Either a very short introduction to Derrida - https://www.amazon.com/Derrida-Short-Introduction-Simon-Glendinning/dp/019280345X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1501806951&sr=1-1&keywords=a+very+short+introduction+to+deconstruction or something like "Writing and Difference"

Read the bible, backwords
>>
>>9846095
Read philosophy and see if arguments depend on a certain binary that is hierarchically organised, and then check to see if there is any evidence in the text itself that reverses that hierarchy. Derrida used Rousseau as one example and it should be pretty easy to see his ideas of 'nature' and 'culture' are a little vague.

spanish or french?
Which will be more rewarding as a second language?
I'm leaning toward Spanish (for Borges mainly).

Spanish is garbage. Learn French
>>

French for the literature of past, Spanish for the literature of the future.

This is not a value statement, just a statement of fact and trend.

Pinche francés, está sobrevalorado. Aprende español.

First time posting, my apologies if I'm making terrible blunders in etiquette. I'm looking for a quote, from a book I read years ago. I do not know the quote directly, but it talking about artificial intelligence, simulating brains and a group of scientists who upload a copy of a chimp brain. When the program is started, all the program does is scream and the scientist congratulate each other on their progress in artificial brain work.

I know it's not much to go on, but challenge go.

Haha great post newfriend! I believe the quote you're looking for is from The Bell Curve by Charles A. Murray and Richard Herrnstein.

In regards to the discussion format of the so-called "Socratic Seminar": The Socratic Seminar is a cancer that was particularly prevalent for me during my time in high-school. For those of you who aren't aware of the format, it is essentially a discussion based upon a text where there is a group of participants who discuss said text based upon questions asked by the discussion leader. At this level of description, it sounds reasonable enough. The trouble, however, lies in the pure bastardization of Socrates' name - the method was based upon him solely due to his famous rhetorical style of question and answer - being that the method could not be further from his true style. Of course, as with all things in public education, the liberal influence crept into the seminars like black mold, recently to the point where a teacher forbid me from saying "I disagree," and "but," (as she instead favored a phrase such as "That's a good point, also..." even if my argument were in direct contrast to that of whom I was addressing. On the polar opposite end, Socrates was famous for, and prided himself upon, his ability to dismantle and disprove the arguments of those who deemed themselves wise, but who truly were not. He was not kind - honorable and good as he was - when it came to showing others that they were incorrect in their claims. Socrates is undoubtedly rolling in his grave to know that such a format of debate and discussion exists, let alone to know it is named after himself. This is not in fact a discussion, but rather a safe space in the form of a circle, ensuring that moronic opinions are held at the same value as those of true thought and wisdom, rather than raising powerful ideas to the regard in which they may be able to assist all people, as Socrates often spoke of being necessary.

fucking liberals, they've destroyed the white world

we must do something about women and nonwhites in the educational system
>>
I forgot to turn this into an actual discussion thread, ironically enough. Have any of you ever had fruitful discussion through the use of this format? Can public schooling be saved? Should philosophical classics like Plato's Five Dialogues join Common Core Curriculum? I personally believe that A Brief a History of Time should be required reading, and that philosophical classics serve a similar purpose for expansion of the mind's narrow scope.

With liberals and women? Never. They are too ideological and don't understand rationality and logic

Modern literature is written by and for faggots, numales, women and non whites. Who the fuck could take these people seriously? Why do you find this acceptable? I'd rather hand £5 to Jeff bezos than buy a book for £5 from modern publishers.

Lol at people who claim 19th century books are filled with insights. Newsflash: You'd dismiss serially written novels immediately if they were released today. You are a pseud.

Though I do think the 19th century people may have a point. Only a low test person could sit for 10 hours in a row to read JR or Gravity's rainbow. They wrote books you could read for twenty minutes at a time before continuing your day as a man of action or intellectual production. Twenty minutes on each work, once every one or two weeks. Not like after 1945 where every book is written as a death march.

If you read plays you are a pseudo intellectual who tries to efficiently gobble up pseud cred.

Post one book originally written in a language not of your own, that you wish you could read in its original prose with the temporary ability of having native level grasp of the language.

For me it would have to be Independent People, the supreme literary accomplishment of the Icelandic language, by Nobel Price laureate Halldór Laxness.

All the (((books))) I've come across spend a disproportionate amount of time on nignog or their perceived rights, cutting out the other 99% of american history that actually matters. Battles, what it's like to own/abuse your slaves, the legal system, prisons, or just cultural behaviors.

> Set in the year 2243, society is divided into two factions.
>There are the Insiders who live a utopian urban sprawl completely protected by a government organization known as the new world order. The insiders are monitored closely by the NWO and detered from commiting crimes of treason by threat of execution.
> There are also the outsiders who live without the help and support of the new world order, who consequently suffer from famine, disease and violent crime.
>There is a strong dichotomy as outsiders are not allowed inside, and insiders are not allowed outside.
>Act 1 - Patsy runs into trouble and requests help from Thomas. This leads to Thomas probing Patsy until he reveals that he is a smuggler, someone who takes Goods from the inside and delivers them to the outside.
>Eventually Patsy agrees to take Thomas with him on his next venture.
>The night arrives and Patsy reveals his method for escape. His father was also a smuggler in the past, and taught him the tricks the trade. They disable their tracking devices
>Act 2 - Thomas on the outside meets with the Prophet.
>The Prophet describes how the outsiders have learned to utilize a plant for mystical visions of nature, potentially even a vision of the divine itself.
>The main characters imbibe the drug and the foretold visions ensue. Visions of a mechnical clockwork, a network of souls, and symbolism of the Purusha Consciousness.
>Thomas sneeks Katrina into the inside.
>Patsy chases after them but is and executed for treason
>Thomas meets with the prophet again. Thomas reveals what he experienced on the drugs, and is told that this is a foreshadowing of his potential as the Messiah. He is told to take the drug again.
>Visionary sequence, leading to a vision of the Divine Oneness behind creation.
>Act 3 : Buddha and Mara appear symbolically out of the collective consciousness.
>Daniella gains the psychic power of clairvoyant telepathy and reveals the Illumanati's plot.
>The Illuminati have created biological nanotechnology that infiltrates the human brain and takes control of the body for the sake of ultimate control
>The NWO begins its assult on the outside
>Thomas mystical ability begins to accelerate while running from sentinels.
