Not Japanese, but Sarah by JT Leroy is about a crossdressing tween prostitute.
Good day, gentlemen. I as a Russian virgin of my own literature was reflecting about whether or not should I start off reading this book or any other Tolstoy's work in particular? For it seems to me that this book was likely made either for little girls or stupid homy maids. Nonetheless if it's not so, could you explain why is this considered to be a classic with such a suspicious title on it? I mean I'm told that what was written in the book is all about stupid love and freaking ho Anna Karenina herself and her further suicide (fuck yea, I wish all whores did it prospectively). Anyways, the main reason me being here is your personal and independent advise regarding the book.
fuck off you cunt

Why are you being so aggressive towards me, laddy?
She get's run over by a train.
My Dad asked for the martian for christmas. What's a better book similar to the martian i can get him instead?
>>7488411
He asked for the martian, get him the martian.
Don't be a pretentious faggot.
If you want to get him another book, fine, but at least get him what he asked for.
It's an alright book, ignore the /lit/ circlejerk. If he wants it give it to him.
>>7488411
Just get him what he bloody wants, smartass.
YFW you realize Gaddis and Gass posters are slowly overtaking the DFW and Pynchon posters
>>7488274
This is a good thing, anon.
Compare to this thread and see how much /lit/ has grown over the years: https://warosu.org/lit/thread/S502637

>All those retards criticizing Gaddis
Triggered.
This is the best Herman Hesse book, isn't it?
>>7488171
I know this is the only one I read and I didn't get it at all.
They say the book is good and influential and shit, but I just can't see it.
Please, explain, why is it considered even slightly good?
no. that would be the glass bead game.
narcissus and goldmund is also superior.
you can make an argument for journey to the east as well though it's not my personal preference.
>>7488194
it's good for getting plebs to reveal themselves, pleb
How come /lit/ never talks about magazines? Are there any /lit/ approved mags? (Indie or otherwise)
Are there any journalist here (or anyone aspiring to be one)?

It was a serious question.
I was studying Journalism at Harvard but got kicked out a couple of months before I graduated over some shit. Had to move in with my sister and her husband in the UK.
>mfw haven't even told our father yet
Are her books worth reading?
They might be OK but she didn't deserve the prize as she didn't actually write the books
>her

Yes
All the fucking charts in the sticky are 404'd.
>>7488106
Do you have the chart for "Doorstopper Literature"?
how much time in a library is considered weird or creepy?
Im in there like 3 days a week for 3 or 4 hours and its small so all the librarians can see me, theres like a kids room in there too so im scared that they are gunna think im some sort of child predator or something
Depends on what you do there.
Reading literature? Live there for all we care.
Writing? Have a novel next to your laptop. No one will judge you too harshly for it.
Jerking off? Try to do it in the 500s. No one will notice, or care.
Jerking off near the kids' section? Lord help you, you deserve to be judged.

>Reading literature? Live there for all we care.
I do this, im too scared to bring in my computer and work on other stuff because it might look bad

edit:
I actually read books not literature
>The casting of a black actress as Hermione, a role portrayed in the films by Emma Watson, has garnered the most attention, leading Rowling to tweet, “Canon: brown eyes, frizzy hair and very clever. White skin was never specified. Rowling loves black Hermione.”

There's already a thread about it.
Also, who the fuck cares.
>>7487956
Rowling is a single mother and a hack
She has indeed been blacked
WHITE SKIN IS IMPLIED, jesus
I'm not a huge fan of DFW but this movie was really damn good and now I wish I could have had a 3-hour conversation with him.
I can't decide if Ready Player One or The Martian is my #1 literature for 2015.
>>7487927
The forced relationship drama really killed it for me.
>he doesn't buy hardcovers for books with 500+ pages
how are you enjoying that cracked spine?
How dare you insult my choice of cover hardness
>>7487789
I'm enjoying it fine. What the fuck do I need an uncracked spine for?
>>7487789
I don't use books as a fashion accessory so it's fine with me.
Anybody else exprience this problem with hardcovers? How to fix this?
It's a feature.

Define postmodernism, /lit/
the media undermines the modernist project
What came after modernism.

How do you react to people who justify their shitty taste in literature with "it's subjective"?
