Just to confirm, this new disgusting format is an april fool's joke, correct?
Yes. It was initiated in the morning AM hours here on the east coast of the US. So I suppose it's going to end around that time too.

No Olga, it's here to stay.
I'm trying to incorporate horror into my writing, but I'm not sure if it's actually coming off that way. True enough I've never actually had my writing critiqued, so to me it just comes off as normal writing.
From what I've been doing, I try to convey a sense of hopelessness by both putting the character(s) in a hopeless or sudden and unexpected situation as well as quickening the pace of the reading so as to emphasize a more intense situation.
Any kind of advice you can provide that you feel would be helpful would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

1) how did this end up on /lit/?
2) 'no'
"lit" doesn't refer to being stoned, you goddamn slacker. fuck outta here.
>>7877431
If we bring this back to actual /lit/ what do you guys reckon the Synecdoche, New York of /lit/ is?
Hello.
What is /lit/ take on the Harry Potter series of book?
It's the only series of book I finished, I want to situate myself with your opinions.
Next I'm going to read Kafka metamorphosis.

Are there any good books for improving ones observational skills and deductive reasoning?
is this the wrong board for this sort of question?
>>7877061
He's looking for books dumbshit, of course it is.
And yeah op, there are. But really, nearly every book you encounter should improve the three skills you mention. Importantly, it's more about how you read a book. Are you actually paying attention? Are you actively listening and considering what you're reading as you're reading it? Are you looking at where what youre reading fits into your understanding of things? Can you stay focused for long periods of time? When you lose focus, can you force yourself to regain focus?
In my ten years experience of reading, long periods of active reading and listening will sharpen all areas of your attention. Once your ability to pay attention has increased, your ability to do stuff with what you are paying attention to will increase as well. This is only my experience, but I can tell you that after three consecutive months of attentively reading somewhat difficult for four hours a day, my mind is attentive, fast, and difficult to tire.
You mean inductive reasoning?
So was Dostoyevsky trolling with this one, or...?

I want to learm russian, do iam looking for russian lit with not so elaborate style of writting. Could /lit/ help me? Iam complete beggineer but i want to learn the language on my own like i did with english.
>>7876624
Mate, you didn't learn english.
But since you'll ignore that fact, i'll tell you how to learn russian by yourself.
I downloaded a book (in portuguese, so you'll have to find one in your language) teaching russian, and every day I dedicate a hour reading it and doing the exercises, and when i'm working I keep memorizing the words and grammar rules.
It's not really hard.
>>7876624
THe best book is pretty much agreed to be the New Penguin Russian Course. But that's for English speakers I guess
Personally I just read shit way above my actual level and eventually it starts to click
>>7876888
Thanks, i know my english is not that great but i can read the books iam interested in and that is all i need.
Do you remember the name of the book?
Any tips for cyrilic alphabet? Iam Czech so i dont think the grammar will be problem, slavic languages are very similar.

Thanks, im trying to do just that
Is journalism just prostitution? I looked at a random article from a book of George Orwell's collected writings and it was a 3 page article on Hitler in 1940. I'm not pol but it was an article before Hitler was synonymous with evil. It was an op-ed with shallow dilletantish opinions. Seeing an op-ed on what is now regarded by current journalists as synonymous with evil really highlighted the worthlessness of the article.
Also I looked at DFW's "a supposedly...". I had to stop reading after one page because of the ten million sweeping vague bites of wisdom (I.e. BS). " All cats represent a type of sadness." "Jelly is the post structuralism of desserts." Etc.
Christopher Hitchens's book of journalism was unreadable. He has read every book in existence and he's not afraid to name-drop ten times a sentence and talk about the Greeks, Romans, and Shakespeare for at least half of every article.

tee hee...Harriet doesn't realize lit is dead, yet? Shhhh! Nobody tell 'em.
Listen, man, people need to stop pretending like probably 85% of famous historical figures wouldn't be doing the same shit as the famous people today. Obviously, there are a few autists that would still be hermits or be so fucking autistic they can't put their names or faces out in public without going absolutely fucking batshit crazy and we wouldn't hear about until after they died, but the truth is, we've had those geniuses, too, and everything turned out fine.
Quit following this meme that you shouldn't be trying to get seen in any form of media that is willing to give you a platform. Whoever is going to publish your writing, go get it published.
In the past, only one book was written because it was expensive as fuck to print and once somebody said something in a book, they didn't want to go back and reeiterate what they were saying. Now, this shit is so disposable, people revisit the same ideas all the time because people just throw the stuff away. Write, collect certain things over time, and publish a collection. Shit's how it is. Ben Franklin got famous off of sweeping vague bites of wisdom.
All those ancient greek philosophers and enlightenment thinkers and 18th century revolutionaries and 19th century essayists and whoever else would be the bloggers and journalists of today. Shakespeare would be in Hollywood or finishing up his new Netflix original, Romeo & Juliet. Yada yada yada.
Of course, some would still be writing books, but by and large, they'd all be in a wide variety of mediums.
>>7876581
Nah, that can't be right
Hey guys, where's a good place to chat with other /lit/izens in real time? /lit/'s a little slow sometimes, don't you think? I'm looking for a literature chat room to discuss cordially, if it exists.

So, on a whim I started re-reading GR. I read up to part 3 in a day. It took me a month to read it the first time. I can't believe how much more enjoyable it is the second time. A lot of things still don't make sense but I didn't expect them to.
What are some of your favorite books to re-read anon?

Why do women have such shit taste in books?
90% of the Fantasy out their is utter shit but are rated 5 star on goodreads by females. Every fucking booktuber shits out the same recommendations. Name of the wind, rated highly on goodreads, is terrible and utterly boring.
I can't trust any fantasy book to not have an OP highly egotistic narcassist as its MC.
