I've realised that writing a book on my own twenty-something musings is utterly futile because no one gives a shit, and I write for my own pleasure, but I also want to write something that people will read.
So I thought, to get people to read your shit, it has to be on some interesting topic, and why not a spin-off on current events? Like the refugee crisis? And I don't mean in as some zombie invasion, but more a political thriller observing the stages of a society that breaks down and has is a grim parody of current issues, worse case scenario, etc.
Would it be good, /lit/, would it?
if you have to ask, probably not.
but good luck on your future career in masturbation.
it doesn't sound bad
almost any topic is good to write about if your writting skills are good enough
just try it and see where it takes you

Not saying I could pull it off, but if someone wrote the likes of World War Z and posted it on /lit/, everyone would say it was shit, cliched and a useless addition to an already saturated genre.
Which is all true, but people actually spend money on this shit, and I like writing.
/lit/ where is the line between being patrician and being a sell-out?
>there are people on this board who haven't read Don Quixote, Divine Comedy nor the Iliad

That's me! But I have read The Critique of Pure Reason.
I really detest the use of 'nor' here.
>>7977968
did you read them in their original languages?
Does anyone know of any books that incorporate lots of stuff about eyes and giving different looks? I know this might seem like a stupid question, but lately things like giving the "evil eye" have piqued my interest.
Bonus points if it's Russian literature.

Hey, /lit/. I'm illiterate, I can't read*.
Recommend me some books on tape that will help me transition form not being able to read to being able to read well and with understanding.
I've spent most of my life in the wilderness like an animal, I hope this will make me more human.

How to Read a Book
If this isn't bait (rec me a book on how to read a book) you'd need to attend a literacy course, someone has to teach you verbally.
Was the beat generation just a bunch of junkies or did they write anything of value?

Would you say that 4chan has a folk literary culture in the form of greentext stories? Is there any real-world counterpart to compare it to?
>>7977752
I would personally say most greentext stories are short-stories.
IIrc greentexts fit the definition for short stories I learned at school(germany)
i never trust green text stories cause it's usually some cunt screenshotting his own silly shit. sometimes it's fun but more than often it's lame.
Have you ever written something you thought was funny? If so, share :D. If not, what's the funniest thing you've read lately?

I have come across a dilemma in comparison of these two. How does Rawls' 'veil of ignorance' handle past injustices?
It pretty much doesn't IIRC, insofar as it has no impact on the present. It's not important that blacks were worse off 200 years ago, but that they're worse off today.
Also Rawls only intended his entire theory of justice to be applied at a national level.
>>7977638
What if we look at the Indian Removal Act in 1830.
Would you say that people under the veil of ignorance would not require any people of America today to pay repartitions to native Americans because they did not preform any injustices on them, but rather if any of the guilty parties (i.e. Andrew Jackson) were still alive, the society under the 'veil' would find them guilty for currently benefiting off of stolen property?
>>7977681
reparations, not repartitions lol
I wonder how many people on /lit/ even know there's a new book from our lord and savior.

Pick one /lit/
>Your family does a moderately painful death
>You are financially and time free to spend all your time to write and read for however long you wish without restraints inflicted upon you by society
>>7977566
So I have to pick whether I want my family to die or to be free forever?
I'd have to seriously hate my family to pick their death over paradise.
>>7977571
well i don't really like my family
>>7977566
This is a shitty choice. Shouldn't it be a "you get to be free BUT with a dead family" situation?
I'd do it, btw.
