Hey I recognize that guy. He frequents the local pub on Saturdays. Very protective about his private life.

What are your favorite blogs, essayists, journalists or writers whose content you will check out daily or weekly /lit/?

I check SlateStarCodex and Samzdat.com daily, though they don't update that frequently. I'm also a fan of The Last Psychiatrist, though he hasn't updated in years.

I used to check Nick Land's blog a lot but he's been pretty thin on actual content for awhile now and I'm tired of watching autistic graduate students and unironic Nazis bicker with each other in the comments. Moldbug's blog's okay for a read but he, too, delights in his edginess a little too much. I think he's right about the Puritan roots of contemporary leftism, though.

SSC and Samzdat are both highly critical of the establishment while also resisting the urge to wander into edgelord territory. Land and Moldbug both started out there and just kept on going.

When bored and energized.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

So in december my dad asked me to read the hitchikers guide. Before this I was catholic but not too devout. About halfway through the book I started to seiousley question god. By the end I was an athiest. No depression or religion switching involved, this book converted me.

Good job dad, that was the best book I will ever read. Maybe one of the best works of literature our species has ever produced.

I came out to my mother, who is apparantley an athiest. ALOT about her makes sense now. Her mother and my grandmother is an athiest too. We talked about the universe, mike pence and the sort. She thought my dad suggesting the guide was hilarious.

This is how elon musk became an athiest too apparantley.

If I ever become president I will be sworn in on the hitchikers guide to the galaxy. It encompasses my beliefs like a bible.

He's very good, but I don't see him being studied in the future. Maybe just in France, and even then not much.

I don't even know what gender my authors are.
I don't want to say something as obnoxious as "I don't see color" or some shit, but goddamn, books are really THE medium were gender and ethnicity don't matter. The quality of the work is literally in your hand to see. You could print a book without author or title and it wouldn't change my enjoyment (or lack thereof) of the book at all.

i probably have far better taste in female writers than that stupid middlebrow bitch in OPs pic but this post is total reductionist horseshit.

Anybody here know Danish? How different is the original vs translations?

I'm asking because I know intermediate level German and I've heard that Danish is a pretty similar language.

Lit help me out.

I really want to learn about serious literature that involves the supernatural heavily.

The ghotic is too much of a tease; let me know of pre 20th century literature that allows for the actual supernatural to play a big role.

I'd really love to learn of a Medieval work involving it.

I'm confused: are you looking for fiction or nonfiction?
>>
What are you expecting to read? Harry Potter's adventures fighting supernatural ghosts on the middle ages with deep philosophical discussions and well-constructed and deep characters?
>>
>>9723461
Oh fuck off there is no reason that in a time period obsessed with mystiscism and religiosity there couldn't be something serious involving spirits.

>check the YA best seller list
>protagonist or their friend has cancer or some kind of mental illness

Is this the key to profiting these days? Holy fuck

Decent I feel you're from the United States and don't have a grasp on South American history, especially w/r/t the rise of the global corporation and the oppression/objectification of the inhabitants of those countries for the sole purpose American prosperity.

Deeply profound if you're a Latin American, specifically Colombian, Honduran, or Costa Rican, with any knowledge of your history whatsoever.

Then, like every other Southern American Socialist proved himself to be a hypocrite by abandoning his socialist ravaged country to a richer Capitalist country.

At least he was a decent father and his kids inherited his fortune and now spent their days LARPing around Hollywood.

Yeah, I think it was the medieval law of cosa nostra. Pretty nasty stuff. Glad we've progressed to live in more enlightened times. Now it's only a sexual fetish, just the way it should be. ;)
