What is some essential reading on drug trade & war in the America?
Even articles published on Internet would be good.
I've already read Dark Alliance by Gary Webb after I saw Kill the Messenger.
It's just so fascinating how the cartel holds up the Mexico by its balls.
Sicario is fucking shit

well the balls and the mexico are the same thing at this the point

I tried searching Adlibris for 'Sicario is fucking shit' but it gave back nothing.

Any reading, even articles in the Internet, on how it came to that? I've read, like I said, Dark Alliance and it was fascinating yet it is curiously not talked much when people talk about drug war and trade.
What's the Star Wars of literature?
>don't say Lord of the Rings
But it is Lord Of The Fucking Rings...
>>7498038
Let me explain why I don't think so. Star Wars is a lot more focused on individual struggles between good and evil whereas LoTR is a much more clear physical struggle between good and evil characters. Lord of the Rings has a static plot (the quest to defeat Sauron) whereas Star Wars has a set of conflicts which exist ad-infinitum between the dark side and the light side. Philosophically they are miles apart.

Hey /lit/, foreignfag here. I'm looking for a word/phrase to describe this:
What does one call the state of being immersed in one's inner "world"? For example, autistic people are often immersed in their inner "world", not responding to their name and ignoring social solicitations.
Basically, something like daydreaming but where one is more detached from the outside world.
What would be a good word/phrase to describe this?
autism

rainman of hoffman
"brown study" but that often has melancholy connotations
or you could say someone is "miles away" or variations thereof: "sorry, i was a hundred miles away, could you repeat that?"
I am deeply in love for the first time in my life. What is some relevant /lit/-approved literature?
It's okay, anon. You'll get through it.
she'll just let you down
What would be more beneficial for a writer, reading a classic of their language or reading a "Writer's Advice" book?
>>7496814
You must read and write to get a good prose. Books of this kind are rarely useful and often reflect the author's own aesthetic rather a true, sincere style. In this case, since Stephen King is a terrible writer, I wouldn't even give it a try.
New readers often read an author for the first time with a unique style, then they go on to try and emulate it.
Before you ever think about developing a style, consider your own voice.
What are you trying to say?
Any average writer can copy some famous literary style and engage a reader.
.
Style is vastly overrated and always develops naturally. What is most important is finding your voice.
Example: When you start talking to someone, do you have a clear goal in mind?
>You're taking a shit and there's no toilet paper
>You get up, pinch your cheeks, hop to the door, crack it open, and shout to your gf "Get me some toilet paper!"
Whatever you say in that moment is your voice. It has a finality to it, a certainty and sureness and clarity. It rings true because it has to.
It won't matter if you shout the most lyrical or compelling words to her, if they don't convey your voice and meaning you're never getting that toilet paper.
Or if you have a sadistic bitch for a girlfriend, she will come and stick her finger deep inside your crack then wipe it on your face. In which case you should've structured and planned your shit ahead of time instead of relying on only your voice and the kindness of others.

I asked him about that but he wouldn't give me a straight answer.
WHY do people WRITE LIKE THIS while using Twitter? Is EMPHASIS in ALL caps that funny to normies? BECAUSE I'M TOTALLY NOT ACTING LIKE A MEGAPHONE TURD LOL
Fuck off back there faggot
Normies don't spend enough time communicating via the written word to have developed the ability to read or encode tone into it as subtly as the way you or I may do. The result is that charicature of tone through overuse of capital letters, emoticons, acronyms and punctuation marks.

Can we have a help thread?
Tell us what issues you're facing while writting your work, what can you do to make it better or any other concern you have regarding your own literature.
My problem: in my novel, the main character is supposed to read a notebook left by his art mentor that comitted suicide to him. This notebook is supposed to have writings that will have a major impact in the main character's life and behavior. It talks about what is art itself, what is an artist, what is the purpose of art, etc. That gives the main character a new view on his own art and his own life.
How can I write this? Obviously I can't write two books in one. How can I express how important the writings left by the deceased teacher are?
