What's the Tale Of Your Tribe?
Tale of the Tribe was a book to be written.
According to the publisher's announcement, it was to cover topics such as the Internet, James Joyce and linguistics.
How you feel about the the future depends entirely on the context and coherence of the narratives that you subscribe to and make sense of the world and the extent to which future developments deliver the kind of world you expect to be living in. My advice would be to create your own transformative story and live it, embody it, as much as possible
Various great Enlightenment figures could be seen as lateral mediarists in that they wrote and copied ideas amongst the great thinkers of that era, a bit like the Internet
I am writing a story, what is something a female partner would write to a male partner on the back of a picture, that after they broke up, would fill the guy full of memories and ultimately sorrow? Any input is welcome.
"Remember when Tyrone took this?"

>How can consciousness be possible if there is no collective, only atomic agglomerations which form a "self"? Who receives this consciousness?
>[...] Suppose the following: A contraption is constructed on a wall. The maker puts a number of small metallic spheres on top of it, and they slide down the ramps. This contraption was built in a way that, depending on the amount of spheres put on it, a different answer will be given in the end. The maker puts exactly four spheres on top, which slide, rotate and jump, going through many obstacles, until the end, where a final sphere indicates at last what message is given.
>Could it be said that this contraption has qualia, uniquely for having input, processing and output? Wouldn't the answer be nothing more than a result of physical processes, simply action and reaction?
If consciousness is a mere illusion created by our brain to exteriorize ourselves from the ambient, what is our brain deceiving? Let's divide the brain into two parts: the main one, and the one responsible for the creation of consciousness, qualia. If the main part is responsible for everything, such as hunger, desire, thoughts and all the logical processing, therefore this part is led to be exteriorized from the ambient through the tricks of the second part. But we, while spirit, are the brain in its totality. Then, what is the second part deceiving? The atoms? The cells? Or the total functioning of the brain? But it is exactly this: input, processing and output. If the second part interferes in the processing, all that would change would be the output, since exteriorizing itself from the outside would change the output, but that is it. No one receives any consciousness.
>[...] Then, there are two possibilities: either qualia exists beyond the physical world (a soul), or our understanding of this subject is vague and incomplete. No matter what, there must be a change.
>How can consciousness be possible if there is no collective, only atomic agglomerations which form a "self"?
Consciousness precedes Phenomena, atoms.

Who are you quoting?

>>How can consciousness be possible if there is no collective, only atomic agglomerations which form a "self"? Who receives this consciousness?
this is retarded, as usual from normies.
consciousness of something happens before perception, but only people who do not love mental proliferation see this

>consciousness is a mere illusion created by our brain
materialists trying to understand what they experience top kek
Is there any way to make the case for rationality without begging the question?
Is there any way to assess the value of rational decision-making vs irrational decision making that doesn't rely on the outcome of said processes, ie. efficiency, ie. a rational construct?
>>9677731
sorry, which book is this?
>>9677737
/lit/ is - has always been - the de facto philosophy board, newfag
>>9677743
which author are you quoting?
Just starting Crime and Punishment
What am I in for? I haven't read Dostoyevsky before
A good book
shut up and read faggot
>>9677648
A wonderful book. One of his best. But personally Brothers K will always be my favorite. It may be because I started with that one. Honestly, the main character in Crime and Punishment is basically lit distilled. While some parts are cheesy it is an amazing read. My brother just started this for his AP class.

If you have a guilty mind (weak willed) it will resonate.
wtf i hate kant now.
What does it say about Kant?
books are fun to read
>>9677634
Postmodernism is just modernism in disguise which is just Hegel and Kant in disguise which is just Rousseau in disguise.
I jaye Rousseau.
Who doesn't want to stick their finger up Joyce's asshole?
And then stick that up my asshole?
>Fingerpuppet
Who are you kidding, that's going to be a cock-puppet.
>>9677646
And then stick you up my asshole? I'm OP by the way.
Anyone here ever realize how much of a major pseud they were and decide to reverse their path for the better? This is not a meme thread, I'm genuinely curious as this was a crisis I went through/am going through.
Me. I spent years memeing books on /lit/. In the past year or two I've actually read books, books I had opinions on. Someone called me out on my wiki knowledge and I felt ashamed. I started with the Greeks for a little bit and some HS stuff before trying to figure out what I like
>>9677579
hi, ontologicool
>>9677579
Yeah. The older you get the more you'll realize how much of a pseud you actually were/are. I've been told I'll feel the same about what I think of myself now as how I currently think about how I thought 10 years ago, but we'll see...
t. 33 year old
I'm planning to start with the Greeks and keep going chronologically. Should I go with ebooks or buy physical copies? I have no experience with ebooks and I haven't really bought books in years. Pic unrelated.
You won't do it.
>>9677550
I majored in English, graduated last year. Was forced to read book after book by minority/women authors and due to ignorance my few electives were taken in 20th century stuff. I need to re-educate myself
>>9677543
I don't give a shit what you do.
Need books to help me stay sober.
what from?
The Bible.
>>9677559
I have a drug problem in general. Whatever I can get my hands on.
Hi /lit/, /mu/ here. I have a question: who is the greatest lyricist? I'm putting my bet on Robert Hunter, of the Grateful Dead. Listen to Box of Rain and tell me I'm wrong.
Pink Floyd and Iron Maiden come to mind.
>t. Dad
>>9677515
/lit/ will and should respond with James Joyce.
idk maybe someone who won a nobel recently or something
Does anyone here actually read for FUN?
It seems like everyone's just posting like a bunch of redditors trying to impress everyone with the size of their dick- WAIT I'm sorry- I meant "booksize" because that's clearly the only defining factor of a novel's quality. That and the fact that it was published before 1969. These seem to be the only two measures anyone here recognizes a book as worth reading.
Just from the front page:
>someone mocking a Pulitzer winning book
>FOUR shitposts about philosphy
>shitposts about women literature
Fucking wow, and you people think you're not like reddit at all.
Is there any place out on the net that actually TALKS about books or is this nadir of humanity the best there is to offer?
r/books reads for fun m8
>>9677491
No. This is /lit/. We read for misery.
>>9677491
There's nothing wrong with Ellen Hillenbrand, anon.
That is, if you're a fag or a girl.
Any other STEM majors here want to be a writer? I love my major, math, but I don't think I can be the type of writer I want to be while continuing down this track since it takes up so much time. Anyone else have a similar dilemma or experience?
Comp sci bachelors here. Actually wrote a lot as a teen and got on the radio once though no one was listening idk what it was it was weird. I won some poetry contests too I think. I gave the whole thing up and just write code now but I wonder if I could go back, its not like I was ever really any good in my youth.
I keep a small mead notebook near my bed and just write down ideas. Ive had a few good ones I think but no real writing yet.
>>9677397
>muh dilemma
Where's the dilemma bitch? What fucking dilemma?
Don't create threads unless you have something to talk about regarding serious literature. This is not your blog about your life's 'dilemmas'
NOW FUCK OFF and kill yourself after that.
I still sometimes dream about writing fantasy/sf short stories on the side. But I just don't know how to come up with a decent story.

Can someone who has the new translation send some pics of the first couple of pages (of the actual book)? I want to compare it with the old translation but Amazon only has the authors introduction.
>>9677377
Bump
>>9677377
It's not like I like you or aa-anything, baka!
What do I need to read first to get the most out of this work of literature?
>>9677332
"Read" lots of old folk songs. Dylan makes a lot of allusions to those.
>>9677332
Start with Freewheelin' Bob Dylan
>>9677332
Moby Dick, the Odyssey, and whatever the other one was.
