Did Proust really jack off to rats killing each other/being stuck with pins?
Well anon, I don't think we have access to this kind of information
First time I hear about this.
It seems unlikely but it wouldn't surprise me. Some parts of La Recherche are surprisingly perverse.
>Proust would enter a brothel and ask the Madam if she had a hat pin and any rats. If the Madam informed him that she had both, or could obtain them, Proust would then request that the pin and vermin be sent up to his room. Once Proust was in his room and comfortable, a rat would be brought in by the Madam, in a makeshift cage, along with, preferably, a pearl-headed hair pin. Proust would then instruct the Madam to puncture the rat from its back through its belly with the hair pin. As the pin slowly went through the rat, Proust would masturbate; timing his ejaculation to occur at the exact moment the tip of the pin pierced the rat’s belly, so that its blood and his semen fell in time.
>it's his birthday
>no thread
>tfw only read authors who are still alive
>>7652687
the only day we absolutely -need- to have a joyce thread is handjob memorial day, aka bloomsday.
>>7652689

>reading J.G. Ballard story
>random homo shit out of nowhere
>"I celebrated in his tight buttocks a new stylised form of violence"

>>7651801
It says "short story" nowhere, you dyslexic sack of shit.
>Europeans don't care about Vollman, Gass, ,Pynchon, or McElroy.
Why?
>>7651643
Because europeans have taste, thats why.
>>7651643
The conservatives think they're too radical (or rather, don't think beyond the great realists).
The progressives think they're politically unsound and thus irrelevant.
How do we prove to Europeans we are cool with our dense post modern masterpieces?
Alright lit, let's see how many well accomplished (and possibly unduly ignored) non-meme authors we can name. I'll begin:
>Graham Greene
>>7650335
>initials are GG
>He is a white cracka and his name is a cracker too
>Greenetexting
This guy is a meme supreme, 0/10 OP may god have mercy on your soul
>>7650335
Accomplished in an artistic sense of course.
>>7650335
David Foster Wallace
>writes book called Infinite Jest
>becomes an eternal meme
>Infinite Jest
>Eternal Meme
He predicted his memehood, prove to me he isn't a genius
Disclaimer: I haven't actually read IJ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0U2zJOryHKQ
>infinite jest
>it's one long joke
>reading ij
>10pg subfootnote
well it was nice while it lasted
>implying literature isn't too far gone at this point
lmao that picture is autistic as fuck
>waaah people who I don't like do what I do but worse
Just ignore them senpai
The founders of literature are so disenfranchised with the state of their community they invested so much time into that they left altogether to start a new one?
>>7655893
go back to r9k please
>tfw I sat down today for 6 hours and wrote the best short story I've ever written
>>7655867
>tfw I've sat in my basement having wonderful day dreams for the past six years
>tfw I only started writing down all the thoughts in my head two days ago

Books similar to Confederacy of Dunces?
Anything with an anti-social, "autistic" protagonistwith a wicked sense of humour
Some I've read:
>A Long Evening of Goodbyes
>Welcome to the N.H.K.
>Don Quixote
>Notes from the Underground
>Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things
Oblomov.
Diary of a Superfluous Man.
not necessarily as funny or as interesting, but definitely one of the sources of the literary archetype. I know there are quite a few more, gimme time to think.
>>7655467
also, i wouldn't say Don Quixote was that type of character at all.
>>7655476
Don Quixote is the archetypal picaresque novel
Just a heads up if you use a newer kindle, are on firmware version 5.6.5 and want to jailbreak. Amazon is pushing their new software which adds some relatively minor new features and probably fixes some possible exploit possibilities. The author of the 5.6.5 jailbreak held it back until now to give Amazon time to fix their holes but will release it in the next couple of days on the mobileread forums. If you want to jailbreak DO NOT turn off airplane mode from now on.
Personally I look forward to finally being able to use Koreader on my pw2 again.
What is even the point of it?
>>7655398
It allows you to use custom reading and other software on your paperwhite, allowing you to use other formats than mobi and azw3 for example.
>>7655404
Is that it? Most ebooks I pirate come in those file formats anyways, and if they don't it takes a second of converting. Seems like an unneeded bother
Is writing short stories about paranormal considered clichéd ?
>>7655380
I do it all the time. Are they good enough for others to read? No.
Still, in my deepest fantasies I sometimes dream of publishing my book of short stories.
>>7655385
Shit I submitted one for college creative writing course rip
no it's lazy writing.
What fonts best fit different moods in books?
For instance, Blood Meridian's (it looks sort of like Georgia but I know it isn't) perfectly mirrors the bleak, biblical, 1800s feel.
How do I choose the greatest font?
>>7655356
Comic Sans because your work is a joke.
Times New Roman is the only viable choice.
>>7655377
I can water your vanilla ice cream down a bit if it's too intense for you
Is there a word that describes someone being cryptic but needlessly so or in an obnoxious and bullshit sort of way?
Obscurantist?
Abbotting.
"His entire budget speech was wall-to-wall Abbotting, but at least he didn't try to Howard us."
>>7655355
Obfuscate?
Am I the only one with an increasing anxiety caused by the fact that it is possible that you've already read what could be the best books you'll read in your life time?
>>7655113
It is possible that you've read the best books for people of your age, but ten years from now, the chances of you still admiring the same authors are very low.
>>7655122
Last line of this is moronic. Either phrase it better or be less wrong.
>>7655113
I don't feel anxiety at all
critique my oc poem /lit/ :)
>>7654872
that's like crispin glover in back to the future.
he's like, i never show anyone my writing. what if they didn't think it was any good. boy that crispin fucked up his career asking for too much money for part 2.
