Would you agree that empathy is an exercise?

Is reading an exercise in empathy?

Doing your homework, faggot?
>>
>>10018242
No. How does this even remotely seem like a homework question? This is a discussion board and I'm looking to discuss. I think empathy isn't contemplated enough.

If anyone's got good philosophical works on the subject please recommend.

Isn't it more self-insertion than empathy that appeals to readers?

So I joined some occult group on Facebook a while back and it had a lot of "rare"old PDF books (examples in the pic) and I feel as if they are either all written very vaguely, sounds like mumbo jumbo or expect you to know a lot from the start.

What I want to learn is.

What is real magic -Do the real "magicans" really think they are casting spells and summoning demons.Or is it more that it's a specific way to dril a thought into your own head so you "succeed" in some sort of way.
I've herd different people say both.
The latter more to do with the fact that the origins of magic come from language and language causes effects in the mind and it's went from there.

>How have People come to make up these spells and rituals or found out about them if they are real ?
how has someone discovered that in the bottom left pic ?
>origins of symbolism-I was reading last night about the hidden hand pose.
>meditating with a god or the tree of life as the focus. What will you achieve by doing this in the long run?

I keep going onto one thing and because their is a lot to digest It can me an hour to read 10 pages in some of these books because of how new or hard to read everything is.

Where should I start ?

Crowley, Evola

>Amazon exists
>rare books.

There's no such thing as magic. There is however, confirmation bias, echo-chambers, image-consciousness and wishful thinking.

People will often argue this thinking that not everything can be reduced to science. What they mean to say is that not everything can be explained by current scientific understanding. So if a phenomenon were in fact something "more" than what science has thusfar explained, scientists would gather like ants on a cookie looking for the career break that would come with explaining what it was, what it's made of, how it worked, and why we never noticed before.
That's why there is no such thing as magic, ghosts, psychic phenomena, or miracles. Welcome to adult life.
>>
>>10018224
I read Crowley is a load of shit.

>>10018227
I don't think it really is magic in a magical way.I do know what you are saying though.

I just want to know what these people are getting out of it.
What are the real benefits of "crushing bones mixing them with rosemary the burning them as a candle while facing east and shouting out a mantra 5x"

People pray in all religions and we could say the same about them. Why do they do it.Well most of them are just hoping they go to a better place.
These occultst people are supposedly gaining something before they die.
But what ?
If it's fake, what makes them Continue throughout the years with different spells ?

The lack of an unchanging essence does not imply absence of phenomena.

Since this is the second most popular book on this board, and also one of the most complex and layered works of literature of all time, I think it might be a good idea to put together a reading chart of books that should be read first in order to maximize understanding of its various references and parodies in the style of the "Start with the Greeks" chart.

I can put the chart together, but I'll need some help deciding which books would be most important for the chart. The Odyssey is an obvious starting point but after that I have no idea how to narrow it down.

Off the top of my head I'd say that one would have to be familiar with Homer, the other Greeks, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, Byron, Blake, Shakespeare, Aquinas, just about the entire western canon now that I think about it.

>"Our French Republic is no more than a great gullet swallowing the negroizing of the French at the command of the Jews. Our governors are a clique of sadistic yids and yellow-bellied masons sworn to swallow us up, to bastardize us further, to boil us down by all the grotesque, primitive means of inter-mixture, part negro, part yellow, part white, part red, part monkey, part Jewish, part everything."

>In an effort that was hushed up until today, Dahl’s world-renowned children’s books were heavily edited to remove content that expressed his contempt for women, blacks, the disabled, and other groups Dahl enjoyed marginalizing, often with over-the-top stereotypes.

>Even “Matilda,” that super-rare Dahl book with a heroic female lead, was actually about a “devilish little hussy,” until editor Stephen Roxburgh removed Dahl’s woman-hating content from the original manuscript. “The Witches” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” also received extreme makeovers to cut back on misogynist and racist content, respectively. Dahl once memorably called Cinderella a “dirty slut.”

It's like that somethingawful parody of Brian Jacques where his editor asked him to stop calling moles "niggers." What do you think the original manuscripts read like?

Nonfiction and fiction. I'm currently reading a book about the Vietnam war that's nonfiction but written in prose or whatever it's called and with no pictures. I don't really like the book a lot, although I like the idea of a book about war. The book is called Behind The Lines - Hanoi.

Are there any felon-turned-authors that were incarcerated for violent crimes? No thug-literature, please. I'm talking about someone who was intelligent and eloquent enough to write something that you would never expect out of someone with a criminal record. And the man (or woman) had to have done something like assault and battery or worse. Hard mode: It can't be a political crime, so no Nelson Mandela. Very Hard mode: Holding someone at gun-point or knife-point alone doesn't cut it, either.

Cognitive Intelligence is the measure of logical decision making.
Emotional Intelligence is the measure of both how emotions influence your decision making and how one can interpret another person's emotions.
Moral intelligence is a measure of how virtue influences your decision making through the assesment of one's empathy, conscience, temperance, kindness, respect and tolerance.

Studies have found that all of these "intelligences" exist, though only a pseud believes that any one of these is more important than another (though it could be argued that EQ is only as important as the others in regard to understanding other people's emotions.)
