They're both complete shit and Franzen's a hack. You'd honestly even be better off reading Tao Lin. That's how bad Franzen is.

I personally don't think so, but I seem to come across this opinion a fair bit here on /lit/...

overrated according to who?

If it means you aren't going to read any other Russian authors then sure
>>
Not really. One of the facts I dislike, though, is that some of his are made into his christian perspective, like "christianism saves you from nihilism" and that shit.

yes, but there are worse misinterpretations.

God is dead, God is dying... God is a principle of death, of nihilism. God is anti-life.
That's what he meant, if I recall correctly.

>>7849066

It goes against the notion of God existing, you're just retard kids overinterpreting.

My friend gave me The Martian and I liked it well enough. I thought it was good to see some hard SF get noticed for a change over the usual space operas. Andy Weir isn't a genius or anything but he told a good story. I even liked the movie even though I don't really care about Matt Damon.

What are some novels that deal with the topic of biological senescence/the fear of getting older? The more anxiety and telluric the better!

Bluebeard, the most underrated Vonnegut novel in my opinion. Breakfast of Champions, somewhat.

Vonnegut is simplistic but, in my opinion, good at storytelling and making characters.
