Is /lit/ the right place for discussing erotic literature?
>>7820436
if is not 50 shades or other momcore soft porn, i dont see why not.
>>7820436
You can. But, if you're a hot young lady (18+), you have to post nudes of yourself every time you post. It's a rule around here. All the other /lit/ members will back me on this, so you can be assured that I'm telling you the truth.
I find it easier to be aroused by writing than by art or photos or video. Not sure why. There's just something about it.
list books, roll for them, read them.

Is it OK to enjoy manga? I recognize that most manga is "immature" in terms of storytelling. Most anime stories are highly clichéd, but I still enjoy a lot of mangas for some reason. It's a guilty pleasure to me, because I feel like I am engaging in a "dumb" activity and I feel stupid for appreciating it.
Shut the fuck up bitch. Make up your own fucking mind. I'm in academia and I just streamed One Punch Man while alt+tabbing between it and fart porn. People can be diverse. Faggot
Studies show that it's healthy for males to enjoy manga once a week to every three days as it decreases your chances of testicular cancer. Any more than that and it can begin to have a negative psychological impact, so beware.
get better taste in manga then
You folks sometimes use a word that means something along the lines of self improvement or completing an action in order to mentally/philosophically gain from it. Something to that effect but googling has been shit. Help please.

Catharsis?
askesis
>>7820141
No but thanks. I think it began with an A or an E but I'm not positive. Seemed to come up in threads regarding philosophy and self development.
Pic unrelated
Good day everyone, I've came to this board because I need a little help, I want to start a novel and I would appreciate if you guys told me if what I'm about to write has been done before. Thanks in advance.
>The plot goes about an adult male who is basically the hands and guns of an organization which goal is to "Vanish" important people of high interest for said organization. The guy always forgets everything about the casualties and works he has done when he sleeps as the Organization implanted a chip on his brain that erase every detail about past jobs, because they are marked as "Confidential". One day on one of those " Jobs" he is set to kill a woman, but every time he sees her, he forgets what he was about to do and everything related to the Organization or him. Not knowing who he is, stuff happens while his memory keeps "resetting" after every night but for some reason remembering the girl.
If it's a bit crazy for you guys or its not of your interest I will understand but please tell me if it has been done before.

sounds like a mix of dollhouse and Johnny Mnemonic. its not a new idea but its not done often, setting is stale and one of those types that in indie comics love but if you can make good characters that can easily be overlooked.
>>7820056
You can certainly try, but remain vigilant for the cliches and pitfalls.
Do you ever read while under the influence of alcohol? Are you able to?
I'm drunk right now because I lost at Counter-Strike and ripped my microphone in half. Now I can't play Counter-Strike, so I'm going to read Rilke instead. I'll let you nkow how it goes.
I'm actually better at focusing when I'm drunk.
Roger watesrs solo stuff is pretty alright actually
Jesus he likes to haer himself talk tohough. Kind of wannabe Leonard Cohen
>always too lazy to write anything, even though most people like my writing
>friend tells me a publishing company is organizing a contest of shorttales
>decide to try
>lazy, decide to write it later
>two months later
>friend reminds me
>three days for the last day
>no idea or anything written
>pull idea out of my ass and write 6 pages in two hours
>send
>win
I never wrote that fast and that much in such a small time. That was four months ago and I haven't written anything since it
I'll never publish a real book
What did ya win, anon?
>>7819901
Three copies of the book and they also send me something around 20% of the amount of books sold. Not much.
post the story
this is such a bad humble brag and I bet your writing is bad TOO
Hello /lit/. Recently, I've been tasked with writing a boisterous, prideful, "I do it better", asshole of a character. Sadly, I've succumbed to writer's block and have been unable to think of what he might say or act like. Any sort of help would be appreciated. Yours, anon.
Read the Iliad.
Read the last 3 books of the Aeneid.

Lord Henry in Dorain Gray
Hey, /lit/. I'm in a bit of a sci-fi mood lately. Specifically stories about Artificial Intelligence. I've read 2001, 2010, Blade Runner and almost every Isaac Asimov book there is (aside from Foundation).
I've played the "Alien: Isolation" game recently and the whole uncanny feeling portrayed by its characters, scenery and technology really interested me. Specially the "Working Joe" androids.
So, what I'm looking for now is a story about AI with a darker mood than Asimov's general writings. Perhaps a mood similar to Alien, the movie (novelization) and the game.

Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham
Or
Solaris by Stanislaw Lem
OR
Roderick At Random
>>7819802
Noice. I forgot about Roderick and Solaris.
Thanks, anon.
>>7819819
Solaris isn't really about AI, but it's still outstanding.
For OP request I recommend Destination: Void by frank Herbert.
Are there any good books about taking dmt that aren't pseudoscience new wave hippie bullshit?
Or at the very least good books by authors who have taken dmt?

not rly tbqh senpai.
just read mckenna and enjoy psychs for what they are, it's useless to delve into the subject too much.
if you want more concrete info about psychs I think Alexander shulgin has you covered
>working on writing a novel since new years
>vowed I wouldn't quit this time
>progress has slowed to a crawl
>outline without issue but become terrified at the thought of sitting back down and writing more even though what I've been writing has been actually good
>keep trying to tell myself it'll take as long as it takes
how are your projects going /lit/?
Go back and do some editing. That might help jumpstart you
>>7819662
I feel the exact same. Like...word for word. I've had this idea for about 2 months now, maybe playing with the idea even longer, but the only things I've gotten done are the outline and the first chapter, as well as some ideas for the next few chapters.
But yeah. Very slow crawl. Always tell myself the next day will be filled with writing but I usually just sit, get high, and think up new ideas without actually putting them to paper. I text the ideas to myself and they are generally good, ideas that I will incorporate, but over all little to no progress
>>7819662
Psst. Hey. Yeah, you. OP. Psst. Get off the internet and get back to writing. Quit being a lazy ass and power through this shit.
I know this is one of the better boards, and I'm sorry if I'm sliding off any better threads than this, but I'm looking for recommendations. I'm looking for non-fiction books that teach me how to become successful in life. Since there's a billion of those books out there, it's quite hard to know what is good at first glance. Since I know you guys actually read, I'd like to hear some recommendations.
Books that teach me the basics of making money, becoming successful and rich, etc.
>>7819611
I hear "How to make friends and influence people" is good
but if you want to be rich just become a doctor/dentist
>>7819611
>Books that teach me the basics of making money, becoming successful and rich, etc
Go to school, or community college or something. You won't find what you're looking for in books unless you want toget scammed.
>>7819619
>>7819633
Fair enough. I've read a few books about rhetorics that helped me in my daily life, especially since I'm a flaming autist. Are there any books that teach skills like that? Skills that are needed for succes? Obviously you can't get anywhere if you don't speak properly, unless you want to become an academician, but my family is old money and we've always been entrepreneurs. Gotta fit into the family crew you know.
Is this overrated? I'm at book V and its had some interesting parts but overrall I'm not sure what really makes it such a "classic"?
>>7819593
It's the most famous and powerful conversion story as well a first of its kind in literature.
>>7819618
>most famous and powerful conversion story
Why? Dude was in a cult, studied, repented, and became Christian. How is it a more powerful story than Paul or even just Tertullian/Justin Martyr? Just because this guy wrote a book about it? Or is something coming up that I haven't read yet?
you're probably not ready
Why must one imagine Sisyphus happy, /lit/?
Because he'll never have to read moronic questions on the internet.
>>7819546
Because the self-delusion of happiness is all we have in the bleak and painful world. If we commit to our own ordeal (Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill), then we have nothing to live for until we finally die and perish. The brief moments of happiness is all we have, so you better enjoy them, because we will be pushing boulders nonetheless.
>>7819546
One doesn't. One has many more options than Sisyphus' task, even metaphorically.
