Any Pysche majors or mental health workers on /lit/?
My ex-wife attempted to commit suicide over the weekend and is in a nut house for the foreseeable future, I was on the emergency contact list still and they called me to tell me she is diagnosed as one of the highest levels of BPD the Dr.s have seen in a while.
I don't know what to think of this and would like to explore the world of BPD and similar Cluster B books.
Any recs?
In my professional opinion, your ex-wife is fucking tits-out nuts.
Take this opportunity to bang strange whores and feel glad you divorced the spaz.
That'll be $300.
Users and Abusers of Psychiatry. It goes into great detail how some psychiatrists make their patients worse off by treating the symptoms or side effects of a mental illness instead of whats causing the illness itself.
There's a tendency to treat mental illness as a completely physical problem, so it's easy for doctors to just throw some pills at the patient, especially after a psychotic break and then consider the problem fixed. Afterwards the patient is sent home and the underlying stress or problem that caused the issue in the first place is completely undealt with which is eventually just going to lead to further problems as that stress continues to build. No matter what your wife's psychiatrist says you should seek out some sort of talk therapy to complement her treatment.

You don't have to bump here. The board is slow and people generally use the catalog which is why day old threads are constantly resurrected.

read the relevant portions of the DSM-5
>he still reads books in the year 2017
LMAO. They are obsolete. Paper shouldn't even be made anymore.
>>9769921
All that reading and book worm here can't muster up a proper response. LOL
>>9769914
bud, the books i read are old enough to be your ancestors, you two dimensional faggot. the plots in my books are deeper than your mom's pussy, and the character development exists as a boundary between you and losing your virginity. You disgust me so much that there has already been a story written about you, but it was gleefully lost in the alexandrian fire, you were a has been and turned to ash before you were ever born, son. no trees were harmed in the making of this burn.
Fuck off and go play your video games little brother
> names the main character after Franz Kafka (intertextuality)
> has an opera scene within an operatic game (literary recursion and metatextuality)
> anachronistically have samurai next to war machines (fabulation)
> opera is the highest form of music (adorno)
> main enemy becomes a literal god proving that god doesn't exist (elie wiesel)
> humans breeding with magical creatures to make mixed children (frankfurt school)
is Final Fantasy VI the final work of postmodern art before the coming of 21st century masterful metamodernists such as Ben Lerner and Shia Lebeouf?
I can't think of a JRPG that doesn't do this, even Nier just randomly shits out quotes from famous philosophers like a 1st year student.
>>9770164
so what you're saying is that first year philosophy students should be playing Final Fantasy games instead of reading dead old white men?
>>9770168
Are you implying they already don't?
So I've read Down and Out by Orwell and loved it, and the Youth section of Childhood, Boyhood, and Youth by Tolstoy and loved that as well. What should I read next, /lit?
summer 2017 edition of The Oddville Press
But I'm being serious!
Other recent favorite is Despair by Nabokov, but I'd like to veer more towards that first-person young 20-something type authenticity
What do you think about this book? I enjoyed other works by Kundera but certainly I found this to be just over the top of pretentiousness
I honestly think the movie was a lot better. The book reads too much like some silly philosophical essay.
>>9769646
The title is infinitely better than the book.
>>9769646
I don't enjoy it.
It had provocative moments, but none of them ever coalesced into anything sublime.
Hello, /lit/, I'm new here.
A while ago I realized I'm not "smart but lazy xd" , I'm actually just stupid, ignorant and weak minded. People avoid me because I'm very boring and have no personality, but I want to build determination, emotional strength, intellectual capacity and improve overall. What do you suggest? What are some good self improvement books? A quick google search led me to pic related.
Self improvement books are a joke. If you really wsnt to improve get healthy, read philosophy and cut down all your toxic relations. Also, learn to think for yourself and be critical about it.
Feeling good: the new mood therapy by Dr Burns
Carl Jung: Modern Man in Search of a Soul
Hey /lit/, I really enjoyed the more realistic sci-fi combat in this book (most of it run by computers, tactical manouevers being based on lasers and nukes, taking only nanoseconds), always bothered me when battles in the far future would be decided by large conventional armies like in starship troopers.
Also enjoyed having one guy go through multiple iterations oh humanity. Any recommendations?

Read Burroughs
>>9769498
burroughs is overrated desu
>>9769503
Compared to Kerouac, Burroughs is a virtual unknown. I dare you to find me a High-school, with over 400 students, that doesn't teach Kerouac.
Also read more than just Naked Lunch.
What are some essential books about survivalism?

I have the SAS survival manual but it is kind of worthless if you don't practice

>Some Shakespeare's sonnets
>To the shadow of young girls in flower - Proust
>Swann's Way - Proust
Stopped reading for a some months, right when I was busy with The Guermantes Way, due to a depressive crisis. I look forward to start again from Swann's Way in one month or two since In Search Of Lost Time is, dare I say, the best stuff I've ever read.

What are some reactionary books I can read or at least check out?
I don't know about printed works but if the reaction you're looking for also coincides with the neo-reactionary movement this is a good place to start

Isn't "neo-reactionary" a bit of a oxymoron? Either way, I'll check it out.

Lovecraft
This is the greatest and most important organization of thought in the history of the human species.
Contents:
Preface- Understanding the necessity of working with subjectivity.
Introduction- The Question: Should I continue to exist? Basis of philosophical thought in creating an existence that allows humanity to thrive.
Section 1: Welcome to Not Nothing- The duality of human nature- rejection and destruction, or acceptance and building given the
inherent structure of existence which is- "We have free will, we are not all powerful, we are not all knowing, and we experience the
universe with a biological framework and consciousness."
Section 2: Destruction and Building- Cultivating power, facing powerlessness. Path of destruction involves a lack of self-control,
courage, wonder, and/or humor, with the person succumbing to powerlessness through either wrath, depression, madness, hedonism, or
ignorance due to the lack. Path of building involves self-control, courage, wonder, and a sense of humor.
Section 3: Power, Biology and Society- Maintaining a strong society (and individual) through a balancing of the pursuance of our
animalistic nature completely with a complete rejection, and a balancing of the desire to obtain all-power and the desire to relinquish
all power from oneself. A society comprised of men and women pursuing an animalistic/hedonistic sexual nature will crumble. The polar
nature of masculinity in men and femininity in women must be upheld.
Section 4: A World Completely Off the Mark- Application of the philosophy into the areas of Government, Politics, Economics,
Agriculture, Environment, Science, Crime and Punishment, Mental Illness, The Media/Entertainment/TV/Internet/Porn/Advertising, Lack of
Freedom/Technology/Overpopulation/Overcomplication/Globalism, and The Exploration of Outer Space. Focus is in creating a society in
which people feel the most power, connection with one another, and connection with the universe.
