Anybody read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson?
I've almost finished it and I can't say I'm enjoying it all that much. It's fast-paced but it reads like a nerdy wet dream, sort of like Ready Player One.
Any similar books to recommend of a superior quality?

It was of note of its time. Have you read Neuromancer?
It's fast paced until the painfully slow infodump in the library.
There are some good ideas but a lot of it is cringe-inducing nerd garbage.
Read Gibson and PKD instead.
zodiac is a much better book
>writing sequel book(first one has already been accepted, soon to be published)
>Wanting to branch out and write plays too
>Spent a day thinking of a nice idea, finally have it
>want to only focus on play but have to get book semi done(b4 editing)
>How do you guys focus on just one thing at a time? I have a comic series I've just started writing too(have some friends who are gunna do the artwork for it). which takes up time too. What do /lit/?
just enjoy it while it lasts

Its been like this for years. Its the main reason i never finished one work. If i continue on one thing for to long it just gets tedious and becomes a job. thats why i like doing multiple projects at once. But its just hard af to balance the time.
It's interesting that Hume shows there is no logical proofs for causation, but isn't it pretty logical to accept causation purely because it is the theory which best explains and predicts? Moreover, even Hume's argument about causation hardly impacts Leibniz's argument that everything which exists, has an explanation.

Hume means logical as in logic, you mean logical as in commonsensical.
>isn't it pretty logical to accept causation purely because it is the theory which best explains and predicts?
That is exactly what he says you idiot. Read Hume before talking about him.

correct

I mean logic as in scientific theory, like gravity and evolutiono.
What are the best resources for learning about Celtic mythology? I just realized I know almost nothing about it compared to Greek, Roman, Christian or Near-Eastern lore, which is embarrassing as I am of Celtic descent.

I actually meant writing but being published counts too
Most people aren't. That doesn't make it any less of a fulfilling hobby.
I mean most people aren't going to make it to the olympics, but that doesn't mean that sports aren't fun/rewarding

OP
So Eliezer Yudkowsky, spergiest hero of Less Wrong and leader of some panicky AI institute thing, has published a light novel.
The description:
>"My family name is Yugano. My given name is Yuuki. I have no redeeming qualities." So begins this light novel of a girl thoroughly corrupted by the Internet, and then summoned to another world
(pic related)
Has anyone read it yet? Worth shilling out a dollar? Any excerpts so we can make fun of it?

Fuck off.
>>7639519
I'm interested. Find those excerpts yourself, OP, and post here.
Fuck off Shlomo

I used spark notes to get by in high school, I am now studying math at university and I don't want to remain illiterate any longer. Should I just start with the recommended books or are those too advanced

Catch-22
Does anyone know anything about this dude or his work? I know he's a hard SF/fantasy writer and that this shit is really weird and expansive, but I can't find any of his shit in English. I've seen some people mention it in really, REALLY out-of-the-way forums, but there's no way of figuring out how they got ahold of it either.
I managed to find translations of the fucking Demonbane novels but there ain't shit about this guy out there.

it's probably fennel. does it smell like anise or must?
Good luck mate, make sure to make it count.
He's dead now.
What do you think of Fran Lebowitz?
I watched Scorsese documentary about her, Public Speaking, and she seems an interesting person to listen to. Does this translate well to her books?

What country is she talking about?
America? It's not a fucking democracy. It's a republic, and it's more fucking democratic than ever.

I headed every Tundra project after taking over the first one halfway through by publishing first. I don't think there's going to be another Tundra following the Tokyo/Kolsti combo.

Why should I care?
ITT /lit/ is a flawed board.
Well read, educated individuals are outnumbered by the younger generation who are eager to learn and explore literature but are faced with the reality of this incredibly fast paced culture/meme society those of us in the first world inhabit. Besides the fact that reading literature is an incredibly personal experience, the actual dissecting of themes, characters, motifs and plot takes a large amount of patience and study. Over and over again I read the same anons who complain that they can't find motivation to open a page from their pile of books or once they start they can't focus for more than 5 minutes.
What ends up happening is that /lit/ becomes a place we visit after putting down our books during a sporadic reading session only to get frustrated at the lack of original posts and ideas but still gratified enough due to the stimulation of person-to-person interaction and memes.
>>7635272
I actually read my books, anon, and I believe a lot of people here do too. But I don't have friends so I come here to pretend I have some kind of human interaction from time to time then I return to my reading session. We're sad people, I guess. But there's nothing we can do about it.
I read 2 hours every day before I go to sleep. You're right about internet being a distraction, tho. I usually hide my phone so I don't get tempted by the fast and cheap dopamine supply we all get from the web.

Talk for yourself, man. I do enjoy reading. I use this board to find interesting stuff to read, and it has helped me sometimes. Also, I come here to talk about some of the books I read when I have nobody to talk about them irl.
