BANGING THE DRUM LIKE DUM DE DEE DEYY
I destroy everything I write. From deleting to burning I have prematurely killed all of my stories for the last two years. At least a hundred documents have been annihilated by me. I love to write but when I read it over it just always seems like pure shit. I can't even tell I'd I'm actually getting any better because no matter what I do it just seems like total atrocious god awful shit later.
>tfw never going to finish anything and be satisfied with it
>implying this isn't what writing is
welcome to hell family
>>7412593
People talk about having finished manuscripts here. I wish I could like my stuff enough to at least get to that point. The most depressing part is that I love my plots and ideas but hate what they turn into when I try to put them down. I have so much bullshit going on in my head that NEEDS to come out but I don't have the tools. Its really like having no mouth and needing to scream or needing to jerk off but having death grip syndrome. It makes me hate myself and question why I even have this ability to think up things which interest people (when I tell friends about anything I've tried to write they always seem really enticed by it. I know they might just be doing it to be nice but that's not the feeling I get there always like "how the fuck can you come up with all of that shit?")
I know its trivial but it really depresses me
>>7412625
I can relate. You either hone your craft to the point you can do your ideas justice or you give up. Nothing else to it man. That's life, what're you gonna do? You weren't born with the talent for white hot prose, neither was I, neither was 99% of this yahoo board. Write the best shit you can, that's all you can do

Hey /lit/, where were you when you realized the novel is dead?

Hey /lit/
I'm here for help to find a book that i read in high school, 10 years ago. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it, The only details that i can remember
1) the cover was red *i think*
2) it was a book about a country that was split up into sections and i think they were colour coded grey was right at the bottom where the slums etc. I'm sure the country was just a circle shape.
I know thats super vague but thats the only details i can remember i just remember enjoying it.
Thanks in advance.
>Pic no related, Random wallpaper.
>>7412224
Off the top of my head I think We (yevgeny zamyatin) took place in a circular city-state.
>>7412300
Thanks for the reply, but i don't think that's it!
The only thing i remember vividly is the fact that there were many zones grey slums. blue poor. orange middle class. etc etc.
Man this is doing my head in.
I guess it doesn't really matter. What does matter is Infinite Jest. Have you read Infinite Jest yet, OP?
Will i enjoy LoTR if i really like ASOIF? Which one is better?
Let's ignore the fact that LoTR came first, and is a major inspiration of almost EVERY fantasy series after it.
Do you know the shit JR Tolkien did to make Lord of the Rings? He made THE ELVISH FUCKING LANGUAGE
A NUANCED LANGUAGE
WITH FUCKING PARTIAL IMPERFECT TENSE
A GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT, COHERENT LANGUAGE
AND ON THE BASIS OF THAT LANGUAGE, AND SEVERAL OTHER FUCKING LANGUAGES, HE MADE THE HOBBIT
YES
HE WROTE THE LANGUAGE BEFORE THE FUCKING STORY
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Languages_constructed_by_J._R._R._Tolkien
BEFORE THE FUCKING PREQUEL STORY TO THE LORD OF THE RINGS, HE WROTE A LANGUAGE
HE WROTE A FUCKING GIGANTIC BACKSTORY, TOO
WITH GODS, AND DEMONS, AND ANGELS, AND SHIT THAT MAKES THE THEOGENY LOOK LIKE AMATEUR HOUR
AND ONLY THEN
ONLY AFTER CREATING SEVERAL FUCKING LANGUAGES
DID HE WRITE THE PREQUEL
YES
THE FUCKING PREQUEL
TO THE LORD OF THE RINGS
AND HERE YOU ARE
YOU FILTHY, FUCKING PLEBIAN
TRYING TO TELL ME THAT TENZIN INFO DUMPING A CORNY COMIC BOOK VILLAIN BACKSTORY
IS THE SAME CALIBER OF WRITING
AS THE MAN
WHO MADE
SEVERAL
FUCKING
LANGUAGES
KILL YOURSELF
SERIOUSLY
KILL YOUR FUCKING SELF
SOMEONE PUTS EFFORT INTO SOMETHING AND CREATES A MASTERPIECE, AND YOU SEE IT THE SAME AS THE SHIT A 9-5ER SPEWED OUT IN A WRITER'S ROOM

not very compelling

>I am seated in an office, surrounded by heads and bodies.
What did he mean by this?
>>7411587
He's a serial-killer who butchers his victims and keeps the remains in his office.
that he was seated in an office, surrounded by heads and bodies.
great thread.
>>7411587
He's at a medical professor's office who teaches skeletal anatomy.
What does contemporary avant-garde literature look like? People talk about post-modernism or 'post-post-modernism' (if they're trying to be '2deep4u') like it's some underground intellectual movement.. But as far as I can tell, anyone under the age of 25 has literally been completely saturated in a post-modern society since birth.
Music and art thrive creatively when put to the task of exploring the avant garde. Why should literature be any different? What are some examples of contemporary lit that completely goes against the grain?

I think you're spot on OP. born in 1990 here. I was the last of my friends to get a cell phone. That was freshman year. I still only have vague memories of life when all you knew was what your parents knew and you could win arguments by making shit up.
Monoglot here; what's the best second language for literature, and how would I go about learning it to a decent level?
French. Take classes, learn grammar, use Anki and read.
Latin

Hello lads, i'm trying to begin reading about existentialism, is Sartre a good place to start? if so; can you recommend me a book to start with?
Otherwise i'd appreciate suggestions

retarded
Well even in /TV land its bull. The best villian are villians who have an inexplicable and incomprehensible desire for evil. They corrupt those around them, and although they are easily identifiable as evil psychopaths, hold such demonic control over the masses that questioning the motives is pointless
>Hitler was reluctant and only did things because of the situation he found himself in
Really? He just 'found himself' chancellor of Germany? Just 'found himself' invading Poland and Anschlussing Austria?
Tell me about the book you're writing, Anon
its pretty sweet but i won't tell you because you will steal it

It's a series of different stories taking place in the same town that all revolve around the absurd and ridiculous legislation of the government, which, as it turns out, doesn't exist. All the laws come from nowhere other than the minds of the paranoid and accusatory citizens, who diffuse them in such a way that they change constantly, becoming more ridiculous or radical depending on the citizen. To give it some spice, I plan on making them spawn as some way to cope with the strange and supernatural events that occur in the town.
