Literally all canonical women are goat (bar shelley)
Does anyone else not take Literary culture seriously at all? It seems to have devolved in to its own hideous subculture, distinct from regular people and, unlike specialised academia relating to STEM or business, devoid of any bullshit/rigour detector. Not that I'm saying it should have one, but we have reached a cul-de-sac in terms of fashion, a monopoly by leftists, idiots, bullshitters, nu males.
Why should I care about the ennui if Oxbridge / ivy league grads? Why am I abused for pointing out that publishers come from the same milieu of guardian / new Yorker writers who fill articles with horrific bullshit?
I don't see books as something that should contain "insights". I read them for enjoyment. Of course academics don't like to hear that as it doesn't facilitate the production of "literary critiques" aiming at citations.
I don't read for enjoyment at all, only for practicality. Art for artsake is useless and useless shit is cut out of plants by gardeners because it's trash.

Just got done reading this and despite the pseudiness and random organization I actually kinda enjoyed it. Are there any /lit/ recommended books that address Eastern mysticism from a Western perspective?
>>9764956
Just read the source works themselves. You don't want to fall down the rabbit hole of just reading Alan Watts without reading the actual Eastern Canons and then patting yourself on the back for being enlightened. Also, you need to meditate every day.
>>9764956
Literally FUCK ANYTHING that isn't a Western perspective
>>9764956
Herman Hesse is the perfect author for Eastern mysticism in the form of novels.
>Siddartha
>Demian
>Steppenwolf
>Journey To The East
>Narcissus And Goldmund
Joseph Campbell's comparative mythology series is so damn fun to read, especially the books about Eastern mysticism specifically.
>Myths of Light: Eastern Metaphors of the Eternal
>The Hero With A Thousand Faces
>Sake & Satori: Asian Journals — Japan
>Pathways to Bliss: Mythology and Personal Transformation
Pretty much everything Alan Watts as well.
>The Book On The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are
>Out Of Your Mind: Tricksters, Interdependence, and the Cosmic Game of Hide-and-Seek
>The Way Of Zen
>Beat Zen Square Zen and Zen
> The Wisdom of Insecurity: A Message for an Age of Anxiety
Just some ones I've been reading over the years, if anyone else has some good suggestions I'd like to know as well. What about Robert Pirsig's view upon Zen appealed to you OP?
What's your favorite Bunny Rogers poem /lit/?

YOU my man you're posting these pictures again. Bless you my man. Been a long time since last time.
Nothing I write is appreciated by my father and it's really really getting to me. All I want is for him to acknowledge my talent and enjoy reading my work, if only in parts. But he won't. Why are some people so resistant to the world of high-brow art and literary fiction in particular? My mummy likes everything I write but I know she's just being nice and supporting her "little writer" no matter what happens. But my dad just wearily promises he'll read the pages I give him then gives me some vague feedback every time I pester him for a reaction. I feel a LOT like Kafka in this sense, although he was 29 when he wrote the famous long letter to his father and I'm 36 but feel EXACTLY the same way. I just wish for once he would sit down with me and read through my work and give me an honest opinion about what he thought. I know that if I had a job, or a girlfriend or something that he would be WAY more interested in my writing, just like he's interested in my little brother's videogames (they play together even though my dad ALWAYS friggin loses) and it's only because my brother has a fiancee and a career in engineering. I feel like such an outcast in this family. Such a black sheep. I know that to some extent my genius and sensitivity will necessarily distance me from those who fail to perceive life as clearly as myself, but still, I lack the validation of the one person in this world whose opinion means the most.

Do i need some prerequisite in philosophy before reading Marx?
>inb4 dont read you cuck! etc /pol/-tier garbage
I just want to know my enemy
>>9764783
All leftist thought is utter shit and not based in science fact or logic.
Anyone who disagrees in the rest of this thread, and who claims Marx is worthwhile or has any insights, is a shill cuck who's denying the superiority of whiteness and masculinity
>>9764793
work smarter not harder goyim
It's better to read modern socialists or communists than to read Marx's works, not only are they dated, but they also contain some very stupid informations.
some of my stuff
You ego must be humongous in order to create a thread like that.

I see you went with that meme train that was here too the other day. Was it any good?
I want to write more but I have nohting to say.
Should I write genre fiction to get better at how writing works until my mind is sophiscated enough to produce something beyond superficial content?
take DPT (legal) and write about hyperspace
Just write in the first person. It's babby's first novel. You literally can't fuck it up, because you use your own voice. If you can't think of anything to write, make it semi biographical.

What is the single greatest work of atheist literature?
>>9764635
>atheist
>>9764635

what do people mean when they say think for yourself
it doesn't make sense
same as b urself
>>9764625
it means try the redpill, cuck
It's postmodern bullshit, you can't properly 'think for yourself' without reading other philosophers and commentators before, it would lead to wrong interpretations and, in extreme cases, stupid ideas ingrained in ones head like feminism. After reading a lot you can start thinking by yourself and making your own thoughts and opinions on various subjects. If you start 'thinking by yourself' before learning from others, you're bound to get a lot of things wrong.

I won't pretend the wording is perfectly clear, but people mean that you should make your own decisions about what you find convincing/true rather than just believing the explanations/facts of other people or authority figures.
Anyone ever use MIT OpenCourseWare for literature, creative writing or philosophy? What was your experience like?
I have never used it, therefore I have no experience to offer you.
MIT's OCW offers virtually no literature related courses that are actually in any kind of worthwhile form.
You're better off looking at one of the few OCW courses Yale offers on Literature, or buying/pirating TTC/TGC stuff.

What about for creative writing?

It's the most influential, not the greatest on it's own merit

>wait until late at night to read
>"okay, I have no more time, I'm gonna just do it"
>open book
>read about 4 pages before losing focus
>realize I didn't retain any of what I read
>"maybe an audiobook will be better?"
>start listening to audiobook
>get the urge to check twitter on my phone
>realize I didn't comprehend any of what I heard because I was reading twitter
>"okay, I'll start over, and this time I'll REALLY pay attention, no distractions!"
>fall asleep 10 minutes into it
>mfw
This is why I prefer to read in the early morning. I'm much less attentive at night.
