinking they're above whalers but having no ground to stand that claim
>"it is the present Cachalot of the French, and the Pottsfich of the Germans, and the Macrocephalus of the Long Words"

I personally find him one of the most enjoyable authors out there even if the quality of his works are questionable

ITT : We share our pulp fiction ideas
Admit it, we all have them. Let's take a break from being pretentious faggots for a second and share out ideas for things like pulp novels and short stories.
hey /lit/, I was wondering if you guys could help me find the name of some short story or poem my grandma used to read to me as a child. the short story/poem was about a cowboy/gunslinger's ghost that sat at campfire with some living person and I believe he told the story of his death. anyways, I remember it rhyming and taking about 10-20 minutes to read aloud. the language reminded me of edgar allan poe, but it could have been one of his contemporaries. my sister suggested it might have been louis l'amour also, but I'm not so sure, seems a little too late for the type of language I remember. anyways thanks for any links or suggestions as to what you think it is, I'll read what you guys post. it's a story I used to ask my grandma to read me really frequently and since she's passed on I have a slim chance of finding it again.

I remember the title being something like "the ballad of ____", "the grave of _____", "the death of ____" where ___ is the person's name. keep in mind this is a memory from like 17 years ago.

I'm looking into louis l'amour now and it might have something to do with his Pike character. there's a short story called "a night at wagon camp" that looks familiar, but it doesn't have the same content. oh well, I'm heading for bed tonight, I appreciate any leads you guys have.
a single humble bump and plea for help
