I read this and I thought of /lit/:
>A woman allegedly held captive in a commune for 30 years was inspired to escape by the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter books, a court was told.
>She was beaten and threatened by her Maoist cult father but fought back against his control after reading the books, jurors heard.
>Aravindan Balakrishnan, 75, let her read the novels because he identified with the characters, it was claimed.
>He denies cruelty to a child under 16 and false imprisonment.

What the hell is that?
>>7409607
>LOTR and HP promote intractable behavior and "free thinking"
/lit/ is always right.
>>7409610
This is more common than you probably think.
If Christmas is celebrated in the Harry Potter universe, this means Christ must have existed as well. Does this mean Jesus Christ was actually just an ancient wizard (a mudblood maybe?), who went around performing magic in front of muggles? Did he use magic to stage his own death, and was Judas in on it and he split the 30 silver pieces with Jesus after he "died" and was "resurrected?"
>>7409600
It's almost like Harry is the second coming
Hogwarts doesn't have a chapel or anything of the like, Christmas is the only Christian holiday they celebrate. If Jesus had existed and simply been a wizard, wizards wouldn't find anything he did miraculous. Given that many non-Christians celebrate Christmas just for the hell of it, we can assume the wizards are doing the same.
>>7409625
There was plenty of hogwarts we didn't see, so it's still possible that there was a chapel. Or what if wizards don't revere him as the son of God, but instead as the first wizard, or the first publicly accepted wizard, or something along those lines. But to the rest of the world they appear to be worshiping him just as they do
>What I expected: A Chilean Pynchon wannabe
>What I got: A bunch of teenage sex scenes.
What does /lit/ think?
Did you only read the first section?

WHAT
Hey /lit/
I leave for a 28 hour drive in a few days and I think this is the best place to ask for any God Tier fiction audio books, bonus for fantasy, sci fi or horror
>>7409343
Start with the Greeks
>>7409348
>fiction audio books
>>7409343
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep
Catch 22
I think these two books were more enjoyable because I listened to them on audio book.

Somebody change Brian's face to Stirner.
>>7409276
Someone doesn't know anything about Stirner
What are some good books in defense of policing, that give a history of policing, or that have as the protagonist a police officer. Thanks.
Oh also include any memoirs of note
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Which text does the story of Perseus and Medusa come from?

Prove you're a patrician by summarizing this great American novel in 10 sentences or less. That is, if you even understood the book.

A seminal work revealing the sinister realities behind greed, wealth, and the American Dream.

Just read the book for your close. It's a quick read.
Has /lit/ ever done a secret santa book exchange?
>>7408818
that's some banal midwest pleb thing, right?
>>7408939
Since when is it a Midwest thing?
Not sure how you would describe it as banal either.
This could actually be a cool idea with the one rule being that nobody gives a book/author in the top 100.
>none of the authors in this list past the 9th grade mark
Whomever made this list seriously needs to kill themselves.
source? where did they get these figures? probably asked Rowling and Clancy readers what they thought, and then graphed their answers.

/thread
Is there something similar to webcomics but for literature? I mean like serialized stories that have frequent updates (and aren't awful fanfiction).
If so where does it exist?
>>7408772
Dickens, Dumas
Give me an example of a web comic you like.
>>7408785
I mean that is currently being serialized online, not stuff published a hundred years ago.
Should I get the Kindle for $49 or the Kindle Paperwhite for $99. The only difference I see is the built-in light. Is it worth it?
Any thoughts on the Kindle in general?
Built in light is worth it. I got fucking tricked.
It's worth it if you read a lot in bed and don't want to have to have a light on
By the way the Kindle Keyboard is great and you can get a used one for $34
