From the distance, from the outside, we hear the same noise everywhere. How not to wish it, if it has become our favorite show, how not to participate in the unhappiness of others, how not to feel superior as a witness and inciter.
From the crystals, black mirrors, empty boxes, only tell us tragedies, tell me who I touch this time, how many glasses we drink today.

I'm annoyed with your adjectives. They're unnecessary and add nothing.

Quite recently I saw a short clip from what I assumed was soviet documentary (it's in russian, but I added an ability for community subs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IJkX06faJ8).
In this documentary they were conducting an experiment where they questioned if the decisions you make are really yours.
The experiment (which was dramatized and wasn't really scientific but does a good job of demonstrating the point) was performed on two people.
In the first part they show 1 guy 5 pictures of people and ask them if all of them are different (he says that all of them are). Then they proceed to put him in a room with a bunch of other people who then start pointing out similarities between people on 2 pictures2nd and 4th, which ultimately leads to the guy changing his opinion.
In the second part they show him two pyramids: one white, one black, and go down the couch asking what colour are the pyramids, and everyone except for our first guy says that they both are white. They then proceed to mock him, but he stand by his opinion explaining it by saying "it is obvious". But second guy says that both of them are indeed white.
I'm writing this because I too am struggling with the idea that I might be manipulated without realizing it.
Quite recently one russian populist politician started gaining a lot of attention among younger voters and the only thing that critics say about him is that that he is a populist (that he manipulates those voters for his own benefit). The fact that bothers me is that I can't disagree with any of the parties.
I've always heard that literature helps with critical thinking, and I came here to ask for your help and opinion on the matter.

I took a creative nonfiction course with him at Ponoma back in '94. We weren't allowed to show anyone our essays outside of the class for some reason. He seemed naturally intelligent, didnt need to look at any notes or textbooks or prepare for any lectures, he just knew his stuff and was super casual.
I saw him talking to a girl on campus one day. He uncharacteristically wore a Fila sweatsuit, the kind that looks like it's made from the same material as parachutes, and trainer sneakers with a matching bandana. That was his pussy hunt outfit apparently. Several times a week, same outfit, I'd see him hitting on women in it. I once saw him wearing it while carrying an identical outfit from the dry cleaners, he had like 4 sets of same Fila sweatsuit.
I asked him about it in class and he said we aren't allowed to discuss anything unrelated to class while inside class, the same way we can't show anyone outside of class our essays. A student called out "but Dostoevsky isn't in this class and last week you talked about replicating his black tea obsession to test its affects on your own writing". Wallace stared blankly at the student with dead eyes for 30 seconds in dead silence then said "you just got knocked down a full letter grade. Any other smart asses? Didn't think so." and pushed up his glasses with his index finger.
I remember telling myself this guy will either be super successful or kill himself.

I had a dream that I met DFW before he killed himself and I was trying to talk to him so that I could prevent it, but he was really impatient and uninterested with talking to me. I wanted to say something meaningful about his books, but I never read Infinite Jest or anything else. I only watched his water speech, but I couldn't even think to say something about that.
I was trying to remember the date that he killed himself so that I could tell him a few days earlier, "Hey, you're going to kill yourself on this day. I know you're planning to do it, so don't do it." But I never looked up the day he killed himself so I couldn't tell him.
I'm not sure what happened because I woke up. What does it mean?
