At what point did storytelling shift from legend to fiction proper?
legend is always legend
multiple ansewrs kinda
appropriation of legend, rather than reenactment of legend, with classical athenian theatre
decline of need to appropriate legend / situate plots within familiar shared cultural myth setting happens in bits and bobs all over the place, even extremely ancient, but probably good case for it becoming mainstream in renaissance and reformation, and even then it's extremely common
modern narrative prose fiction proper around the same time, e.g. cervantes sometimes called first novel, maybe bit later, enlightenment, but also lots of arguments are made that the truly "modern" "psychological" "novel" is very late, 19th century even, often ascribed to victorian
benedict anderson's print culture creating shared cultural conception of a "space where stories can take place" similar to old legend, now it becomes familiar locale bounded by print culture and nation state units
also shift from mythic/legendary to (various definitions of) "secular" world-conception is prominent for a lot of tinkers
I believe you have an assumption built into that question, son.
Have you ever broken away from the iamb? Did it work?

Why the fuck does that shit even exist? What the fuck is wrong with humans?
>>7658594
Well it closely mimics normal speach so is a convenient formal meter to write in.
>>7658604
That's a bullshit explanation.
Why not just use normal speech if that's what you want
>slow reader
>want to read
>afraid of forgetting things and getting bored
Why am I retarded? Should I start taking notes?
There was a time when things were not like this.
take notes
reading is a like a muscle if you don't use it often it will degenerate

Just read one book at a time and read a chapter or two everyday at minimum, it's not a race. You only really start to forget what happens in books if you're reading a long as fuck one or you try to jump around multiple books
>>7658520
>or jump around multiple books
I really don't think I've ever experienced this problem. Is this a fresh board in joke I've missed?
I just finished pic related. I really liked it, but a little confused. I knew from the beginning thatRyuji was going to diebecause the back cover basically said as much, but I didn't expect the ending to be so strangely...bittersweet...as opposed to just plain sad. It was likeRyuji looked forward to death.
What was the significance of the gang? The chief was strangely reminiscent of /r9k/, in fact I kinda saw the whole group as one weird, isolated beta uprising that sought the strength they lacked and tried to achieve it by being absolute madmen.
Overall I just feel like Mishima didn't really make it clear where he stood, which bothers me a little. But I could be wrong, what did you guys think?
anybody?
It's been a while since I read it, but I get where you're coming from. It was kind of confusing, but from what I remember (I think), weren't the kids expecting him to be some manly role model but ended up being a bitch ass?
I'm sorry, I'm no help.

Don't feel bad, I just spent $150 on a bunch of books today after scoring big on eBay.
Wait a minute-
Nevermind, I just saw the books you got. Do feel bad.

the only booktervention i've heard of anyone having was when they didn't distribute the weight right and it caused/was going to cause structural damage
As a newshit who just started to read outside of classwork assignments pretty recently, how do I build up my vocabulary to easily read archaic old English? Does it come naturally by slowly reading older works? Because I eventually want to read stuff like Paradise Lost and the original Moby Dick
I only own like 10 books right now
God /lit/ is tanking lately.
Anyway: Yes. You need to read a lot more, Anon. And read those old, archaic texts slowly.
>Moby Dick
>Old English
>Even difficult to read
Dude, most of us read that in Elementary School.
Paradise Lost I could see, yes, but Moby Dick isn't difficult. Just keep reading and keep deciphering texts. Go slow if you need to, but never stop. I'd recommend starting with plain old Shakespeare. You could pretty easily interpret his works.

Holy hell you fucking uppity retards, the man is asking a rational question that all of us have faced at one stage before being so well-read.
Anon, if something is too difficult to read or you find you are struggling then just put the book down and read some less-difficult shit. That book will always be there for you when you need to go back, it won't run away. Take it slowly, if you read a book without understanding the words used you won't enjoy it and you'll force yourself into a reading slump and retreat to YA trash because it's easy and fun. Don't do the latter.

Just finished this. What did the ending mean? Is his steppenwolf persona dead? Is he done being depressive or does it suggest that he is going to get better? Discuss.
I thought he understood the meaning of the rooms and after he realizes he made up the characters he interacted with he is ready to continue a more positive lifestyle...or not?
The ending really fucking sucks. I am very sorry, I usually like Hesse somewhat, but the ending is literally just 'be yourself :)))'. Hesse is a fucking hack.

He realises that he's not only the wolf nor Henry, but he has the change to be a numver of versions of himself, and man can not be summarised by duality.

Looking for a writer to rewrite the script of my quest game to make it more Lovecraftian and dark. Half of you is writing your own stuff anyway, help your bro.

which hemingway book should i start with?
I started with For Whom the Bell Tolls, but I would recommend getting that with The Old Man and The Sea and reading that first.
You can start anywhere and go anywhere. I would recommend starting with his novels and of those the ones that were published in his lifetime. In my experience A Farewell to Arms is the worst received of his novels so maybe start somewhere else.
Well that was a fucking stupid waste of my time.
