didn't he set fire to his whole neighborhood killing hundreds?
I love this genre, historically accurate, but written as a novel, with a pinch of personification.
Anything by Max Gallo
Right now, reading pic related, and loving it, his other titles look nice, I'll probably follow up with that.
Anyone can recommend more books/authors like this? I'd like to find out more about the Persian empire especially.

Alt History > Historical NovelsI'm actually reading A Place of Greater Safety right now because I have an uncontrollable obsession with the Revolution of 89
If you like action, read Sharpe. You can jump right into it anywhere as each story is standalone.
Is Michel Houellebecq /ourguy/?

I've never been able to read Submission as an implicit endorsement for sharia law in the west simply because he tailors the novel to everyone who goes online to post tfw no gf with the arranged marriages
He's really more like sluthate's guy Tbh, 4chan is too bluepill to appreciate him.

I just can't take fatties seriously.
Are there any good books then? :P

They're okay I guess, I certainly admire the effort. I watched a number of his Heidegger videos. I had high hopes because he goes through the text (not line by line) as he lectures. Ultimately I wasn't really convinced he had the ability to paraphrase Heidegger's thought helpfully, just felt like he was reading it for you.
Also, I went through the comments to see if people had already asked certain questions I had, and he seems to get hostile pretty quick unless someone is simply saying "Wow, great vid! Thanks!"
He might be better in other areas.
Were they right, /lit/?
>Moby Dick
>Have you heard of Infinite Jest? It's really a seminal book, but sometimes women have a harder time getting it. That's just something I've observed. Anyway, speaking of seminal, Moby Dick is about a man's quest to destroy a sperm whale. Or, I can see how you might think it's about that. A lot of people don't appreciate the deep layers of metaphor in Moby Dick. Most of the metaphors are for penises.

I am an American and there are days when I yearn for the destruction of my country.
It's slowly dawning on me that nobody actually reads blogs. Most of what I read is blogs.

If I'm writing a sci-fi book in the 1st person present, how do I give the reader enough backstory to understand what is going on?
I mean, 1st person present protagonists typically don't see past the end of their noses, so how am I meant to foreshadow?
Scifi tends to have things that would baffle the reader if they're not hinted at and built up to, so foreshadowing is especially important here.

Could you rephrase that so I know what you're asking?

Piece of crap.

I think Harry Potter started the plague of young adult novels. Is J.K Rowling to blame?
Reminder that "The Casual Vacancy," Rowling's attempt to be a 'serious' novelist, didn't sell at all until she threw away her pseudonym and revealed she was the author.
This is all becoming a little sad. I guess I don't blame her for going back to the well that made her a billionaire, but why not try something new?
looking for novels that take place in a city like venice. think canals and shit. has to be an adventure book though, time period doesn't matter.. what do you recommend?
